Unfortunately, there are fans who are consumed with race.
I was watching Mayweather vs Canelo at a crowded and rowdy sports bar. When the cameras showed Broner was in attendance, a bunch of people, myself included booed at Broner. Then, a couple of African Americans gave us dirty looks, like they wanted to fight us all because they were the same race as a piece of trash like Broner.
It's almost as if they don't realize Broner has built himself up to be disliked by wealthy and successful individuals. It's what he wants, it's how he portrays himself. He caters to the "urban" crowd who don't seem to grasp the concept that these guys get boo'd not because of their skin color, but rather due to their actions in and out of the ring. Broner is no ambassador of the sport so to get offended at him being boo'd is a sign of being too emotional.
It all makes sense now.. It's really Floyd's boss Al Haymon who commands Floyd demand that Pacquiao abandon Top Rank
And to join Mayweather Promotions.
Those are Floyd fans, they as per default don't like fighters who come to fight.
Is it just that though or could it perhaps be a race or nationality thing? I notice they don't like any foreign fighters unless they're from Cuba and have African features. And while supposedly being fans of the "sweet science" they don't even like the technical boxers that aren't African American like Algeiri or Vazquez. The "slick" moniker doesn't seem to apply to them for some reason but they're quick to give it to Bey and Broner.
Sergy Kovalev seems like he doesn't get a lot of hate.
Oh he does. By people like Assassin#1, Big Dunn, BobbySmurda and so on. Pretty much all of the floms. No need to second guess.

For me personally, style preference is not a big deal. I prefer guys who bring the action but I'm not opposed to watching say a Hopkins vs Dawson as long as it's on a channel I have.
I do however get more gratification when the ****y "villain" gets beaten up and knocked out. To say I wasn't celebrating after Broner vs Maidana would be an outright lie.
Perhaps Terrence Crawford? Sure he was labeled boring but after Gamboa that tag has been removed.
I was gonna say Lomachenko but there's probably a ton of bitter Russel Jr fans on this forum. There's always that lot that doesn't give any respect to white Russian or European bred fighters.
Kind of like how you call Floyd, Rigo, and Ward boring and feather fisted. Your bias is so transparent. Pot meet kettle...big punchers are always overrated, especially on this site i.e. Lucas Matthysse. Why does it even matter what style a fan likes? I'm a big Mayweather fan but I'm going to the Golovkin fight this weekend.
big punchers are always overrated
Pot meet kettle
Think you just made my point there.
Matthysse was billed as this menacing beast who was supposed to decapitate a Garcia who according to most posters here isn't that good. How did that work out? Don't make me bump some of those stupid Garcia Matthysse threads. Lucas has 0 elite wins. He's beaten nobody, Peterson is decent at best. GGG and Kovalev are still unproven. We have yet to see what they look like against elite competition. I'm going to see GGG because I can.
So now they're no longer overrated hype jobs, rather they're unproven. Ok I see your point now.
Honestly there isn't a fighter alive or dead that doesn't get bashed on here
The only type of fighter I could see not being disliked has to be someone who can box on their toes but also have power and bring the action. He must not have a criminal record, but also not be squeaky clean (otherwise he'll be hated by "urban" fans). He has to have a little bit of swag to him but not over do it and not to appear too ****y.
There has to be a balance of the main components to whether a fighter will be liked/disliked: Style, attitude/demeanor, skin color, background.
I will say if it is true that he's taking up Roach as his trainer, that can only do him good in my opinion. The guy is just so damn boring, maybe Roach can teach him a thing or two about not being a running borefest.
Ugh, more racism by Cuban fans thinking only Mexicans think Lara and Rigo are boring. Protip, race is blind when it comes to boredom. I'm the whitest of whiteys you will ever come across and Rigo can sit his ass on foreign TV for the rest of his career for all I care. BoooooOOOOOoorrrrriiiingggg.
Duran I have not seen bashed anywhere here.
Calzaghe and Toney get bashed all the time, Calzaghe for his resume mostly, Toney for being a fat HW who refuses to retire.
They bring up No Mas quite often though.
Roach used to train him you obviously never seen Rigo fight smh at running bore fest Rigo is a master at bringing the ***** in the other fighter
What the hell is "smh"? I don't use that dialect. The only thing Rigo does well is put viewers to sleep. And by viewers I mean the 50 people worldwide that are actually willing to watch him.
I do not fall into those categories. I like all types of styles.
But I did not appreciate the way Mayweather took a big crap on his stellar life's work by excessively holding and running against Maidana in their rematch.
