Nope. Read a few pages back where Sonny tells us something to the effect that "Nobody really thinks Lewis beat Hollyfield." I finally figured it all out Ned, Sonny is really a screen name for adeline Byrd.

Oh and someone has to be the one to point out that if one looks at the cuts, and understands anything about boxing it is obvious these cuts were from impact. They are not in the right place to be a headbutt...Headbutting openings happen where the skin meets the forehaead cause there is very little between the skin and the bone...and laces do not cut a face like that.

Lewis had not trained seriosly because He, like every Vegas bookie, and everyone else knew the chances of Johnson beating Lewis were on the order of winning the lottery...twice...

lewis really must have thought very little of Vitalie to take this fight and I would love to know what he was thinking.
Remember people thought Vitali was a stiff with no heart at the time.

Very true, I forgot about that after the byrd fight..

Klitchko brothers seem to go back and forth on who was the better one..

Early it was vitali, but then he failed drug tests as an amateur
Then wlad was considered the better prospect until the purritty fight
Then vitali when he beat herbie and was a titlist,
Then back to wlad when vitali quit vs byrd and wlad dominated him
Then back to vitali after he beat sanders who just beat wlad
And finally back to wlad after vitali retired instead of fighting Rahman
And wlad has basically had it since

        • Lewis is both underrated and overrated. He is a hard man to stick in a slot with confidence. He may have been great, he may have been somewhat mediocre. I think he easily whips the Klits, and Tyson Fury would not survive a Lewis era.

The problem is matching him with all time greats. He fought old versions of Holy and Tyson that mean very little or nothing. He could be beaten by overwhelming. Prime Lewis never had a hugely difficult fight where he had to show all his marbles. Bowe might have provided that.

Now you can try to spin it, try to wriggle out and deny it till your blue in the face. But Lewis was stripped of all 3 titles. He announced his retirement 2 days before he was to be stripped of his last remaining belt... Throughout this thread, both you, bill, ned and a couple of others. Have tried to claim Lewis to be a "World Beater", claim him to have fought the best set of contenders in history. Claimed him to have a fantastic unblemished record. while rubbishing the likes of Wlad Klitschko & Mike Tyson. None of you have come up with a single shred of proof to support your claims.

The bottom line is in your own words, that Lewis best opponents were. "Golota, Grant & Ruddock"...

Lewis was never stripped of any belts, it was Don Kings fault

Lewis mandatory No1 challengers were `unworthy` lol

Lewis never ducked anyone, they ducked him.. lol

i wasn't following boxing in 2000 you claim .. maybe still at school like you lol

You claim John Ruiz was not ranked in any credible ratings in the year 2000 lol other than the WBA who are the oldest governing body in boxing history.. lol

You claim, the 2002 version of Mike Tyson who was addicted to prescription anti-depressants, alcohol, ******* & cannabis. Was a better fighter at that time than both Ruiz & Byrd.. lol

Well LaceDUp, you have came out with some `Howlers` on this thread.
              Wow man.

              ******ed post.

You obviously weren't a boxing fan at the time. You sound like a complete rookie. Lewis gave up the IBF so King could have Holyfield-Byrd for that title and then have Ruiz vs Jones for the other. Paid Lewis £1m and gave him a Range Rover. Lewis ducking though.

Anyone who tries to claim Lewis ducked Ruiz obviously doesn't know anything about boxing.

Lewis had a good couple of fights where he had to show guts. Mercer, Bruno, Vitali, Holyfield...

Lewis announced his retirement 2 days before he was to be stripped of his last remaining belt, the WBC for refusing to fight No1 contender Vitali Klitschko. Lewis had promised the entire boxing world he would face Vitali in a rematch. Boasting he would, "Eat one brother for breakfast, the other brother for tea." Lewis ran off into retirement with his trousers full of brown, at the thought of The Brothers.
He wasn't scared, he was just done. He was 38 and shot, so he decided to retire. Neither of them were that well prepared for that fight and out of shape Lennox still won. He was the lineal champion and even if the WBC would have stripped him, he still would've had the title belt from The Ring when he retired, which was still considered the most legit belt at the time.

The only brown Lennox's trousers were full of was his brown skin. He didn't duck anybody, guys ducked him, either because of Don King or because they didn't want to fight him (cough BOWE cough).

He still won the fight and earned a shot at the title. Almost losing doesn't really count in sports.

There is certainly not any great weakness exposed here. As a matter of fact given Golatas standing at the time Grant showed a great finishing instinct, a good hard jab and very good movement....Thank you for the tape!

I think grant looked great that fight, I had not seen it before...anyone who wants to appreciate Lewis should have a look because the Golata fight gives an indication of why some people were hot on Grant. I never had seen him move so well frankly
The Foul Pole should be the new nickname for Golata now haha.
