I don't think he should bother.
He has his legacy as one of the hardest hitters of our time. He shouldn't hurt his career with a comeback attempt that could well fail.
He needs the cash. IRS are all over him.
On the topic at hand: he won't redeem himself from fighting McBride. I don't think he could ever redeem himself. Remember to redeem himself he has to dominate the division. I would really like to see him do it - but don't think its realistic.
Its a pitiful situation really. Bowe has dreams of grandiour. Dreams of the old Holyfield days. I do not want to see him fight again. Signs are that he will get licensed. They have already thrown out the brain-injury evidence and they are on their last ditch attempt to stop him by analyzing his speech. So he may be licensed and back real soon.
Fair enough..
He (Harrison) needs to get a fuckin wiggle on though cos he aint' gonna make a penny with whatever his TV deal is on the BBC (hardly famous for promoting big fights!) and he's 30-odd already isn't he?
Yeah he is 34 I think. Your right. He does need to get a move on. Every fight takes its toll, especially at heavyweight. Yet another fighter defending a nothing belt (WBF).
Yeah, but he only had to turn up to beat Williams didn't he... and look what happened there.
You beat me too it!
The weight is one thing, but hasn't he had quite a long training camp with Fenech? If he has he'll be in some semblance of shape, unless – as he is well known to do – been skipping sessions.
Tyson should beat McBride comfortably, but as anyone knows, being in shape is the key to winning easy.
Too true. He also looks soft in the body. If he has been skipping (no one knows as they would hush-hush it..) then he may find himself in trouble again. From the photos he does not look like he has had a long training camp.
What are you talking about? My question was, who is managing Audley Harrison?
I thought this was a question about my comment regarding Hatton - too slow.
Harrison manages himself. I thought he might have hooked up with Frank Warren. Hence your post. But looks like I got it wrong.
EDIT: Your right, Harrison is also moving along far too slow.
He souldnt have tried to wrestle with Hatton. I think Tszyu realized this after the fight "never so tired in career". He should have stood back a bit and not fought so close. He could not get off his right hand becase Hatton was smothering too much. He should have tried to get a bit of distance and keep Hatton from rushing in.
No. Its not going to happen.
It would have greater appeal in England or Australia.
That said, I would like to see a rematch, but I don't think it will happen. They will both move on.
As far as Hatton goes: too slow. 39 fights/wins and just become a world champion? WTF! That is very slow. Kostya has only had 31 fights and countless championships. Hatton has been defending his WBU (who?) belt for the last 5 years. IMO he has been bought along too slow.
Here you are Golden Kid:
From Crikey.com.au Recent Crikey article
Regarding Kostya and Mundine:
"It's easy to be blasé about a truly great boxer who while Russian born, has fought his entire professional career as an adopted Aussie since arriving here in 1991 and having his first professional fight in 1992. But now he has his family roots and citizenship firmly established in this country, and he's been a wonderful ambassador for his new home. He's been a world champion for more than a decade and unlike the joke called Anthony Mundine, has never ducked taking on the best and knocking out 12 of his 15 world title opponents in that time."
I saw him in an interview at the Tyson website from yesterday and he looked in great shape to me. Compared to when he was training to fight Williams.
I am just going from the photos (posted link) that were taken yesterday. From what I can see he still looks like he has some work to do!
good on ya kessler. mundine stinks!
and i am $50 richer! yipeee
Oh my god! Its not just me!
The Golden Boy -> go put your rose colored glasses back on!
Check out the tyson site (thanks to McKay) there is a video of him sparing. It looks like a very soft sparing partner. I really hate to see him sparing someone so soft. Not a good sign.
Tyson site
I am hoping MUNDINE wins, and I predict that he will win by a close decision. For all you Mundine haters who are Aussies, shame on you.......
Mundine is a Jackass. Australia has dis-owned him. He is a disgrace to boxing and a disgrace to the country. He would be one of (if not) the most hated people/person in Australia. He has a big mouth and he can't back it up. He should get in the ring with Danny Green. Green would KO him by 2. He is a complete pu$$y. Wont even do the Green fight for a million bucks. Everyone in Australia wishes he would go back to rugby - although I think rugby fans think little of him too!
6 Weeks isn't even close to the time it takes to hand pick an oppnent that can't beat Tyson, then sign it, then promote the pay-per-view.
I will second this. There is no way it will happen in 6 weeks. That is unthinkable. He (Tyson) is thinking he is 18 again.
svsv, you are a jackass. He just talks shit in the ring to put on a show and try put his opponent of his game. He is always gracious and respectful to his opponents after the fight.
How quickly people forget. I guess you have been hit a few too many times. Remember when we dis-owned him as a country when he publicly disgraced the country after the WTC incident??
"gracious and respectful to his opponents after the fight" - Only because he gets his ass kicked so bad he does not want to have to watch his back in the car-park! :boxing: Does not say anything about the guy.
He is a public disgrace. He is no Ali. He thinks he is. Take a look at Kostya. Mundine brings the sport into disrepute. I am glad he is packing his bags for Rugby (thats if they will take him). I hear the majority of people in Rugby hate him as well. The country as a whole dispises the guy. Infact your the first person from Australia that I have ever heard breathe a good word about him.
Your either:
1) An indigenous Australian
2) Have no idea
3) All of the above
I have nothing against indigenous Aussies - they are the only people to have a legitimate reason to like Choc.
