Dempsey, like most all worlds heavyweight champions, was fearless. Dempsey however was very gracious with his words.
Dempsey fought numerous black fighters. He didn’t as champion as Blacks were barred from fighting for the worlds heavyweight championship (formally or informally).
It is a shame that Marcianos abilities as a fighter are not more widely accepted. He would have gave hell to Ali and Holmes (I’d give Marciano a good chance of beating Holmes) and would have stopped Frazier. The only heavyweight champions I see him having tremendous difficulty against are Johnson, as Jack was very used to fighting swarmers. Dempsey, who was a greater, far quicker swarmer who could also box. Tyson and Foreman because of their tremendous power and physicality.

There is no record of dominance like his. You'll find no analog in the BK years. You'll find nothing but the most mythological Olympians trump Marciano's story. If he wasn't known and proven there'd be no reason to believe his **** happened because on the surface of things Marciano's career is bar-none the most impossible.
How many fighters had a nice career post Marciano? About half isn't it? About half the career fighters Marciano fought continued fighting for several years after. Money did some numbers but it ain't that one. Destroyer of men.
Y'all already know his KOs % and the fact that he never lost.
Plenty of weak eras, always catch losses. Plenty of weak eras, not so many fighters with such high KO%. Plenty of weak eras, whose opponents would not retire five fights or less removed from meeting the principle.
Probability is pretty easy on this. Fact is the most likely thing to happen if a man fights Marciano is he gets beaten, KO'd, and hurt so badly he's had the fight literally knocked out of him and can no longer continue his career.
There is no one, ever, in the entire history of boxing who ever did anything like that.
Show me an example of rope-a-dope pre LaStarza. Exactly. And what happened to him? According to Bill Libby Marciano broke his elbows. You can not guard the Rock.
Show me an example of a shuffle prior to Walcott? That is right son, you can not dance The Rock.
He obliterated the pioneers to such a degree I doubt their sons do any differently. The trick is out by the time of Ali....When Joe hit Marciano with a Sucka it was a new punch developed by Joe, hence the name. What if it wasn't? What if Marciano had a generation prior to study? If he could catch up between rounds 2 and 13 would he have even been dropped? No one gives credit for the mental ability of Marciano but that dude was thinking. Two of the most impactful techniques still handed down generation to generation made their debuts against The Rock. Lesser fools of higher regard have had more time to train and understand and coop with them than Marciano and still struggled more to find an answer for them.
Who couldn't hold who's jock? Ol Lar did some dancing....cute...y'all love some dancing so do some praising, but when the real drops what happens? Ol Lar couldn't coop with the same **** Marciano blasted out with less time to figure out.
Which is why in y'all fantasy fights the biggest leap I ever read is Marciano losing. I really don't care about perceived flaws and perceived advantages because that is all perception. What isn't is the probability any human being ever defeats Marciano in any boxing match.
Don't know why people assume I just like Italians or Americans or Whites or punchers or any of the **** I've been told why I am a fan. I'm a fan because I did a lot of research and this dude stood out the most to me. Period, and that's where I end perceptive arguments too. My perception is his story is the most difficult to believe. My arguement for it is all facts. He really did beat everyone and he really did send most of them home demoralized. Check boxrec, look, most the dudes who ever fought Marciano stop fighting once they fight Marciano.
It's not who beats him. It's who is next.

He used to get on the microphone and say "Whose next?" after beating an opponent within about 5 minutes. When he debuted in WWE, he famously said to one of their stars "YOU'RE next" and when WWE Champion Bobby Lashley wondered who his next title challenger would be from their weekly Raw show at the next pay per view, Goldberg came out and said "I'M NEXT" lol.
I still watch my era and my promotion from time to time.
ECW was okay but after a couple shows you get it and it isn't as cool
1 Sting - All versions. I was a little Stinger in the crowd back when THIS IS STING! was Sting if you get me then when Cros Sting came I didn't even realize that was Sting, I had never seen The Crow, I thought it was a cool mix of Batman and Kiss for a new character....and it kinda is but when I found out he was Sting I was a bit sad until he came from the rafters and beat the tar out of the NWO with his bat. Sting is forever my favorite wrestler. I don't even like to talk about TNA or WWE sting....lower case that ****er. Dragged his good name through **** because the man, Steve, ****ing moron, but that character was good as ****. Stinger Splash is ****, Scorpion Death Lock, Death Drop, all basic as ****, Sting was cool though
2 Juventud Guerrera - Masked, bit on the taller end compared to guys like Eddi and Ray but of the high fliers and such my dude was Juvey. I used to moonsault off anything I could, trampoline, waterfall, you name it. Point to the sky, shout never say die, and leap.
3 Goldberg - You already know. Who's Next blraaa snorts smoke from the pyro out and stomps through any fool in his way. Goldberg gets criticized heavy for not being a great wrestler. Who gives a ****, great look, great gimmick, Goldberg should have never been rounded out. Never on the mic, never multidimensional. Just a destroyer, a mindless freak hell bent on supremacy and destruction.
The only guys from WWF I was ever into were massive. I like Hogan and Macho, Rock and Stone Cold, Brock, and don't actively dislike anyone....Kevin Owens is fine, Randy Orton is fine, they're fine kids doing their job well but they're just not as cool as Sting coming from the rafters to clear the ring and say **** all.

I always hated Crow Sting (although it was a good late career gimmick change for him.)Marchegiano likes this.

The normal convention of holding mythical match ups under the rules and customs of the older era of the two fighters involved heavily favors Marciano more than any other fighter. The Rock wins a 60 round fight every time. The older the era, the better Marciano can be expected to do; the heavyweights were smaller and fights were scheduled to last longer. He was undefeated in a later era. I don't know if Marciano wore larger gloves than Dempsey. One of you bums might know. Dempsey certainly did not wear LARGER gloves than Rock, but it may have been the other way around. He probably at least wore gloves that were a little better and a little softer and did not mold to the knuckles so much as the gloves in Dempsey's era.
A fair bit of speculation above all right. But the short version is: the tougher conditions are, the better Marciano can be expected to do. He did not even fight in the era of toughest conditions, yet was nevertheless undefeated.

1600 plus recorded ring deaths between 1890 and 2010.
Right now the annual average number of ring deaths sits at 13.
1920s saw 230 plus deaths, while 2000-2010 saw just over 100.
