I miss Ali. Even when he was obviously so taken with Parkensen's disease and could only whisper he used to use his eyes and gestures to let people know he still had his sense of humor.

Here is a true story about Ali that says a lot about his character: Ali always loved and had great respect for martial artists. This was one of those things people knew about him. He used to train with guys like Dillman and Choe Park and help many guys with demos when he was around. So one day he agrees to do this demo with a local Black Belt. the Black Belt was from some area like Lousville, or Tennessee... Ali gets up there and humors the crowd talking about how this "master" was going to teach him a lesson, being obviously overly respectful, genuflecting with bows, and smiling away. So, as the martial artist describes it: " we start out and Ali is dancing, and lets me throw a few shots, the crowd goes "ewww!!" So I think to myself "Ha! I bet I can get this guy!" and I go in there with some real intent, Ali acts like he is shocked, his eyes are big as saucers... Well, I see a jab hand returning and feel a poke, a pressure and my legs start to buckle, my body is like... what did I get hit with? Never saw a thing. I see Ali come in and grab/clinch me, makes sure I have my legs back. He then retreats acts as though I have hit him when I hadn't been able to touch him, Ali smiles, addresses the crowd talking about "that martial arts master!"

the martial artist goes on: "I could not touch him, he could have killed me, and when he gave me the smallest taste of his speed and accuracy, he made sure I was not embarassed, or injured."

Ali was a very classy guy. Great story, thanks for sharing it.

Life is like a fight, you've got your good rounds and you've got your bad rounds, you've got ups and downs. Life is a fight, and no one fights better than me.'
