  • Greb vs Robinson

Without any video of Greb's performances, we only have his resume and legend to quantify his greatness. Does Greb's windmill style, stamina and rough tactics get him a win over the master boxer Robinson who had speed, footwork and ring generalship to his advantage? Robinson struggled with LaMotta and Basilio, was Greb that much better than them that he'd have an easier time with Robinson? Was Robinson that much better than Greb's opponents like Gibbons, Brennan, Flowers, and Tunney that he'd have an easier time with Greb? How does a fight play out between them?

theres a good chance he overwhelms robinson if we got by the written accounts of what he did and fighters he fought. apparently his chaotic aggressive style nobody could prepare for

      - - I'd suggest Robby infinitely better than Tiger Flowers.

I'd suggest Greb better than LaMotta and Basilio. Why not take a version of Gren who wasn't blind in one eye and on the slide after more than. 300 fights?

          - - I'd suggest Tiger in the same boat, ie: Flowers was hospitalized in November 1927 to have surgery to remove scar tissue from around his eyes. Complications from the surgery resulted in the tragic passing of Tiger Flowers, reminiscent of the surgery that caused the death of Harry Greb the year before.

Tiger lost 3 of his next 7 bouts after Greb. Greb coming up took losses to journeymen level fighters. He also never suffered the permanent physical debilitation of near fatal Heat Prostration as did Robby who should've been and would've likely been pulled today vs Maxim.

I suggest Greb would struggle vs Lamatta and Basilio.

So I prefer Ray over Harry, sue me!!!

If Greb overwhelmed SRR the first time, as he did Tunney, like Tunney, SRR would figure out Greb's simplistic style and dominate him in the rematches.

Greb could probably overwhelm many a great fighter first time out. But even Flowers who dropped a NWS decision in their first fight, then came back and edged him twice in rematches.

Still say this guy was feather fisted.

Greb was blind in one eye. They both passed tragically having surgeries, but Harry was BLIND. Do you understand the difference now?

I wonder, when the general public was first made aware of Greb's blindness (in one eye)?

So what is the earliest written report (like newspaper article) we have, where it's revealed, that he had completely lost sight in one eye?

I'm not sure the first report, but if I'm not mistaken he lost sight when thumbed against Kid Norfolk.

Yes, that's how the story goes, but was this known at the time... or was it only revealed years after his death?
