Who exactly was even calling for a rubber match after Duran quit?

This article explains in depth why there was no immediate rematch after Duran quit against Leonard.

If I were to say “Thrilla in Manilla”, I imagine most boxing fans would immediately know what I was talking about. If I were to say “the Rumble in the Jungle” the same thing would happen. If I were…

Duran didn’t nearly beat hagler if you watch the fight and score it properly and why on Earth would Duran be confident he could beat hearns when hearns was equally as good as Duran and had beaten Benitez and knocked out Cuevas more convincingly.
ok so dont ever use the "Leonard fought Durans fight" card then, because thats an excuse. he was in his prime and got beat up.

On top of that, Hearns wasnt a slick mover. In his WW reign he rarely, if ever took a step back. Tall and rangy sure.

And in the end end Duran did a lot better than Hearns did vs Hagler, and Hearns really didn't do any better of a job on Cuevas than Duran did, he got rid of him a bit sooner, but Duran still dominated him. I want to even say Hearns win over Benitez was lack luster.

I watched their first bout live at the now long defunct Ice World in Totowa NJ. This bout and Ali Frazier 3 which I also watched live at this venue rank as the most exciting in my lifetime. The crowd was one huge roar every round for both bouts.

at the end of the day what ever way you cut it .....Duran was starched by hearns easily......that’s because his physicality were way to much for him to overcome....height , reach , power and quickness.
I never said hearns was a slick mover against Duran I said his size and reach made the difference.
As for Leonard’s excuse....the bottom line is leonard has a 2-1 record over Duran so leonard proved he was the better fighter when it all nailed down....ohh yeah don’t use any excuses because Duran just had a brilliant win against Barkley and must have trained for the rubber match like a mad man against Sugar ray......Duran lost every round

I know jab that article is pretty much how I explained it earlier in this thread.....no one would touch Duran , promoters , trainers , his managers etc .....he was in exile and the boxing world cast shame on him.
He then came back back had a couple of lacklustre wins and then lost his next two fight against Benitez and Laing.....these idiots on here have no idea about the history of this bout and why the rubber match never happened earlier in the 1980’s ....Duran would lose 5 times before leonard faced hagler in 1987 but posters on here refuse to accept that.
Fighters have to win to make the big fights possible and Duran didn’t when it was needed against leonard and the 3rd fight in the early 80’s

                - -Don't change that Duran ready to rumble after his potty.

So Cosell and the boxing suits conspired to drum him out of boxing. U wear a suit while on U plunger emergency calls?

                Sweet!

So he was ready to rumble....so what? I love Duran, but he quit and didn't have a leg to stand on to get a rematch. What he may have wanted doesn't mean he deserved it.

                    - -Nope.

Circumstances dictated Ray never got the credit leading to his subsequent primadonna retirements to hide his inferiority complex.
