Dempsey knew (by his own admission years later) that after the seventh round in Tunney 1, he was not going to win. But he locked his jaw and went the final rounds, determined not to get knocked out.

In the end his face was busted up real bad.

Dempsey chose to take the beating, Liston chose to quit.

      - - Tubbby Lar who was still skinny then was the GIANT SU CKING sound after Ali, Frazier, and ultimately Norton retired after he beat up Lar only to get robbed by the usual suspects hired by King.

Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits for Mike Tyson who cleared up fetid mess for a short time in his first go round.

Holmes probably had the best lateral movement of any heavyweight not named Ali, and one of the best jabs... No matter what your pickled brain thinks of him. He also managed to get rid of the sucubus we call Don King and retire with money and businesses.

Damn dude that's messed up. However we got to see Tyson get beat up more times than Holms so either way it's all good in my book.

Well it's an uncomfortable truth for some but Tyson was stopped more times than any other top 15 heavy in history.

As for prime Holmes v prime Liston.

Sonny much harder jab, Larry much more accurate.

Larry talks **** a lot of the time but at heart is a good man.

            So was Sonny.

Oh boy, this is a fight where any type of outcome can happen. Ko/Tko either way or decision either way UD,SD close decision or side decision.. even a draw.

I think outside of Liston landing his best ( which would KO /TKO Lewis if that happens ) Lewis has an edge in hand speed and enough height / Reach advantage to out box Liston.

With Lewis his ego is as big as a downfall as his chin, BUT I think he would take Liston seriously.

Liston's chin level is largely untested and he never fought a skilled super heavyweight. His resume of wins is very small next to Lewis.

Best guess is Lewis UD by a few rounds.

                  What is a side decision?
How do you win one of them?

Liston's reach was 84",an inch longer than Lewis'

                    - - Tubby Lar nailed his ignominy forever when ButterBean knocked him down in his last moment of boxing after mocking Lar for running the whole bout.

Lmao.....wow a 53 year old fighter was knocked down (most didn't see it as a knockdown) and still won the fight easily. Should we detract from the great Joe Louis because Galento knocked him down in his prime?
