As crazy as it sounds :
I like John by stoppage , i think Gamboa is not too difficuilt to hit and John is a level he's never faced before , although it would not suprise me if Gamboa scored an early TKO .
But overall i like John by stoppage around 9 !!!!!!!
These two aint Floyd big man , they dont deal in dud fights , both fighters if its possible always look for stoppages this will be no different !!!!
Head says Pac
Heart says Cotto !!!!!!!!!!!
Kessler and Froch are obvious picks they have to be in there. I would have had Bute and Andrade settle their rematch in the tourney. I also would have had Allan Green and either Bika or Ward would be fine if I have to stick with the six man robin style construct......no way I put Dirrell in, he has no notable wins at all even though he appears to have skills. Taylor has 1 win out of his last 4 where he was ko'd in two of those fights, and AA is untested on an elite level which I made a thread all about here.....

Well lets look at market ability , Abraham is an undefeated middleweight champion with 10 straight defences under his belt he for me is a no brainer , Allan Green , well Allan Green is a fighter the boxing may faithfull may know but you ask the general public who Allan Green is they will reply Allan who ???? , and to put up an argument saying Direll has fought nobody and say you would include Green is pretty hypocritical as Green's resume is far from great with a loss to Miranda !!!!!!
You have a fair point on Bika , but Bika we have seen and heard him before , he is old news .
Me personally i think they have picked exactly the right people with varying marketing angles and different styles and from different country's .
Id have changed one thing , id have put Pavlik in for either Ward or Dirrell probably Ward , but hey Bob Arum has his own agenda for KP !!!!!!
Firstly there are no mandatory obligatons until the Tournament ends.
And secondly, I think the titles are worthless when considering the tournament will establish a champion. But the titles do add glamour to bouts...and of course people will want to become a 'world champion' by claiming a belt along the way.
I've stopped paying any respect to any of the four titles anymore. I try my best to recognise one lineal champion in each division. This tournament should clear that up for the SMW division with Calzaghe's retirement.
Thanks for clearing the Madatory one up !!!!!
Really good reply i agree with all of the above !!!!
:biggthump
Its a joke , Bob Arum is a joke !!!!!
One minute Juanma is going up to fight Gamboa , then gets in a war with a journeyman and its all off !!!!!! , ha ha ha ha Bob Arum is laughable .
Juanma comes out and says i want Caballero but Top Rank have other plans , people are gonna start switchin off to the kid (outside of Puerto Rico) unless he fights Caballero !!!!!!
caballero has no life outside of juanma it seems....someone is a bit obsessed.
Thats probably because he sits at home with two world title belts and naturally wants to add Juanma's to the collection !!!!!
I like Palik in this one , i dont think Williams will carry enough power @160 to stop Pavlik in his tracks , having said that Williams does have the size to nullify Pavliks strength on the inside and in the clinch ala B Hop .
Overall i like Pavlik by stoppage but i do beleive PW has the tools to do him and im kinda hopin he does !!!!!!!
They were chosen primarily for marketability, most of the fighters I would have wanted are not American and the ones who are, are unknown. Ward and Dirrell are U.S Olympians, they always have gotten special treatment in boxing and it is the primary reason why they are in the tourney. The point of this was to prove without a doubt who the best SMW in the world is. I don't think the participants for this can sufficiently do this, but it beats watching all of them beat up cans and mando-cans.
Id say marketability and potential are the main two when considering Ward & Dirrell , you are making a pretty big argument for a pretty big nobody in my eyes with Green .
Who ever comes out of this tourney a winner will in my eyes will be the number 1 fighter @167 probably primed and ready for a super bout with Pavlik should Arum have his way and or Williams doesnt put pay to that one !!!!
To say that a potential winner among this calibre of fighter and in this format is not the number 1 in the world because they wont have fought Bute or Andrade is way way wide of the mark !!!!!!!!!
