Now If Walter Payton or Barry Sanders were playing against the same lines he did, they would make about 3,000 yards per season. None of that means Brown would not be a good boxer. He already knows what hard training is.

He cried for special dispensation when he crept back to the huddle instead of walking normally or jogging like the other players.

Boxing is an intricate sport with lots of nuances. You don't just go in and start beating people who have trained and practiced it for years, unless they are scrubs. Brown might do all right, but not fresh out of the blocks.
Many today claim the 'Brown didn't block' rhetoric was racially motivated. Much in the same way they use to try to convince themselves that Negro fighters didn't like body shots.

It was a way to claim the black athletes were not complete professionals.

Today of course we know Brown did block and nobody likes getting hit in the body.

      - - Marian Motley did all the blocking Pep and did it hightops because no cleats to fit his foot then. Marion was a complete two way football player playing linebacker on defense and a higher rushing average by a substantial amount, but he was old when entering Post WW2 for only a few years of playing. Prob more popular with fans too.

Brown was talented, but an horrific, high maintenance prima donna. Can you imagine if Wilt or Willie refused to play defense?

So, it matters when you beat your wife now?

Ali was punch drunk, never heard of him beating his wife.

I can't even imagine someone beating him, even if all he did was develop an effective jab.

Chuck Liddell in his prime. He has a pretty good straight right.

                - - Not excusing Robby, but usually wife beating situations are mutual abuse. Being punch drunk only exacerbates the situations. Ali was gravely enfeebled, so hard to whoop his wife when he could barely stand up.

Gee, it sounds like that is exactly what you're doing, excusing him. Are those the excuses you use when the cops show up on your doorstep?
