Peeps are acting like Cotto has won this already but this is a Big fight in its own right and is a tough pick IMO!
So vote who u think wins and id appreciate it if u could break it down why u think that lads, cheers
Heres my take it go's the full distance with Cotto taking a close but clear decision, it will be hard fough and gruelling at times, a better tougher version of the Cotto vs Ndou fight mabey.
Clottey is Rock solid and will not be getting stopped his defence is first rate on top of his naturall toughness even if his gaurd is a touch high at times, he can weigh up to 170lb come fight night and will match Miguel for strength. He is a good 12 round fighter as is Cotto and i think he may be the stronger man down the strech even if some feel he fades on here.
His uppercut is a worry as its a punch Miguel is open for (or if u beleive the shite on here the right hand, straight left and right hook! pfft) Up in close where this fight will be fought at times he has the strength and body work to trade with Cotto but Ultimatley i think Miguel Cotto will know when to box him from range, countering and stuff and when to mix it up inside with him, Clottey takes breaks and go's to sleep in fights and Miguel will capitalize on that, Cotto's variety, flair and greater imagination will see him through on points for a Quality if not spectacular win in a very good fight
Please share ur take
I re watched Margarito-Clottey last night and if Clottey can fight the same way he did the first 4 rounds against my boy Tony and add a little more pressure to his game plan I really see him stopping Cotto like a sack of hot shit, if he doesn't, then I see Cotto most likely winning on points which will be a shame.
Clottey needs to bring the heat big time, Im firmliy aboard the Cotto train and Expect a win here but im under no illusions this is a highly loseable fight for him
have you found/watched the gutierrez fight yet? Clottey really bangs with him in a kinda of you take mine now its your turn kinda way, not smart.
Shit forgot to look, im all over it tonight man. Cheers
Any new takes on this fight?

This fight to me is a close to a 50/50 fight. Both fighters have weaknesses that can be exploited despite the attributes that they have. Cotto has a tendancy to lean over with a bent over stance that Clottey can take advantages of with uppercuts. That is what he used to neutralize Zab at the end of their fight. The problem with Clottey is he a lot of times doesn't do a good job of mixin defense with offense. In that respect he is kind of similar to Chad Dawson but with a better chin and he is a solid pucher for 147. The time when he covers up is when Cotto needs to launch his body attack. Another variable is the kind of cut man that Cotto will have in his corner. That is where I thought Evangelista did a good job in the Zab and Mosley fights with those cuts inside his mouth.
Nice post Newbie, will be lookin out for more of ur posts! :boxing:
Clottey is a strong boxer/pressure fighter and he has not only fast but hard punches, and that will be what will get to Cotto who has tired late in fights and has shown noticeable vulnerabilities. Actually i would say that there's not a huge difference in power between Clottey and Corley who rocked Cotto.
I don't see how Cotto will deal with him not being able to land consistently, Clottey MAY be the best defensive fighter that Miguel will fight. That, i think will frustrate him and force him to take more chances inside, where Clottey is much more faster and accurate.
TWO things i think there is a big difference in power between Clottey and Corley in CLOTTEYS favour! But to be fair to Miguel he was drained at the weight and it was one of those weird temple shots he didnt see coming could have happened to anyone
Secondly Clottey IS the best Defencive fighter he will have fought IMO
Clottey's tendency to remain inactive during portions of the fight will hurt him, so I expect Cotto to take full advantage and outbox him while Joshua is busy impersonating a statue with his high guard up.
Also, it is important to consider how much the beating Cotto recieved at the plastered hands of Margarito will have taken out of him. We could well see a DAMAGED fighter that steps into the ring against Clottey. It remains to be seen.
Although I'm picking Cotto to win via UD, it will be a hard fought victory.
Solid post sir
Malignaggi was in the top three of the 140 lb division at the time, and held the IBF title. Jennings on the other hand was a hand picked tomato can that beat no one.
Malliagi was better but Cotto beat him too remember, i think his point was that Hatton and Cotto looked good coming back from defeat/a bad performance against non punchers which tells us nothing

How Clotteys style is bad For Cotto.?
I mean, Clottey will let cotto dictate the pace, and Clottey gasses out by the 6th or 7th round, everytime.
Not a volume puncher, let alone power puncher.
And Cotto have fought 2 guys with similar style as Clottey and both bigger than Cottom while this is the first time of Clottey fighter a boxer/Puncher like Cotto!!!!!!!!!!

doesnt even look like he was in a boxing match looks like a car accident..
very suspect looking damage
Well, he also ripped a dudes ear off. So its expected to me.
Anyways, Cotto would have had a chance IMO if he had a coach. Now he is stuck with a nutritionist. The gameplan just flew out the window.
Clottey wins by UD or late stoppage. Cotto cant tek his pounches.
cotto fighting jennings is like hatton fighting malinaggi...

You mean the same Malignaggi that Cotto couldn't put away? And the same Jennings Cotto put away in 5 rounds? Go figure, Paulie is obviously a better fighter
