Bunch of BS you just typed.
Bad guys never win? Is this your logic?
See OJ Simpson, Terrell Owens, Brandon Marshall, Lawrence Taylor....and the list goes on. I agree it's not good tobe that way in life but the truth is in sports, it makes no difference.
What matters is talent and the way our society is, that's what's more important.
I don't think Shekwan was implying that bad guys don't win. His opinion had more to do with sportsmanship. I'm sure you played some sort of team ball so I don't think I don’t think I need to elaborate on the subject.
OJ, TO, LT are all HOF's in my book. However compared to other HOF's like Rice, Emmit Smith, and Steve Young are HOF's on and off the field. That’s probably why Young is still on Toyota commercials and Emmits still doing just for men commercials way past their playing days while OJ and LT are enjoying retirement in prison.
Sports is entertainment. What you find entertaining is subjective. If you value flash and brash more power to you. Unfortunately sports is more than just entertainment.
Shekwan, best post of the day bud. Nice change from all the PED trolls on this board.
Maybe a person with a boxing show should remain less opionated and help listeners develop their opinions instead of pushing his own opinions down their throats. Try it sometime you might increase the amount of listeners on your show. If increasing the number of listeners is'nt your objective then more power to you. gotta respect a guy that sticks to his guns. It's your show, run it the way you want.
Glad you have a sense of humor bud. Just wondering, would'nt it serve you better (get more people listening in to your show) if you tried to remain neutral when it comes to boxers. Even fighthype which predominantly writes negative storylines about Pac has turned a leaf. You put alot of effort in analyzing numbers and including critical thought in your posts. IMHO You would get alot more listeners if your opinions were not so slanted.
Yeah Pacquiao needs to man up and deal with the consequences of his actions..
KEY POINT:
He knows Anotonio Margarito is a piece of sh!t, however this is nothing new.
At no point in time has Margarito shown repentance for his crimes.
Yet, Pacquiao rewards this criminal.
As a result, this amnesty he granted Margarito to fight and speak on the world stage will not be seen as an act of giving a man a second chance at reconciliation but of capitulation as a representative of the country of the Philippines to the perpetrators of violence of the world. Emmanuel Pacquiao, should have been the voice screaming not this time. We cannot tolerate nor will we accept this brazen crime against humanity, especially with the world watching.
Instead, just like he did with his sister, he is aiding and abetting a criminal just for a cheap profit.
Reconciliation requires repentance Emmanuel. At no stage, however, has Antonio Margarito repented the extremely seriousness of his crime.
Alot of thought and effort was required to write that letter. Why did'nt you ask him to open a twitter and facebook account while you are at it?
dumb floyd fans, freedom of speech is allowed, the government wont put you in jail for it. But the accused have their right to defend themselves. Its no suprise you guys cant distinguish the two.
look up McCarthyism and the consequences that followed it
Good point about ditinguishing rights of freedom of speech and Pacs right to defend himself. Not all Floyd fans are dumb tho bro, I'm a fan of both these fighters and alot of floyd fans I know can grasp this concept. They just dont post on forums which is unfortunate because it would lead to more open minded debate.
That was 1 of the weakest & most self righteous moves in history. Imagine if Frazier had took Ali to court for slander. lol B!tch move.
Frazier was mocked as an unskilled boxer and uncletom. I agree that a slander case would have been a bitch move. However I dont recall anyone on Alis team calling frazier a cheat. All professional boxers are businessmen fighting other businessmen in a ring. The business accused of cheating is then asked questions about alegations of cheating for several months which leads to its decline in stock due to bad publicity.
Lets say you didnt get a promotion because someone said you cheated the system. Wouldnt you try to defend yourself legally by trying to recoup the potential earnings lost for your family? Or are you the type to call someone a cheat so the other guy wont get the promotion? Which one of these scenarios is really is really a bitch move?
I dont think Pac can get much from this lawsuit. However legally defending himself against false allegations is his right just as much as it is anyones right to call him a cheat without evidence.
I belive OST should be incorporated in all profesional sports. Although its not required in profesional boxing, Pac unfortunately has to take these tests to clear his name not because hes dirty, but hes falsely accused of being dirty. The Maywethers get what they wanted by discrediting Pac and making him take the tests.
However, if Pac drops the lawsuit then this whole fiasco was just for publicity and we all took the bait, hook line and sinker.
No disrespect. But I've been noticing a lot of new posters here lately.
