it all seems to have faded away now, it's ridiculous imo and clear double standards need to be removed from boxing.
that one statement really tarnishes his entire career.
He got away with it because Blacks did not enslave Whites and ruin Europe through forced slavery for centuries.
At the same time, Hopkins closest people are from different Backgrounds, be it Black OR White, and is known to do things to sell the bout.
Not condoning what he said, but Go Figure
Hopkins was speaking to the underlying racial aspect of boxing when two people of different ethnicities fight each other.
Race has always been used to promote fights. Every ethnic group has people that cheer their favorite boxer of the same ethnic origin. Mabe it's because it makes them feel like their people are tough if their fighter wins (or maybe it's because people don't want to see their "own kind" get their ass kicked). Or maybe their lives are kind of empty and full of frustration, so claiming that the people of their heritage are the toughest SOBs to ever walk the Earth makes them feel good.
A black man fighting a white man sells because of history and the way some people think about race. It's obvious there's a minority of people here who enjoy seeing seeing different ethnicities get defeated in the ring.
Personally, I think being racist hurts you more than it helps you (life is short, do you really want to miss out on all the good things different cultures have to offer just because you're a close-minded hater?).
Sometimes I think the younger generations are removed from actual racism. It hasn't affected them directly, so they want to cry about who gets to say what. But, then again, everybody has their individual stories. Maybe some white people here have been called slurs, been racially profiled while driving or shopping or at the airport, been denied renting an apartment because of their ethnicity, been harassed by the cops simply because of the way they look or been denied a job because they are Caucasian.
The economy is f*cked right now. I wouldn't be surprised if racism starts getting stronger now as more people start dealing with fear, anger and pressure in a negative manner.
Why even bring this up anyway? if this is still under your skin then you're a little bit racist yourself.
Why are people arguing over equal racism rights?.
Why do people care what anyone says anyway?, that's how we got Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Neo Nazism and the New Black Panther Party.
If you take something that is fantasy "an opinion" as a attack on your person then you should look at yourself in the mirror and ponder why someones thoughts - "fantasies" give you such a hard time.
You create the world you live in.....................
Hopkins has always been a piece of shit, but in the last couple years, since about 2006, people are suddenly pretending to be his fans. He didn't have a single fan in the world around 2002-2004, now all of a sudden everyone is a Hopkins fan. Never understood that. I guess HBO just got behind him when he beat Tarver, so everybody else followed suit.
well I'll give you guys this: whites don't have an epithet as ugly as the "n" word so even 'honky' or 'cracka' isn't really as bad because it doesn't have the same connotations laden with hundreds of years of abuse and oppression. if a black dude calls me a honky or cracka i just laugh. i got called things like that and mayonnaise and 'tapioca' (lol) and i laughed with the black dudes because to me it was funny and not even all that derogatory/inflammatory/offensive as the "n" word which carries with it a certain level of vitriol and spite that has no equivalent in the world of epithets against whites.
Mad props bro!
Ive been called a wet back, spick, all kinds of shit and Im like you man I laugh at the shit. Good Post!

Nah, there is no double stipulation. Because when he did make all those white boy comments. Calzaghe bitch slapped his ass to a Victory.
the point still stands that japanese americans were obviously of a descent of an enemy to the country who had attacked america. whereas africans were obviously no enemy and didn't attack anyone prior to being enslaved. I think that's the point he was making.well what about the indians? What did they do to us?
"Reverse racism" is an interesting term. It acknowledges that normal flow of racism is from whites onto blacks otherwise you wouldn't need to point out that this is "reverse" racism. It's a flawed term as well since racism doesn't exist without power and therefore it can't be reversed from those without power onto those with power.
I'm not condoning what he said. It was wrong...though I think most people should realize that he said it for promotion. However, "losing to a white boy" doesn't hold the same effect as "losing to a black boy" because there is no power behind some a comment. It's the difference between hitting someone with a whiffle ball bat and a real bat. Both may have intended to cause damage but one obviously has a much greater effect.
That is entirely untrue and a common misconception. Which is why the term "reverse racism" exists in the first place. I agree that it is a flawed term, and shouldn't HAVE to exist.
Racism is the belief that one race is inferior to another.
There is no tangible, social economic power involved in racism. Racism is racism. Period.

Totally true.
It is not like White people have ever elected a black person into a hugely powerful office.
It's not like black people have any power.
Because Japan attacked American firstYou noticed how I said Japanese AMERICANS. If you were born in japan or related to someone born into japan and lived in America, you were put in concentration camps.
He got away with it because look at all the shit black americans have had to endure for hundreds of years so compare that to his comment and its like comparing the rolling hills in Texas to the mighty Himilayas (sorry for the typo)
Plus he is trying to hype the fight and he didnt say redneck or honky. Oh Im not black by the waywell... look at the crap we did to japanese americans, and they don't give a F5&^ anymore.
naw people can say anything they want too..if you dont like it..jump or stfu
I'd be willing to bet that you live in poverty, and you will continue to live in poverty because you're an idiot.
Huh? Do you even know what the term "reverse racism" even refers to?
No. Sorry racism is racism. The degrees of racism can vary greatly, but the concept is the same.

I think making a "criminal investigation" in someone calling someone black is taking it a little too far
Sadly you are wrong.

yep..if you aint gone do shit..shut the fukk up..thats how i feel
lol, I just lost a whole bunch of respect for you.
What a primitive mentality. You're going to be at the bottom of the food-chain the rest of your life.
He got away with it because (and I hate to admit this) us White men on the whole are utterly pathetic. We are timid and we take whatever shit is thrown at us.
I see it every single day in my neighbourhood. Now, I have a couple of great black friends and I think that anti-black racism is not only insidious but also unwarranted, but there is no denying that there are a disproportionate amount of racially motivated attacks committed against White men. In fact, last week my younger brother (aged just 15) was attacked and beaten up badly (his retina got detached, amongst other things) by three black men wielding baseball bats, who called the kid a "f***ing whiteboy" before they laid into him. The police are obviously trying to get the guys but they have said that it "clearly was not a racist attack". They did take his wallet, but it would have most definitely been declared a racist attack had it been the other way round.
If Joe Calzaghe had hurled racist abuse at Hopkins (say he called him a black boy) a criminal investigation would have been launched; and rightly so.
I would bet anyone my house that Hopkins actually still has some White fans! That is how pathetic we are.
As for those who say that huge numbers of Arabs enslaved black people as did some white people, then what about White slavery? What is in the past is in the past and Hopkins is a multi-millionaire who should know better.
