As far as the fight goes its obvious Tyson didn't expect a big challenge nor did his corner. They didn't even have an enswell! It's just crazy.. But, the ref could've easily stopped it cause it took Buster forever to get up and he looked like he didnt seem like he wanted any more after he did. I even thought that as it was happening. Incredibly, he came back and pulled it off somehow. Obviously, the ref missed a huge chance to save Mike's title which all but proves he wasn't affiliated with King..

Douglas was a superb heavyweight (in the making)
He looked great but ran out of gas vs Tony Tucker in 87..Had he continued to train like a challenger after beating Tyson., the careers of Bowe, Holyfield and Lewis, may have taken a different path.. Buster was undisputed, and all the mega fights would've fallen into place.. One did, he got obscene millions for the collapse against Evander..
Douglas felt as if he'd done it all, and kinda retired (in his head) once he'd won the belt
Then he started eating

I am not a fan of Tyson but saw much more out-counted that Douglas was; from my perspective the judge was unfair. Look at Douglas's face -- he looked terribly. He had a gift from history, that's all. Not the first, not the last.

I remembered, I even scored the 8th round only a 10-9 for Tyson, because Buster had dominated it, and he seemed fully in control laying on the floor. That a knockdown should automatically mean 10-8 I've never agreed with.
The only ugly history about this fight is, that if it had gone the distance, two judges might have deprived Buster of a much deserved points verdict.

Funny Tyson never got a rematch, considering he fought a few fights after that before going to prison. I heard there were promo posters for a Tyson/Holyfield fight before he was arrested though.
To answer the question, yes, James "Buster" Douglas really did beat Mike Tyson. His career took off so fast after that that he not only had his own video game for Sega Genesis, but he was also a guest referee that year at Summerslam for WWF. I think he knocked out the Macho King, if I remember correctly haha. Speaking of which, didn't Primo Carnera get involved in wrestling after his boxing career?
