You Get To Attend One Historical Fight

Fun thread.
My Dad started taking me to the fights when I was quite young and I developed a lifelong admiration for the sport.
A few times I'd thought of starting a thread called "Greatest fights we've attended live" but I thought it would be arrogant and I abhor arrogance. I try not to brag OR debate because I don't get anything out of it. Also, It's not fair to those living far away from where the big ones are held, lacked the opportunity to travel of were born too recently.
I'll just say that I was fortunate to've attended most of those during the past 50+ years that I really wanted to be at. Some of those are listed above.
FYI, My list does not include being in New Orleans in 1892. Sadly.
My pick is Dempsey-Firpo.
Forvanta-Apollo the sun God would have been a trip as well.
I knew Willie Pep and Sandy Sadler, especially Pep, but I'm too young to've seen them fight.
Would've been outstanding to have been at fight II of IV, with Dad, February 11, 1949.

I will have to eliminate some fights as contenders just because I am averse to excessive heat, direct sun and discomfort in general. No Dempsey/Willard for me, outside on 4th of July. In fact, no Dempsey fight is in contention for me, especially the one where Rickard's hastily-built bleachers were leaking pitch onto garments. I want to see more than a few rounds if I am going to time travel.
I would rather be in a smoke-filled indoor arena than outside in the elements. Saddler/Pep IV might be interesting to attend. I think that is the one with all the fouling.Last edited by Slugfester; 07-03-2023, 10:43 PM.billeau2 likes this.

This was the fight that was supposed to get Sam a title shot and I've always felt he MAY have held back on Ketchel as to not scare him off.
