Yep.
Just a generation later, runners had grown stronger, faster and with improved technique.
Legendaries of the 60s, such as Bob Hayes and Jim Hines, would have left Owens (far) behind.
No, he hadn’t. He was #1 in his time. And you can't take that away from him.
But, more than 60 years have passed since Marciano fought in the rings.
I’m in the firm belief that boxing and its athletes are constantly under ongoing developement.
(If not, boxing unlike other sports, disgraces itself.)
I agree with your overall premise, but not to the extent being implied. I feel that there are generational outliers who would be successful regardless of era (wilt chamberlain).
I posted the above link that i believe argues that point well.
That being written, athletes as a whole are clearly better today. I also hate the argument of, ‘if so and so had modern training think how good he would be...’ For me thats just part of the variable- if being a better athlete know makes someone a better fighter than a counterpart of yesteryear then so be it
Isn't the topic putting them as they were so why is it people flipped it into giving them advances that means they know the way they were would be to outdated

funny enough!
Wrong!
they tested owens vs the silver medalist Adre De grasse. And under the same conditions, owens beat him. Owens wasn't even a pure sprinter. he got destroyed too, wasn't even close. almost a full second.
Lewis came in as low as the 220's same with Wladmir.
and just curious why list rockys absolute lowest weight and lennox's heavier weights (he went from 223-250+) so did rocky, after retirement.
I sense an agenda.
- - El Estúpidos are a congenital cognitive ***********, not necessarily nefarious.
On a mythical single fight by fight basis, Rock and Joe might do quite well much or most of the time, how ever in the here and now having to come up the rankings in the midst of these superheavies now training for 12 rounds at best, that's too long a gauntlet to manage without taking losses.
Let us not forget that Ike/Tua set the then total punch count for heavies broken by jiggling tubsters Kownacki/Arreola. FatBoys have learned how to fight.

Firm believer based on what?
Based on.....his knee-jerk emotional attachment to his world view of perpetual human progress.
It tells me Marciano is underrated by most fight fans today. i mean look at Ezzard Charles. After fighting Marciano he goes from being a winning fighter to a losing fighter.
That first fight with Marciano that went the distance. Charles got beat up real bad. AND EZZARD CHARLES IS AN ALL TIME GREAT. Ezzard Charles was a much more talented boxer then Marciano. For those who say its cause Ezzard was to old. Marciano was to old to. Marciano started he was 25 started old. Thats old for a heavy. Ezzard still went from being a winning fighter before he ever fought Marciano.
To being a losing fighter
Anytime a guy with no where near the skill of Ezzard Charles can do that to a guy with Charles skill.
Marciano can fight. 8 months in training camp. Marciano Go hard every minute every round
Charles had won 2 of his last4 fights.Age is only one indication, the mileage on a fighter's clock is a more accurate indication of his current abiilty ,imo.Charles had been in nearly 100 fights.that's a lot of wear and tear ,though no doubt it will be strenuously denied here.lol
