  • Design the body type for your perfect heavyweight

With the constant talk about smaller heavyweights of the past, and whether their size would preclude them from competing against more modern heavyweights, I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's thoughts on what the optimal size would be for a heavyweight boxer.

So, go ahead and outline the height, weight, reach, and any other physical attributes youd think would be perfect for the fighter. But be ready to defend why specifically those exact numbers (why not an inch more, or a pound less, etc). Also, feel free to create a few based on their style, for example I doubt the perfect heavyweight swarmer would be built the same as an outside fighter, just be sure to label them.

Historically in my opinion the ideal size for elite HW's are 6ft1-3 range, around 210-220 lbs.

Almost everyone on my Top 10 ATG HW list fit that crtieria outside of Lennox Lewis, I think.

That size is big enough if the fighter is good enough.

        6' 4" -- 240lbs -- 8% BF -- built like Livingstone Bramble, but more fleet of foot.

P.S. Wilder looks good waist up but his legs are for shlt. I like fighters with strong pegs.

P.S.S. AJ looks perfect but for some reason he's not perfect. Makes me wonder about the importance of size.

          None.

          A beats B
          B beats C
          C beats D
          D beats A

Favoritism is found in the rules.

I agree with this. I think creating the best skillset for the size of the fighter to be a better ideas. What I mean is take Ali. 6'3" 215lbs......sounds almost perfect. But Joe Frazier at 6' 205lbs beat him because he had the skillset to do so. But if you put Fraziers particular set of skills on Ali's frame i highly doubt he'd be as successful with it. Vice versa if you put Ali's skillset on Fraziers frame.

Wladimir Klitschko was very successful with his style of fighting and skillset, but would he be as successful with that style and skillset if he were 6'2" 230lbs? I doubt it. He'd then be John Ruiz. Certainly decent, but not the same fighter.

I usually refer to Liston as an example of what I consider the perfect build.

I'd lean more towards a Cleveland Williams ,Donovan Ruddock type with the height to take on the mass for a boxer/puncher.

Swarmer? Look no further than Tyson for modern,Dempsey for pre modern.

Looks don't make a fighter Andy Ruiz v AJ 1.proved that.
If they did Harold Johnson would have been unbeatable at Light Heavyweight!
