As I already said, Frazier was just too small for Foreman and Lyle, Lyle made the mistake of brawling with a stronger man-and nearly stopped him!Lyle was nothing more than a big puncher. Chuvalo was stopped on cuts, Patterson outpointed him.
If that was the case Louis would not have lost an embarrassing one sided decision to Ezzard Charles prior to fighting Marciano. In his own words after that fight "I bled like a stuck pig and looked like ****". I think (estimating) Louis had only 3 KO's in 8 fights leading up to that fight. He definitely wasn't "still Louis".

Size aside he was the Lineal HW champion and undefeated and Foreman destoryed him.
We're going to have to agree to disagree. I will never agree to Pattersons resume and Charles' HW resume being better than Foreman's.
Agreed. I can't see in any way how a case can be made for that.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I looked at it. I can't understand what's behind it. Like you said, it defiies logic, reason, and it's ridiculous.

What PED's was Lewis on? Im not trying to be facetious, but I don't recall packages being sent to his house and rumors constantly swirling around him his entire heavyweight career.
Briggs is a big guy but it seems mostly from weights, take the weight away and he's probably about lyles size. you can see his weigh going up on box rec as well. Everyone gets heavy when they age. your bones thicken and muscles continue developing all the way untill 28 years of age.
In boxing, all musle really helps you with is in the clinch where you can perhaps lean on your opnent of shove them away, it can also help with taking body punches, but a lot of that also comes down to stamina and recooperation since most heavyweights can take a good body punch if they are tensing up..its if they aren't prepared that makes it hurt. At the same time excessive muscle slows you down and makes you tire quicker. thats why most boxers or athlets in a lot of sports try to find a happy medium. Obviously some like football or wrestling, require more.
i would say, a bit more resistance conditioning would have benefitted the athletes from the 70's a bit, not to some huge degree, but a bit. sort of Like Pacquiao has done.Last edited by them_apples; 03-10-2011, 10:10 PM.

How do you see a Prime Joe Frazier doing against a 33 year old Ezzard Charles?
How do you see a Prime Joe Frazier doing against a 38 year old Jersey "Joe" Walcott? Do you see Frazier ahead on the score cards when he stops Walcott?
