Vitali and Sanders fought after Lennox Lewis' official retirement. Vitali was coming off a well contested loss to the outgoing champion and Sanders after chinning Vitali's brother in two. Seems recognising this as for the vacant world championship would have been reasonable, so why wasn't it?

Why didn't Vitali - Sanders establish new lineage?

Because Sanders was ranked for the first time in his career and it was at 9th by The Ring. In order to have established a new lineage Vits would have had to rematch Byrd, who was ranked number one at that time. If you go back and look at the 2004 year end rankings, besides Sanders Vitaly never fought anyone else in the top 10 (unless you want to count the loss to Byrd who he wouldnt rematch).
WRONG. Sanders was ranked #3 by the Ring. Not #9 as you ascertain. Based on their rules when the title is vancate as Lewis did not want to re-match Vitali ( though he said he would ) when a # 2 fighter a #3 and the linal title is vacant, it crowns a new champion. You can look it up.
The lineal champion has retired before with the title. By my count two times. Your hater teeth are showing . ...Byrd had no interest in rematchting Vitali when he held the title. As discussed before he was signed by Don King and went in the merry go round of fights between his men.

I mean, if Pacquaio-Bradley started a new lineage at 147 for no reason then why not?
There’s no line drawn for a “new lineage” it seems. Just slap in there whenever you feel like it.

You're correct, he was number 3, I looked at the year after. However, Byrd was number two and no attempt at even making that fight occurred therefore disqualifying and lineal fight. You say Byrd had no interest yet Vits never made an offer.
As previously stated, Pacquaio-Bradley 3 was to start a new “lineage” apparently even though Pacquaio was #2 and Bradley was #4.
To be honest, Vitali/Saunders has a stronger case than that fight did.Marchegiano likes this.

Wlad is always listed 2009 after Ruslan
08 Ring has Ruslan at 3
09 Ring has Ruslan at 4
Not sure even Ring sticks to Ring 1 and 2

After he defeated Williams, (fight after Sanders ) Vitali retired for 4 years from boxing to focus on becoming the mayor of Kiev. When he returned to boxing. Bryd was a champion he did not offer him a fight. So...