But you ever hear something like this? There's a dude in my gym. Competes amateur and trains very seriously. He's also a huge Mayweather fan. When I asked what he thought of Cotto vs Martinez, his answer was that he had no interest in the fight because he doesn't support Top Rank. That was probably the highest form of nuthuggery I ever encountered online or offline.
That's some pretty serial nut hugging I must admit. But I don't blame him entirely for not buying it if that's what he believes. His biggest mistake was not watching it altogether. There are ways to do it without supporting them financially. I refuse to support that dolt Stephen Espinoza and Haymon so I don't buy Showtime PPVs but I still watch them in perfect quality.
What point? Prove my post wrong.
Well firstly, Matthysse lost one fight and now he's overrated? (inb4 Judah and Devon)
I consider Golovkin and Kovalev big punchers, yet you claim they're overrated. Perhaps it's you that doesn't see the skill involved in what they do? How they set up their punches?
Why are you going to his fight if he's overrated?
Yes if your a fanboy
There appears to be a lot of them around these parts. I notice it's always the same people calling Kovalev and GGG "hype jobs" or "face first brawlers, no defense."
BigDunn, HanzGrumber, WESS, arraamiss, Assassin#1 among a few others.
Thats a crock , any fool can see a power puncher that comes to fight , to understand the Mayweathers and Rigos of the sport you need to understand boxing , lots of fans of Floyd , Rigo and Ward are fans of Manny , GGG Donito Katsides Rios etc , there are lots of fans of boxing , you confuse them with fanboys .
Nope, most Mayweather fans were laughing when Donaire got beat by Rigo. They've hated Donaire by default for some reason.
Kovalev TKO, won't settle for anything less. As long as the hometown ref won't allow BHOP to play dirty and constantly cry to him, Kovalev should have an easy night. My only concern is that BHOP specifically made sure not to have stringent drug testing in this fight, he'll be running in mostly likely a GIANT ring and won't run out of stamina.
Yeah this ignorant ghetto idiot should stick to his little cafe because he's clearly not cared for in boxing. He's willfully ignorant and anyone who supports him should be disgusted. I've also seen a few retweets on his timeline supporting violent acts upon Darren Wilson (the officer who shot the thug who attacked him in Furgeson) just because the officer is white. Disgusting human being.
If it was any other boxer this would have blown up and they would have been suspended.
These people are just being willfully ignorant by not admitting to Chris' good looks. If it makes you that uncomfortable to admit he's a handsome guy then you might be dealing with some insecurity issues of your own.
He's good looking, has a decent female following (without even doing anything), is humble and well spoken, he's White, he's tall, he eats well and works hard.
That's a star in the making, even better if he beats Pac.
^well said.
Some guys are so insecure, Algieri is clean, this guy really takes care of himself, is a family man, has good morals, ethics, has class, well dressed, handsome, probably smells good too with a nice cologne not too strong not too light. They can't admit the man is a possible star. Best looking man in boxing, Sergio Martinez is good looking but he looks beat up and rough from time to time like not healthy looking, Chris is clean as hell eats clean and healthy.
He is the best looking guy in the game right now, and people saying he is 30? so that is the the time Pacquiao and Floyd became superstars, they were 29 and 30 years old. Chris condition and clean living and defensive style can make casuals appreciate the sweet science, he is a humble guy with confidence through the rough and class.
He can box into his 40s if he wished the way he lives so clean and in condition like B hop.
True. I have a feeling people who claim appreciate slick boxing won't like him though for obvious reasons. He can draw in new fans though.
Prime Margs was a beast among beasts and I have enjoyed his career. He was falsely accused and it was clear as day to those of us who dug a little deeper into the situation. Mayorga, while fun to watch, would have gotten blown out by Margs.
Does anyone else follow him in IG? He seems like a super down the earth person.
And I'm not usually a fan of people posting their meals but he eats amazingly healthy and colorful meals. I wish I could have meals prepared like he does.
Kovalev said some **** and nobody gave a ****. What's your point?
Kovalev didn't say anything. Negro is not an offensive term outside of America. It's how they identify a black person, we use African American here. The way he used it was of the social norm. Plus a serial racist wouldn't have a black trainer, you know, the very guy who you put all of your faith into while fighting for your life.
If he was well educated and coherent it'd be a bigger deal, but since he basically made a career out of getting destroyed by "white bois" that he thinks are inferior, it's not really a big deal. On the other hand if it had been someone else to say that about black people, there'd be a huge backlash.
