How do you see a Prime Joe Frazier doing against a 38 year old Jersey "Joe" Walcott? Do you see Frazier ahead on the score cards when he stops Walcott?
I can see him knocking both of them out. And yes, I can see him ahead on the scorecards.

You say you can't justify placing him higher than 12, so how in the hell can you explain that one?[/QUOTfore me if you are gonna put ali as no 2 then surley fraizer comes near to that as the fights them 2 had were serious fights and if i remember right in the last fight they had in the last round in the corner ali did not want to come out 4 the last round but frazer who was blind at the time was ready 4 the last round now if frazers corner didnt throw in the towel ali wernt coming out and maybe these rankings would look different . because of this i would have to put him 4th in your list. ANY COMMENTS ON THIS POINT THAT EVERY 1 SEEMS TO FORGET LOL

Ali's not rated at 1 (or 2, if you rate Louis 1) because he beat Frazier twice. He's rated at one because he beat

        Spinks
        Shavers
        Nortonx2
        Foreman
        Cooper
        Quarry
        Bonavena
        Patterson
        Listonx2
        Chuvalox2
        FrazierX2

        and more

Frazier's litany of wins doesn't compare to his and wouldn't, even if he had come out on top in the in Manila.

          .
Personally I'd put the late 40s & 50s as the strongest era for boxing over the various divisions. HW division was fairly weak but overall boxing was as strong as it ever was or ever would be. Pep,Moore,Charles,SRR,Cerdan,La Motta, Saddler,Williams? Want me to go on?

On that theory Schmelling must rank in the top 6. Split wins with Louis, beat a 90% prime Louis then got caught cold when past prime? Louis never ranks lower than 2nd so Max has to be top 6.

Agreed. I can't see in any way how a case can be made for that.
U kidding me?? Foreman had no class, no style. Patterson was miles ahead there. So was Charles and they both could punch also.

              • This is boxing not ballroom dancing: You don't get points for style, only for effectiveness.

Thats not how experts rate fighters. If you only use your crude strength to overpower and beat your opponent instead of boxing skills and savvy, you can't expect to be rated above someone who uses the other things. Like, Mayorga can't expect to be rated above Floyd, can he?

Citation please? What "experts" are you referring to? You? The important thing is whether you beat your opponents and who those opponents are and what your overall abilities are (namely how effective your strengths are as opposed to your weaknesses). That's how boxing historians rate fighters.

Mayorga can't because he's not as effective as Floyd.....but Pacquiao can. Bottom line: Is what you do effective or not. Mayorga isn't particularly effective while Pacquiao is.
