I think Ali's quick footwork is such a big factor in this fight that imo pre layoff Ali has a huge advantage over the post layoff one. I dont think Ali is significantly hurting Marciano whether he is young or old, so being able to stay away and keep the fight long is his main advantage.

Alis punches would eventually add up ,he may have moved more put his punches didnt have as much whip to them in the 60's ,he was able to fight better technically in the 70's and take punishment ,i think Marcianos chances fall right there because no doubt he needs a k.o ....when the computer simulation was done it was done in the 60's ,there were two outcomes they both won by k.o and tko so lets say it was 50 /50 with THOSE statistics ...add in the Frazier and Foreman fights i believe it makes Alis case stronger ,even his loss to Frazier since Frazier was able to do things i dont think Marciano could .If you listen to Alis post interview win over Quarry in 71 he says himself why hes much better after his ban .One also has to take into account he fought much better fighters in the 70's ......

I think both versions of Ali beats him dont get me wrong. But the slower footed, less mobile version from the 70's gives Marciano a much better chance at winning.

Marciano was made to fight at close quarters, (short arms, great strength,heavy hands, great chin,great stamina) and Ali of the 70's consistently showed that he was less able to keep the fight long through conventional means (he clinched a lot more and went into his rope a dope shell). When the fight is close Marciano is at a big advantage. Especially if the ref is strict in punishijg Ali for holding opponents neck and pushong their head down.

Whether or not you think he was a better fighter in general in the 70's (i dont) the style matchup suits a 60's Ali better imo.

No one. He beat guys like Walcott, Charles and Louis. Great boxers, but possessed nothing like the size and speed combination of a prime Ali.

The thing is Marciano was not a combo puncher style fighter ,he would have to constantly hit Ali with those one punch chip shots and i believe the biggest guy with talent Marciano fought was Walcott .Ali had holes in his game some fights proved that in the 60's like the Cooper fight ,i dont feel hes going to be able to hit Ali hard enough at Alis more durable state ,i think he has that power punches chance vs a 60's Ali though odds are against him ,to me 60's Ali is more competitive even fight ,70's Ali was still to fast for him combined with more ring savvy ,the measuring punch style of Marciano would be easy pickings for 70's Ali imop.Its do you go with footwork and slight hand speed advantage or better chin and better placed shots of the 70's Ali .

Rocky Marciano was a monster, especially for a heavyweight his size, but I don't think he has much chance against Ali. Big size differential, but I'd still give Marciano some chance of getting a surprise KO. That would be shocking though.
