With all due respect to Corrales, he wasn't in Hearns league in ANY department but heart. And Floyd fights at 147 nothing like he did at 135. Am I wrong about that?

I may have over stated my point and wouldn't argue with this. The simple fact is though, defense is not going to win this fight. No way does pot shotting take away from all Hearns effective aggression in this fight. If you couldn't out brawl Hearns, you couldn't beat him. NO ONE ever outboxed Hearns and there is no way Floyd would do throwing as little as he does at 147.

I agree Corrales was freakish at 135. But Hearns is bigger and better in every department at 147, and Floyd simply doesn't fight the same as he did at lightweight. That is a recipe for disaster.

I liken it to Adamek and Haye moving up to HW, their styles changed completely to a much more safety first style. And Floyd's safety first, potshotting style is not going to beat Tommy Hearns. Floyd has the defensive ability to last the distance in this one, but by doing so he will lose a wide UD. By trying to make it close, or win, he stands a chance of getting stopped.
Shrink Hearns down to 130 and fight that version of Floyd, you might have a different outcome. And I think Floyd is higher on a p4p ranking, but this is just a terrible matchup for him.Last edited by Jim Jeffries; 05-01-2010, 07:16 PM.
