Not exactly what I would describe as "destroyed career's"
Careers unfufilled. not fighting the best when there was an opportunity. This does bad for a legacy. Its the knock on Roy and Mayweather.

If you are playing at the "top 50" range and we have guys who could have shown they were a lot better it is a shame. We could say for example that Fernando Vargez showed he was a very good fighter whats the big deal? well...there is a school of thought that says if he fought Tito later, or learned to control himself he could have been a very good fighter! or even a great fighter.

Destroyed means destructive and destructive is indeed what not striving for the top can do for a legacy.

LOL Jeeeez! How? In what way?

Pacquiao, Hopkins, Holyfield, Tyson, Oscar, Tito and going further back, SRL, Hagler, Duran, Hearns all have better resumes and it's not even nip and tuck, they are miles better.

Name me RJJs 10 best wins and compare them to anyone who you think is an ATG with a great resume.

Mike Tyson has a better resume than Roy Jones?

        Tito? Oscar?

The only ones you can argue there are Pacquaio, Holyfield and Hopkins.

No idea why you're going back. Last 20 years you said now you're having to go before then to find people who have better resumes

Tyson, Oscar, Hopkins and Tito? That's comical. Name one fighter on their resume as good as Toney or Hopkins that they actually beat. Tyson lost to Buster Douglas lol.

Pacquiao,Hopkins, and Holyfield are debatable. Claiming Jones resume doesn't come close to comparing is absurd.

No, we're not going over twenty years. Let's not change the topic for your convenience.

Name 10 fighters that Jones beat to compare with top fighters from the last twenty years? I only need one. James Toney.

We got there when "Prime Akinwande" "Prime McCall" and "Prime Shannon Briggs" are listed as "Major fights" whilst Jones blasting out Griffin is considered "coasting"

We got there when guys like Reggie Johnson get the "but who did he beat for his belt" treatment all whilst saying Jones should have fought JOHN DAVID JACKSON instead of Hopkins because he "was a beltholder"

            This was all pages ago.

I assumed this debate was well and truley over pages ago.

Now it's reborn and not only reborn but reborn with the same crap that was shut down pages ago.

Dan I actually overlooked the other comments because like you I thought this debate had ended long ago.

            • Pretty high, somewhere in the top 20. I don't count bad performances against a fighter when he is well past it.

In the Hall fight Larry Merchant was angry at the referee for allowing Hall to take brutal flush shots before stopping the fight.

How is that "coasting and unwilling to inflict more harm?"

That's a total fabrication. Now it's gotten to the point where people are just making things up in this thread.
No one is making anything up.... Read my whole post and comprehend, I said that I'm not sure if it's true, it's just been a longtime story.. I was gonna use the example of montel to dispute but figured me saying at the end "I don't know if it's true" was enough to let people know I didn't fully believe that..
Don't bold something and twist my words, read the whole post

You flat out said what you said which I bolded. This is slick talk where you throw out a definite claim and then claim you never said it. That won't work with me.

The only thing you claimed as a "story" was Jones reason for being afraid which in your words was the Benn-McCllelan fight from "what you heard" LOL Heard from who? That's what you posted and there are no two ways about it.

Are you really going to sit here and deny you said what I clearly highlighted in bold? Please.

That's been the rumor for years,, I even said I don't know if true,,, your grasping at straws in this one,,, since Internet boxing forums began, that story has been around,, I'm not breaking any news, we have all heard it, not sure if true, but it's great a widely known "theory" or "story" or whatever you wanna call it..
Maybe I should have worded my post better and began it with " a lot of people have said..." I hope you can see that I wasn't speaking as it was fact, just that has been the word, in response to a poster that said all roy did was get boring decisions...