None taken,
I like both fighters, I supported FMJr against De La Hoya and Corrales, supported Marquez during his fight with Mayweather (even though I knew FMJr would win). Supported Pac on all his fights. More importantly I support Boxing
You lost any credibility you had in the second paragraph. Nothing you said after that matters. No one on Floyd's team has made accusations against Pacquaio. Mayweather Sr. is not part of Floyd's team. All the accusations are coming from Arum, Roach, biased boxing writers and the people on this message board.
My objective wasn’t to sway you in your opinion. I only agree that Pac is doing right by filing a case against GBP, FMP and Sr.. I would do the same if roles were reversed. However since you believe the roles are reversed do you think Floyd has a better claim than Pac?
And not only that, the Pacman's Lawsuit may eventually drain Pretty Boy's bank account completely out. Poor Floyd, he loses in a big way! :nonono:
Ladyfan,
I agree that Team Mayweather can lose a lot. I believe that money makes his world go round. Could you imagine what it might be like if someone who he and his family despises takes his money. Regardless if it’s a significant amount or not, it’s the principle that matters.
Nope! If Manny Pacquiao has improved so much then he should
just give Juan Manuel Marquez another fight and a comfortable
weight for Marquez and show what he can do this time. Wouldn't
that make the most sense? Because out of all of Pac's potential
match ups, Marquez has the most interesting story and great
hype and build up. Pacquiao saying Marquez is not a good fight
and won't generate interest/money is a cop out because that is
clearly not the case.
I totally agree that a JMM trilogy at a comforatble wt would be profitable. Probably more so than Pacs last fight with margarito. Too many angles to build this fight: unfinished business, last 2 fights were close, 2 great fan bases. I disagree with pacs assumption, I don't think he's coping out but I think there are so many options that he can't make appropriate forecasts to w/c fight is more profitable. This is evident in team pacs varied opinion in who he should fight next (mosley, berto, alexander, JMM). Hopefully someone in Pacs team can show him this is the most profitable fight outside of the mayweather fight.
However, what do you think is a comforatble weight especially since both fighters fight night weight (rehydrated weight) was in 145-148 range for their most recent fights?

:bottle: :bottle:
Nice pic. Really shows an interesting comparison of fight night weight
Boxers:PacJMM
3/15/2008Day B4129130
3/16/2008Fight Night145141
11/12/2010Day B4144.6
11/13/2010Fight Night148
11/26/2010Day B4134
11/27/2010Fight Night145
Regardless of which weight is chosen 140 or 147, Pac will still weigh 147-148 on fight night.
Ironically this is only 2 to 3 lbs more than he weighed the night they last fought 2 years ago.
IMHO Might as well make it for Pacs welter weight title
More like "OBSESSED CARD".
I can understand some people not liking pac and actually think he's a coward, a lier, a cheating husband, etc. But to cut and paste several paragraphs hating on pac over and over and over again, for days on end, on several threads, even sometimes on threads not talking about Pac at all, now that's obsession.
I myself don't think highly of floyd, but i don't make it a point to bash him every chance i get. Heck, i even compliment the guy once in a while cuz in spite of his character, the guy's insanely talented.
some people here actually make it their purpose in life to hate on pac. like they're actually paid to do it. Now that's just plain sad...
It seems that with all the positive media coverage (Pac) and negative press (Floyd) over the past few weeks, some of the hard core Floyd supporters have been working overtime typing up novels, while some of the hard core Pac fans have taken a vacation. No pun intended.
Thank you.
I think many of the non-Pacquiao fans still wouldn't want to acknowledge Pacquiao's leaps and bounds. They still think of the old status quo when the last time Pacquiao fought Marquez.
Geez.
If that is the case, then why wouldn't Marquez try the same thing and venture into the heavier weight divisions? Answer? Because he cannot compete on heavier weight divisions. He cannot take their punches and cannot hurt bigger fighters. Simple.
As with the immediate future, I have created on MY TAKE ON PACQUIAO'S RADAR thread...
I think that in the light of your questions, ALL BOXERS POSE DIFFERENT CHALLENGES to Pacquiao. Everyone is a test. Even Marquez is still a test albeit more predictable now because WE HAVE A REFERENCE POINT FROM TWO PREVIOUS FIGHTS.
As with the others, Pacquiao right now is simply dominating that the only fighter who could really test Pacquiao is MAYWEATHER.
Now I will not go low so far as to just pick Pacquiao all the way and simply refused to be labeled into these FLOMOS-PACTARD feud. My joy is to watch the fights and see them without due allegiances.
I have created a thread also (long written posting) of MY TAKE WITH MAYWEATHER V PACQUIAO THREAD for details.
:)
Looking forward to reading that thread Fabie. Since I'm a newbie and dont know how to find older threads, it would be much appreciated if you can reply with a link.
