Oscar always has the support of the local Mexican fans in Vegas unless he's fighting a fellow Mexican. Sure there are a lot who aren't crazy about him but they are in the minority.
I had never seen Jimenez either. If he was indeed a "beast" and people in the industry knew it, you have to think his management dropped the ball on this one.
Agreed with concensus, Taylor by boring UD. Taylor relies a lot on his jab and Sturm has a good one as well, so that might trouble Jermain a bit. Not enough for Sturm to win it though.
I voted 8. Sure he was stopped a few times, but those were after prolonged beatings at the hands of some fairly good punchers. Not many guys would have lasted as long as Mike did against Lennox eating leather like that. Tyson could never be taken out with a single shot, and he absorbed some huge ones during his career.
depends if and how he wins
Precisely. If he "stinks" out the joint and wins a boring decision by playing a saftey first game it won't help make him into a PPV star. I'm not saying which way he should approach the fight, a win is a win, but what fans want in a PPV superstar is not defensive brilliance.
If he throws a lots of punches and goes on the offensive at times busting up Oscar, it will certainly gain him some new fans. No matter what happens he won't be a star over night, but it will be a huge leap forward.
I really hope he doesn't retire either way.
Trust me when I say this, Hatton would have better luck against Mayweather than he would against Mosley. Hatton eats jabs alittle too much (Mosley jabs much more than Floyd), and his rushes would feed into Mosley's specialty of running his opponents into shots. Hatton might make it through 12, but he would be a swollen bloodied mess.
Agreed. Although i think Hatton loses to both, stylewise i think he fairs better against Mayweather.
Great fighter and sure HOF'er but i don't know about putting him up in the league with the Fab 4. The best names on his resume were soundly beaten previously, and a bit past their prime when Winky fought them. Not to say that Wright wouldn't have defeated them anyway, but it does "hurt" those victories a little bit.
The thing that is interesting about this matchup is both fighter's stamina. Pacquiao is so relentless that even if he's not landing all of his shots flush he wears his opponents down. Diaz is well conditioned and doesn't have the old legs of someone like Erik Morales.
That being said i'd still favor Pacman. Juan's style of going nose to nose doesn't bode well for him here IMO. I think he needs to take some on some more quality fighters before thinking about a match with Manny.
Man this fight/event is going to be far bigger than I expected.
On ESPN magazine and Sports Illustrated???
As well as the 1.4 million viewers of the first episode of 24/7?
This fight has the potential to bring boxing back.
Hopefully the fight at least lives up to half the hype. If it turns out to be a cat and mouse stinker, it could set things further back in terms of boxing's main stream popularity.
