Johnson did not fight the other great black heavyweights as champion but these bouts were made and predominately fell through.
Black vs Black bouts were not a big “seller” back in those days.
The predominately white paying audience wanted to see a white contender, any white fighter, beat Johnson.
The strong push for this outcome led to the riots and subsequent killing of blacks across the US in 1910 post Johnson vs Jeffries and polluted the waters for any black heavyweight until Joe Louis 27 years later.Comment

Funny how when someone argues that the Dempsey - Wills situation was complicated and the fight squashed by outside circumstances, e.g. laws, venue problems, money, failed promises, we're told by certain posters on here that those things don't matter, that they're all just excuses.
But then they use the same arguments to let JJ off the hook.
Kudos to Jab he is the only one who holds both fighters to the same standard.