Thanks guy
As a boxing fan I believe that Shane deserves a final payday after all those great wars during his career. Yet the true 2nd best option for the sport is a trilogy between Pac and JMM. JMM is one of my favorite fighters and it’s unfortunate he doesn’t have the persona to draw in casual fans. This guy is one of the greatest Mexican warriors ever, yet an unproven fighter like Canelo can draw more fans.
Unfortunately every fighter will have to bid against other fighters when negotiating with Pac, with Floyd being the only exception. JMM has 2 close fights with Pac w/c is his only bargaining chip. Yet he fails to realize that he’s bidding against other boxers. He’s also promoted by GBP and their rivalry with Top rank is not ending anytime soon. Finally his obsessive behavior towards Pac is destroying his chances as his tactics to land a fight just seem childish and offensive to Pac.
In the next round of negotiations JMM will have to bid against Berto, and Bradley/Alexander all non GBP fighters who will bid accordingly to their market value. I just hope that JMM learns from this bidding experience if not, Pac’s next fight after Mosley is another one that’s good for business and not good for boxing.
Even if the fight was at 147, Marquez can weight 141 should be no problem anyways since Pac came in at 144 for a 154 title fight...
Marquez needs to just take this offer if he wants to get the beat down.
glad you could make out the numbers. Cant figure out how to make columns when posting = newbie lol
I think I do understand your position.
Pacquiao in his recent fights have been mixed-intentions of making money AND unprecedented legacy. Who would blame him for the ludicrous amounts of money he's been getting?
I am not defending everything he does and when it pertains to Marquez, sure he gave him his stiffest challenges in his career. But I also thought that he has gone miles and miles ahead of his old ways of fighting.
I used to "curse" at him while watching him fight Morales (1st fight) and whenever he fights Marquez with his uber-predictable JAB-JAB-STRAIGHT LEFTS. Over and over.
But if anything I have never seen so much transformation and progress in a boxer. I've been watching a lot of boxing likewise and saw THRILLA IN MANILA at an early age of 8ish/9ish that left an indelible mark on my psyche that led me to love the sport of pugilism.
I actually "hated" Pacquiao's style and would opt for the sweet-science of boxing a la' ALI. And now seeing that in Mayweather in how he defend, his pull-counters and his shoulder-rolls. His distancing, his pivoting and uncanny timing.
But I cannot deny Pacquiao's awesome progress and into a wrecking machine that reminds me of Aaron Pryor as he dismantles one of my favorites in Arguello.
And so for the Marquez and Pacquiao III, I really think that Pacquiao would annihilate him. Simply.
As usual nice analysis Fabie,
I agree that Pac has made several improvements since his last fight with JMM. I think he always had the Rt hook, combo punching, body punching, uppercut, and defensive head movement ala mike Tyson in his arsenal but Roach made him focus on his strengths earlier in his career w/c were the straight Lt, double and single rt jabs.
The developments I've seen are improved foot work, punching in angles, ability to see/expect punches coming which has improved his ability to take a punch, 45 degree RT hook/upper cut, short Lt Cross, and lead Lt Straight. Over the past 2 years Pac's ability to combine all these skills has made him a far superior boxer/slugger than pac in his days as a feather wt.
As such, even though I think Pac would destroy JMM, I think JMM will be a more exciting fight than any of Pacs recent matches.
As an avid boxing fan as yourself, would you want to have an actual point of comparison to pacs development and test his new skills against the same legendary opponent or do you think fighting: berto / bradley / alexander / moseley is a more appropriate test of Pacs improved skills?
I think at 140. Marquez only goes up 5lbs and Pac comes down.
Pac only weighed 144 for Margarito, so he should be able to make
that comfortably. On top of that. Having it at 140 is also a good
opportunity to set up a fight with Alexander/Bradley or Maidana/Kahn.
If Team Pacquiao can't see the Marquez fight is the
best fight then something is wrong with their business
sense. Marquez/Pacquiao has a HUGE opportunity to
sell well.
140 sounds fair. JMM will tag Pac with precise counter combos at any weight.
what is your opinion about this scenario:
since both fighters rehydrate to 145-148 on fight night, why not make it a welter wt chapionship fight. Both guys dont have to dehydrate to make wt, both guys will weigh the same on fight night, and JMM can take Pacs title?
Either 140 or 147 is a fair fight to me since they will both weigh the same on fight night. But I see more advantages for both fighters at 147. I would like to see JMM have the same advantages pac has like eating breakfast and lunch before weighing in, and not having to stress or dehydrate to make weight.
