I remember Kellerman saying a while back that Angulo would be best served by staying away from fighters who have slick footwork and boxing skill...And even if he would have beaten Cintron tonight, Martinez would have clowned him....
Anyway, it's on!
This has been a pretty uninteresting fight. Urango is definitely stronger, Berto is faster and the southpaw style of Urango just makes it an awkward fight for Berto.
I really think people are sleeping on Clottey. The guy gets very little respect in the media. I think he has all the tools to take this thing on points. Cotto may have a speed advantage, but Clottey can throw 1000+ punches a fight and he's faster and has better defense than someone like Margarito. I'm gonna go against the grain on this one and pick Clottey.
Am I the only one that thinks Williams can beat Joe Calzaghe?
Calzaghe is too big (weight-wize) but Calzaghe's main advantage (workrate) would be negated and he would have to use his slightly higher boxing IQ to adjust.
Williams is looking pretty smooth in there. Could you imagine what would happen if he had the power of a Tommy Hearns? The dude would be damn near invincible.
Winky is about to get sent back into retirement, this time permanently. I bet the naysayers will still have plenty bad to say about Williams, but I think the guy has been pretty impressive, looking good against a guy no one looks good against.
I really don't think he got away with it. People just dissmissed him as a moron for pulling the race card like that. Great fighter, but he can really say some ignorant $%#!. I mean I'm African-American too, and thought it was lame. Hopkins loves playing the role of badguy in a fight to get under people's skin. It worked against Trinidad, and worked against Pavlik.
Valero needs some more work on his defense (like tucking his chin) before fighting JMM. He definitely has the power to KO JMM, but if Valero came at JMM like he fought tonight (as spectacular as he look), he could get picked apart.
I really think it's a tie between Whitaker-Chavez and RJJ-Olympics. The RJJ debacle changed the face of amateur boxing in the world as they introduced that putrid point system after that. I remember watching the Whitaker fight as a kid and was incredulous at how blatant that robbery was.
Too bad Hearns inherited his dad's chin. He put up a good fight though. I think he'll get one more shot. I hate how people write off a fighter after only 1 loss.
I think Afolabi's KO of Enzo Mac was my KO of the year thus far.
Wow I didn't expect 2 KD's in the first round. I thought this would be a more competitive fight. Ah well. Donaire is gonna take this one in the next few rounds.
Donaire was really impressive. This was really an all-action fight card. Arum's done a pretty good job with these independent cards (well except the Cotto and Pavlik card).