No, they give you an idea of who the top 4-5 fighters in a division are. Even the winner of the tourney may not be the clear cut best at SMW. Some ppl will still wonder how the winner would do against Bute if he beats Andrade and remains unbeaten getting wins over the next 2 years. What if Allan Green gets some good wins in this span of time or someone else emerges as a top contender at SMW?......this doesn't solve very much though I look forward to great fights that are evenly matched. They didn't pick the right combination of fighters for the tourney to determine a clear cut #1 at SMW.
Really , mmmmmmmm....... interesting !!!
Who would have made your line up ??????????????
it's not personal Caballero, It's about money!!!! Fighters do what they have to do, to make MONEY! and ducking serious opponants is RULE #1. Joya ducked MARGARITO, COTTO, FORREST, ETC...serious opponants and still made MILLIONS! HOPKINS has ducked RJJ for over 16 years...and has become a millionaire... And Lennox never rematched Klich cause of the danger it would be! It's all about MONEY BABY!!!! And finding the safest way to make just that!!!!! MONEY. P.S. IT'S NOT PERSONAL
Kids dont join an amatuer boxing club to become millionaire's they join a boxing club to become an undispuited world champion !!!!!!!!
I would say any of the 4 world title's would have to be seen as a succesfull boxing career , providing there has been domestic title's held previoulsy and the world title was not an alphabet title !!!!!
I can already picture if Cotto wins next week.
Cotto: 'I want Mayweah'r next'
*Ellerbe looks at Floyd*
*Floyd looks at Ellerbe*
Floyd: Wat?
Floyd then says " i think my diper needs changing "
Floyd clings to this bull shit about wanting the fight in 99 , then again in 2002 with Sugar , and to be fair he has a point , im not so sure he wanted the seemingly un beat able Lightweight Shane Mosley but he did call out Shane after the Forrest losses in 02 .
However i digress , the real reason is Floyd is scared shitless of Mosley , cant ****in wait to see what he does when Shane gets the winner of Cotto Pac as Arum wants nothing to do with Floyd !!!!!!
Cotto all the way !!!!!!!!
Im sick of Freddie Roach im sick of catch weights and more importantly i wanna see Cotto win a mega fight in style !!!!!!!!
Pac can go and bang at Jr WW once he's been KO'd !!!!!!
Yeah bro im with you on this one !!!!!!!!!
****in disgrace , still it doesnt stop Diaz Malinaggi (bull shit) , Cintron does not warrant a re match here as Martinez wooped him big !!!!!!
I don't even think so. Floyd will make crazy money demand. Or ask for 16oz gloves or ask for largest ring size. I don't even wanna think how long it'll take them to decide what weight they'll fight at. Roach is gonna bitch about Floyd not making catchweights and mayhem will ensue. Both camps might get fed up and look elsewhere. :nonono:
Pac beats Cotto = Floyd Pac @147 , for the P4P title !!!!!!!
Simple .
Juan Ma , has some pretty big balls going up a to fight Gamboa and runs the risk of being blown away by the bigger man , i like Gamboa by TKO late on !!!!!!!
To see the Pac-May fight made. Looks fukin impossible right now.
What are u serious ????
Pac beats Cotto , and there we have Pac Floyd !!!!!! :pat::pat::pat:
Dude, stfu already. YOUR boy got almost KTFO by a real bum today...
Back to the topic, I just want to add something for those who saw the fight and don't speak spanish. It's kinda funny, Gamboa was doing nothing in the first 3 rounds, being patient and all, because that's the strategy his corner wanted him to use. Then, in the break before the 4th round, his trainer told him in spanish: "Ok enough, let the dogs out."... And then you saw Yuri coming in the ring like a category 5 tornado destroying everything in the way, Whyber happened to be there :D It was a classic for those who heard what the coach said.
Nice post , well said !!!!!!!
This fight holds reasonable interest on a world level i think , would like to see it on an undercard , does anybody know what card this is schedule'd for ?????
Still would of liked to see Clottey Marg 2 instead though !!!!!
Roy Jones 's biceps when he was a heavyweight were huge !!!!!!
Joshua Clottey's biceps are ****ing insane too !!!!!!
Cant post attatchments as im still a newbie !!! , mother ****ers .........
