Where does Roy Jones rank?

Some may not know that Roy Jones and Marvelous Marvin Hagler already had a fight. Look it up in Marvin's record. He won the fight.
I gaurantee that Felix Trinidad got his butt kicked by Salvador Sanchez.

It is easier to look great against opponents that are not great, or even very good sometimes. He fought a few decent opponents after Toney, but nothing of star quality. Ruiz was certainly no star, the weight difference and a piece of paper that read: Bearer is Heavyweight Champion, signed Foghorn Leghorn, promoted that fight.
If you think about it, very few Jones fights carried the excitement and anticipation that a talent of his stature should generate. This is because none of the opponents were good enough. Defending all those useless trinkets means fighting a lot of unworthies. A big champ has to go out and make the big fights.
Handling himself was a big mistake. He didn't know anything about lawyering and promoting. He was content to fight bums of the bi-year mandatories for years, safe within his HBO contract with his shoulders full of trinkets.
He believed history would reason like you do. All will be forgiven. History sometimes forgives over-acheivers who gain mythical status. Under-acheivers fall short of gaining such status. They seemed to have the talent, but failed to flesh out the resume with every top scalp.
If Mayweather had taken Margarito's scalp when Margie was considered a monster, it would sure look nice on his trophy stick now. Forget about what we think of Margarito these days, Floyd would have scalped a giant monster in our perception and he would have acheived mythical status as a fighter, not just an entertainer. With a few more fights against prime Cotto or near prime Mosley and a prime Pacquiao. The questions would be settled, we would know. Get them when their reputations are highest for maximum benefit.
Some people do not seem to get it that all time legacy is about tests not trinkets. They think those trinkets are accomplishments, which they certainly are, but they are not enough of an accomplishment for a super talent if the opponent was less than the one you did not fight. People expect a super talent to scale super heights. Jones had a faulty interpretation of super heights, I believe, and they were difficult to locate in his era in his divisions anyway. Jirov at the right time does a lot for him during that long stretch, but it was Toney that got that job done.

94-03 roy was the money man, dominated toney on PPv, top draw, p4p 1, hbo darling.. Much like chavez jr, Oscar, floyd, tyson, evander, wlad, cotto, canelo , if your the money guy you can make any fight you want to.. Everyone within 3 divisions calls these guys out.. Yet roy couldn't land a big fight from toney to ruiz ten years later. It would be like floyd dominating Corrales in 2001 and then just fighting the Ortiz, brusceles, shambra, Corley tyoe fighters for the next 10 years. Decent wins but not hall of fame wins, melt alone ATG wins..
Roy is great, no one disputes that but his resume is very shallow compared to other ATGs especially guys in the top 10 or 20

Same thing you're saying for Woods.
Almost everyone you listed for Lewis lost everytime they stepped up. Some lost when they didn't step up.
Mercer is a much tougher out than Clinton woods... You know this