The 120-108 score was from the Netherlands judge and it was absolute bullshit. The most accurate scorecard was 116-112. I had Mundine taking the first 3 rounds as Kessler started slow and then getting a couple in the middle. It was a fight he could have easily won had he let his hands go. All he did was throw jabs with the occasional 1-2 while Kessler was throwing 5-6 punch combinations
Here we go... Kessler DOMINATED him. He has achieved nothing in his boxing career. Infact I think he has discredited the sport. Its people like him that make the average Joe think that boxing is a sport for thugs. THIS HURTS BOXING!!!
As for the Green fight, Mundine would dominate him. Kessler couldn't hurt him and he has way more power than Green. There is no way Green would outbox Mundine over 12 rounds, Mundine is a much better boxer and 10 times faster than Green.
I am laughing so hard I am nearly choking! Get real. Green would kill him. Mundine has a glass jaw like his old man. Remember his old mans world title fight? KOd when he was way ahead and couldn't loose. Mundine JR is the same. Glass jaw. No power. Hell he can't even box. He can run, but he can't box.
For someone that has achieved nothing. Can't box. He could keep his mouth shut and stop bring the sport into disrepute.
WHY WONT HE FIGHT GREEN? THEY ARE/HAVE OFFERING/OFFERED A LOT MORE MONEY THAN ANY OF HIS FIGHTS?
IMO Ray was one of the greatest ever. He was just so smart. Had excellent movement, such fast feet. He really knew how to close the deal. He was just amazing to watch. A great entertainer - remember that wind-up against Hagler?
He fought the best and beat them all. IMO he is an inspiration and one of (if not) the greatest of all time.
He is looking 230-235, in the last photo you can see him and he has a bit of a pudge going on. He looks rather soft in the arms as well, but who knows and who cares Tyson doesnt need to come in 100% shape against Mcbride.
I am sure you would have said that regarding Williams too. Tyson is his own worst enemy.
Tszyu had double the am fights Hatton did, Hatton turned pro at 18 so a lot of the early fights where just him becoming a man.
Tszyu had a long amateur career. Too long! 270 fights and world champion. That can really spoil a pro. Lucky it worked to his advantage. I would say that if Hatton had 135 amateur fights he would have been a man, and should have moved up a lot faster (not taking anything away from him).
pressure too much
and those huge body bombs dont help your stamina either ;p
He is getting old. Its like saying Tyson is the same fighter now as he was when he was 18. Big difference. Age. Just like DLH, Trinidad, Chavez, Leonard, Duran, Hearns etc.. Need more? All aging champions with great legacys going out in a bad way. Its boxing. I thought Tszyu was smarter than this!
What is wrong with you lot? Ricky Hatton won the fight far and square!
Why would you try to put down his tremdous victory?
That he did. Even Kostya will tell you he did ;) Hatton fought a great fight. Had an excellent game plan. Stayed in close to avoid the big right hand. Some excellent strategy executed to perfection. He roughed up Tszyu like Tszyu had done in so many of his fights. Hatton beat him at his own game in many ways. And this is coming from a Tszyu fan ;)
hatton and his camp should consider themselves lucky that tszyu is 36 and not that motivated to continue on fighting........
i say this because i am sure if tszyu's camp made an official complaint to the IBF, that it would have a lot of backing from observers and experts to at the least order a rematch....
but i'm sure tszyu won't do this because he is most likely looking at retiring anyway.
Its not likely they will lodge a complaint. I think Tszyu has at least one big money fight left in him!
are people actually going to buy this joke of a fight?
Nah I will not be buying it. I will however be watching the news eagerly! I would like to see him come back. This may be the first step, or yet another fall. We will see ;)
I at least want him to make some money for his retirement!
The man managed to blow over $200,000,000. I find it hard to worry about his retirement.
I am hoping this is one mistake he has learned from! I have my doubts given his history.
So the point Im tryin to make is if he can come in under 230 or so, McBride is dead, If over 230 he will tire quickly like in the Williams fight, and who knos what will happen, I think if he would have come in at 225 against Neilson he woulda got a early KO, He was 222 against Golota, then blew up to 239 against Nielson. If he was 225 or so against Lewis it woulda been more competitive. So I hope he can make it under 230, if not i dont see him competing with the Top heavys except Ruiz, and Toney who is overwieght himself. If he can make it to 225 and stay that way for a few fights, I think he can become champ again. And will!!
Yeah - right on. I think the weight tells a lot about his training schedule and if he is taking things seriously. He has almost lost his window of opportunity in the division. So lets hope that we see some positive signs before he steps into the ring.
I wonder how Jeff Fenech is going training him and keeping him to the schedule? Any inside info?
I've always been curious about this, does 5 pounds really make a difference? I really don't see how it's such a small amount?
The difference it makes is huge! Its all about training, commitment and dedication. If he is coming in even 5 pounds over what is premium weight, it clearly shows he has been compromising somewhere along the line which will cause headaches for him in the ring. Tyson is a party animal that is well known for missing his training sessions. The issue is that now he is way to old to be doing that and compromising when he has slowed by virtue of his age.
You can doubt it, mate, but I remember being surprised that Tszyu's camp asked for one.
Why again? This is/should be standard stuff! If I am the champion, I am confident but that does not mean I am betting my entire net assets on it! It seems very logical that every Champion vs challenger fight would have a rematch clause.
If the money was EXCELLENT and being offered by the challengers camp then I could half fathom no rematch clause.
Tszyu had everything to loose. Hatton had nothing to loose
