Boxrec isn't the only site that says this. You can find it at cyber boxing zone and other sites. You say closer to 155. So are you also saying you actually believe he'd come in heavier in his next fight against Frank Klaus than zjohnson?
Use your reason, Kethel was 160 four months before his fight with Johsnon and again 160 lbs in the same year. He was 159 1/2 lbs in his next fight after Johnson vs .Klaus. Those are the listed weights!
The promotion of the fight tried to make Ketchel look bigger, photing him next to Johnson wearing cowboy boots! He looks under 170 for sure on film.Last edited by Dr. Z; 08-01-2024, 05:09 PM.

It is not so much the reported temperature but how that temperature felt. Same with windchill--how does it feel? With high humidity and a reflective canvas, 74 will feel a lot hotter than 74.
Not that Johnson was not a bullshitter. He may have been a greater story teller than fighter.

I've never read a quote by Johnson blaming the temperature.

You didn't answer the question. Why would Ketchel come in at the middleweight limit or ner for a heavyweight fight? That makes no sense whatsoever. He looks under 170 "for sure"? I'm just curious how you came to this conclusion? Is it because that's what you want to believe, or do you have scientific basis for this?

Because that was his best weight. He trained. He did not have any fat on him. I use reason. Try it sometime.
Burns came in at 168. Below his normal weight. There are reports of him suffering from a jaundice.

Ellis,Spinks,Usyk,Byrd, ,Tunney,Tiger,Griffith,Foster ,Loughran,Rosenbloom, etc all added eight to compete against bigger men, they added muscle weight, which is heavier than fat. None of them had discernable fat on them. You are spouting nonsense.
Tommy Burns weight fluctuated his whole career he defended his title against Gunner Moir weighing 171lbs That was one year before he fought Johnson.
Burns trained publicly for Johnson and stated he was in the condition of his life.
Burns was the Champion and close friends with the Promoter/Referee McIntosh if he was not100% he would have sought a postponement.
Burns never said or implied he had jaundice either before or after the fight.
When you tried this old chestnut on Classic, trying to say he was sick, you quoted Kevin R Smith as saying he had jaundice.Smith came on Classic and denied ever saying that and told you ,in no uncertain terms, never to deliberately misquote him again!
Now you want to take weights that agree with your agenda and disregard those that do not?
This is what you said a couple of posts ago, after I posted Ketchel's 170lbs weight for Johnson.
"Who told you Ketchell was 170 LBS? BS, that's a Box Rec weight"
You believe Box Recs weight for Ketchel was160lbs against O Brien, but refuse to accept their figure of 170lbs against Johnson?
You can't have it both ways!
Box Rec also has Ketchel at170lbs against Joe Thompson in1908 Is that wrong too?
