MGM Grand, Las Vegas - At the Juan Manuel Marquez-Michael Katsidis post-fight press conference Juan Manuel Marquez unveiled a new custom t-shirt that read "I beat Manny Pacquiao twice." Marquez doesn't see why Pacquiao can't meet him at a catch-weight of 142 or 144. A member of the media told Marquez that Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach told BoxingScene.com earlier this week that Manny will not be fighting at any catch-weights and that any fight would have to be at 147 pounds.
Marquez said that it sounded like Team Pacquiao was making more excuses to avoid a third fight with the lineal lightweight champion.
"They are just making more excuses to prevent a fight. If Manny comes up with more excuses to not fight me then he must just be scared."
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer then addressed the media by saying that he would immediately look into making a third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
"I don't expect Bob (Arum) call me. I could wait forever and he wouldn't call me. I will however call Todd (duBoef) on Monday and see what the chances are of making the fight."
After the press conference BoxingScene caught up with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and advised him that we ran a story earlier this week where Arum said that he would look to negotiate terms for a Marquez fight but that they would not do a co-promotion and that Top Rank would run the show alone.
When asked if Golden Boy would be willing to make a third fight under those conditions Schaefer responded by saying - "I don't think it is wise to negotiate through the media. Obviously I would talk to Top Rank and listen to their offer and see if we can make an agreement that suits us. I also need to talk to Juan (Manuel Marquez) and get his input. If I gave an answer now before starting negotiations I guess I wouldn't be a good negotiator (laughing). That is a fight we really want to make and we will do our best to make it."
