Does anyone still think the old time heavyweights were too small to be competitive in the modern era?

Watch it again. He says I got a whole new problem once he is released. Meaning there is an upper level boss who arranged for his release.

No one arranged his release. He talked his way out.

Verbal Kint, talks his way out of custody on his own. Throughout the film, he weaves a complex story for Agent Kujan, who believes Kint is a small-time con man with cerebral palsy. Verbal's tale convinces Kujan that Dean Keaton (Gabriel Byrne) was the true mastermind behind the criminal events.

      • NO-ONE was above Soze.

He was the undetectable ghost that other criminal bosses/cartels were utterly terrified of.

I will never forget that finale when Verbal/Soze begins to walk normally.

        My jaw dropped in awe!

"Once he is released" is Verbil (Soze) once he is released......in my opinion.

Great ending. I also like Edward Norton in "Primal fear". Not quite the same level, but right behind it as far as endings and surprises go. Primal fear was also a great book.

But I do take issue with the boldface above.

It is impossible (IMO) to be constantly great in the fight game.

All these were wins, but had bad performance nights.

                  There are many more.

They all have bad nights now and again.

I think it is unfair to diminish greatest because of a bad night here or there.
I was really saying the same thing you are - that it's not about single results. It's about consistency overall. Also it's about who you fight. If you are always fighting the top guys and you win 3 fights for very 1 you lose. You could still be the greatest ever tbh! Versus someone who wins all their fights but very rarely fights a top-10 guy

this would absolutely never happen. I would actually bet my own life for a 2500 pay out that Marciano beats the dog **** out of Usyk.

                    • Most of those HWs from.the 30s 40s and 50s would be fighting at 168 or 175 today.
