Your birthplace jibe is ridiculous - unless we're saying now that somebody who happened to be born somewhere but never lived there or has any ties with the area is somehow going to be seen as a hometown hero there.

Should Calzaghe have fought abroad more? Depends. The same question could be asked at Jones or Mayweather. The days of people having to go to the US for big money fights are long gone - UK, Germany even Australia have hosted major big money title fights in the recent past. Who's to say it wouldn't have happened in the past anyway, if Hopkins hadn't bitched out of their agreement or Jones agreed to fight.

I would favor Calzaghe over Taylor...it would be much like the Lacy fight.

Calzaghe has been very protected,or should I say careful who he fights.
Great for him and his fans, bad for the rest and boxing.

Over here we see him and Hatton as good 'local' champs.

        Hes joking.

I can see no reason why Joe didnt come the the US to fight Jones or Hopkins.
        Its beyond me.
Roy had no issue fighting Joe, he had an issue with the smaller purse and fighting overseas.
I have seen zero evidence of Hopkins ever bitching out of a Calzaghe fight.

        Oh, and again.
There are more big money fights in the Us than in the rest of the world combined.
        Its just fact, man.

Roy Jones and Mayweather both hand picked opponents, look at how highly they're regarded.

Hopkins was offered 3 million to fight Joe, he turned that down for whatever reason.

                Not all true.

Jones still has Hopkins and Toney on his record, much great resume just with those two names than Joe. Joe couldn't even make a fight with Clinton Woods happen.

Mayweather has a better resume as well. You don't go around handpicking the names that are on his resume.

Mayweather can't get Hatton and Cotto into the ring, not his fault, and it is probably to late for it to happen now since Floyd looks to retire.

                  When was this?

was this before or after Hopkins received 10+ million for winning the OSCAR?
He made a lot of money for Tito before that.

Calzaghe has said that his fight with Manfredo will likely be his last on home-soil, so it does seem that he will be taking steps to remedy it soon.

Over here? Over where? The Americans on this forum at least do not consider Calzaghe a 'local' fighter. Maybe a few posters do, but they are just trying to be ****s.
