What you don’t understand is, I have been on this forum since 2007. I was a teenager. Marciano was never someone I ever spoke of, I actually shared the same opinion most did. That he was a small heavyweight who fought former light heavies and got an easy pass. Then I found out this couldn’t be further from the truth.

it all started when I started sparring a lot myself, when I watched certain fighters fight - you can really get a feel for what they doing if you are in the ring yourself. If you aren’t you will fixate on things like size and speed.

I got intrigued by Marciano because I noticed everyone who had ever stepped in the ring with him seemed to be at a loss for words. Nobody could say anything bad about him after facing him, only before hand. This includes Louis, Ali, Moore, Charles. The only ones who had bad things to say are those who hadn’t met him or faced him.

boxing is largely a mental sport. Marciano is the definitive example of someone mentally strong. It radiates through his training habits all the way to the professional ring. Marciano had a very subtle and crafty style. He would sell his clumsiness to bait smart fighters into making mistakes and trading with him. He was a fine tuned killing machine. Made of steel. He perfected the art of leverage. Marciano was an incredibly gifted puncher. His transfer of weight and knowledge of his own leverage was phenomenal. His in ring focus was the greatest to ever do it. Most viewers won’t see these things because they aren’t readily noticeable. They won’t notice the explosive high velocity rounds he fires off in the midst of a deliberate display of looking clumsy and slow of foot. Only someone extremely comfortable under the lights can think like this in such a high pressure situation.

then there is the outcomes. He HURTs fighters. They aren’t the same afterwards. You can see the effect his punches have on them as soon as they land. Everyone runs from him once they realize what they got themselves into.

he would crouch down low and get opponents to reach down to try and hit him, on doing this they expose themselves to be lept up on and assaulted while off balance. You can see Louis struggling with it and adopting s wider lower stance in an attempt to count Marciano spider strategy.

Marciano hadn’t fought in 13 years. Ali was off for what? 2-3 years. He was in his mid 20s. If you want to talk about excuses start with that.

I don’t understand how a 45 year old 5 ft 10 fat balding man who hasn’t fought in 13 years is somehow in a better place than a 26 year old heavyweight champion who was just recently stripped of his title. You say Ali was out of shape, he won half his fights later in his career being completely out of shape.

In 2007 I was 58 and had been watching boxing for nearly half a century both on film and tv 'and buying books on the sport since I was 11
        You've done some sparring?

I BOXED OFF AND ON FOR NEARLY 2O YEARS.

After their fight Louis said Marciano was a street fighter who could be outboxed, but that his legs went on him.Moore said much the same thing.
Charles thought he won their first fight and said," I want him again".
Marciano NEVER deliberately looked clumsy or slow of foot, this is just another example of your hero worship.

Moore did not run from him,Charles did not run from him,****ell did not run from him, this is all just so much nonsense!

"My best punches did not seem to affect him" ." I hit him harder than I ever hit anyone" Marciano referring to ****ell whom he stopped on his feet in the 9th round.
****ell had been floored multiple times and stopped by a middleweight
        who was conceding12lbs to him,
He had been floored 5 times and stopped by a Lhvy.

Words like "Marciano" and "subtle and crafty style" in the same sentence... isn't that we call an oxymoron?

So you read the first paragraph and stopped reading.

it wasn’t to talk about boxing experience, it was to talk about how I realized Marcianos greatness. You keep putting it off like I am some blind Marciano worshipper. This is NEW to me. I wasn’t listing my credentials. I NEVER gave Marciano credit for all these years. You instantly went into boxing credentials mode and completely missed my point

I didn’t just see 49-0 and start worshipping Marciano. It took a long time to get here.

              I read all of it.
At least you admit to being a worshipper.

Marciano beats 99.9 percent of heavyweights / fighters. P4p he’ s best boxer of all time at least on film. He has the most important attribute of all - heart. Heart is effort. Heart means you train harder and try harder than everyone. You focus harder. You are dedicated. You improvise and adapt. He learned how to box in the pro ranks, he had next to no ammy career; hes a better fighter in his last fight than he is in the middle of his career. He never lost. If compubox was around in his day, he holds the record by far. If real knockouts were counted - where the opponent is unable to stand up - he likely holds the percentage record in that as well. Nobody was stopping his fights, he was stopping them. The harder someone goes at him the harder he fights back. His style beats just about every style (the crouch). Tall guys simply can†t punch down at a squatting shorter fighter whos stronger than them.

yeah, its all speculation who he can beat - but likewise its all speculation on who can beat him because he never did lose. We already went over this, but if one guy caught a beating in the sparring session between Ali and Rock, it was Ali asking for more money and taking a knee. It was Ali with welts all over his body and it was Ali on TV praising Marciano - the same man who openly talks down to Ali and calls him clay. Take it over leave it, the evidence all points to Marciano the better man. It was Marciano who was older, smaller and fatter. Marciano had much more time off, not Ali.

he was 185 lbs beating Walcott, Charles and Moore. He had no size advantage and dismembered all of them. Considering size was not the advantage here - these guys p4p were some of the best to ever do it. Even if age is a factor for Moore and Walcott, it wasn†™t for Ezzard. By the same standard should other heavyweights be judged.

who did Sonny Liston beat for example?

who did Larry Holmes beat? (And lose to)

I have really been missing this hilarious, delusional stuff these past few weeks... so welcome back!

But what's this about Marciano only beating 99.9 percent of heavyweights/fighters... I thought he beat everybody?

                    - - Well, The Rock is a bit musty and crusty 6' under now from rolling around after reading 25 years of comments about him. Can't expect him to beat everyone at that age and circumstances...

Marciano beat Ali up and dropped him for a 5 minute count, prompting Ali to demand 2000 dollars cash to continue sparring with him. Ali was seen sporting welts all over his body by proudly showing them off at a restaurant. Ali was said to say he could barely lift his arms after working with Marciano. He said Marciano was surprisingly hard to hit with the jab and had his own style that nobody could teach. He said he would be the hardest guy to beat, that hes better than Joe Frazier , the man who beat him. That he may not have won against Marciano.

                      Ali demanded the tapes burned.

Cant be argued now, soon every should wake up and see the brilliance and greatness of Marciano.
PROVE YOUR STATEMENTS. WHO SAID ALI DEMANDED TAPES BE BURNED? BOTH DUNDEES,AND PACHECO WERE THERE THEY NEVER MENTIONED THIS.nor is there any mention of Ali being floored for a five minute count.

That's two things you made up yourself!
ANCIENTJOE LOUIS HAD NO TROUBLE HITTING MARCIANO WITH A JAB AND ROCKY CONFIRMED THAT.
"I couldn't avoid them ,I just had to take them."
So 37 years old Louis had no trouble landing it on a young Marciano, but Ali had trouble landing it on a 45 years old Rocky?Do you actually think Ali was trying to land on Marciano? Do you really believe Marciano beat up Ali?
                      You'll believe anything won't you.
