The ref is not responsible for keeping track of the 3 minute clock, although they do now get a 10 second left warning. If the fight had gone on and JCC had clocked MD into McLellan land with the next punch, the armchair refs would be demanding to know why Steele allowed the fight to continue. It's a no win situation for Steele, and as all refs should do, he protected the fighter first. He looked into Taylors eyes, something NOBODY else was in a position to do, and saw a beaten man that was not fit to continue.
I'm no big fan of Steele, but he saw something that told him MD was finished and continuing was too dangerous. Subsequent MD fights told us that he was indeed finished.
Agree 100% with your analysis. Taylor fought spectacular and was winning the fight. Yet at that moment in time, when Chavez pounded him in the 12th, Taylor lost his "boxing soul". You could see it his eyes. He was DONE! Too bad about the outcome, but Chavez never quit.
He ran from Pacquiao after getting an underserving draw. This man is a pansy. I don't care how talented he is, he'll never get a chance to be among boxing's best because he never fights boxing's best.
Wow!!! What a ignorant stupid ass comment you have just made! You are truly deserving of that bright red bar of yours. It takes big balls to get up from three crushing knockdowns in the FIRST ROUND and battle your ass back to almost shut the guy out the rest of the way. JMM may have fumbled the ball when he priced himself out of the immediate rematch, but in NO WAY is he a pansy.
ray "boom boom" mancini/Deuk-Koo Kim
Kim dies 4 days later of injuries sustained in this bout
Both Kim's mother and the referee committed suicide within 4 months following the bout.
and this is why 15 rounders was changed to 12
Yes, this was by far the most Tragic fight. It inspired the aforementioned chages to boxing, and a total of 3 lives were lost as a result. This was in every sense of the word...a TRAGEDY.
hattons shit at self promoting, hes too humble and down to earth, he lets his fists do the talking, id like to see him fight a couple of times in the states after hes mugged maussa
Dude... i love your AVATAR!!! HAHAHAH PRICELESS!!!
It's sick because it's amazing how little talent the guy has and how protected he has been and come so far.
He got really lucky against Zoo IMHO. He won't be so lucky next time.
Whoa dude, your WAY OUT OF LINE! I've been in the squared circle before and let me tell you that you can TELL Ricky Hatton throws some bombs to the body that would make just about any fighter out there shit himself. Luck Against Tzyu! Please, he made the proud warrior quit. He took his boxing soul that night.
I'm not really a Hatton fan (I was hoping for KT to knock him off the map) but i respect his game. He has heart, and no matter where he goes, that will always give him an edge to compensate for any lack of skill he may have.
NUFF SAID
Totally disagree, he has all the skill in the world but lacks heart. If he had heart to go with his skill, he'd of been fucking UNREAL.
Maybe i should defer on this issue to you, since you've obviously watched Hatton much more than i have. I have seen Hatton serveral times on SHOWBOX, and was impressed by his relentless aggresiveness. I may have confused "heart" for "adrelanie rush" as he always seems to want to fight for his Machester City crew.
Nevertheless, he is a tough-out for anyone in his division, including PBF.
Guys, the number one sport on average that pays the most is Baseball. You have your Arods, Carlos Beltrans, and Adrian Beltre's making 150 million easy....... There is no salary cap in baseball, such that the yankees payroll is in the quarter BILLION dollar realm this year.
But if Kellerman was there, why did they let Costas talk at all? He obviously didn't know what he was talking about. He even went so far as to say Chavez Sr. was known as the baby-faced assassin (Barrera). I miss Kellerman because he's so optimistic, and unlike the other commentators he doesn't depress me to listen to him talk.
Chavez had an aray of nicknames.... "El Gran Campeon Mexicano", "J.C. Superstar" ,and yes in his early years "the baby faced assasin".
Just as many of my fellow boxing fans have just stated, scoring in this sport is subjective instead of objective. Many judges prefer the effective aggressor even though he might not land as many clean shots (i.e. Johnson vs. Tarver), while others will often favor the fighters that land the cleaner harder shots (i.e. Morales vs. Pacquio) This way of scoring has led to many controversial decisions that have confounded us the common fan. I heard a great explanation one day as to why the fights often seem different to us on TV than live. There was an interview with a judge in the Chavez Taylor fight who scored the fight in favor of Taylor but much closer than most of us would have thought. He told the reporter that while Taylor was always the busier fighter throughout the fight, there were several rounds that Chavez's punches were much harder and powerful than any of Taylor's flurries. For this reason He Had Taylor winning by 4 rounds going into the final stanza. Still way ahead, but not nearly the shutout many were claiming. In all, Judging is way to subjective and at times is more inconclusive than vice versa.
Big Time
Looks like boxing scene has arrived to the show... Congrats are in order for all those that made this possible. Lets keep up the good work. :boxing:
Ay dios mio
Okay....Moonra"bochinche"69....just cuz ONE of Ring Mag's writers decides to comment on DLH's unblemished faced doesn't mean the whole mag is biased in DLH's favor. In fact only serious TITO nuthuggers such as yourself have to look at everystory to get at the Golden Boy! Don't hate becuase you have a tainted victory over him!!! Oh and Inactivity has more to do with Ring's rating of DLH over Trinidad.... Mayorga was a bloated welterwieght and a drunk punching bag, Cherifi was crap....Strum was a very underated fighter with piston like jab, and Hopkins is the king of Boxing....Edge DLH for quality of opposition over the last 2 fights.....Believe that.....
Tito sucks..... cuz of biased fans like you and your cohorts!!
Hmmmmm....quality of oppostion
Okay, i admit i'm shocked to find out that PR has an edge...yet when i look at this closer i see some fatal flaws in the PR champs. Many of the Mexicans beaten in these "championship fights" don't seem worthy of title fights. In fact, i've just looked back at some "championship fights" of these PR champs , and found that many challangers had records way below .500 and not worthy of even being in a title fight. IMO Mexican champs have beaten better PR contenders than vice versa. It seems that a couple of farmers from Chiapas were plucked out to be mandatories to these PR Champs. Yet i'm still impressed by the research! Maybe i'll research this theory later on!
Tito..arrrgghhh
Hopkins is too old for a legitimate rematch with Tito. As we all saw with the Eastman Fight, Hopkins no longer posses the skills to finish and destroy an opponent. He can still box great, but i doubt he will have enough to keep Tito's pressure off him as he did in '01. Tito will beat Winky mainly becuase Winky poses no threat to Tito in regards to power. Tito will walk him down and might stop him. Yet, i'm still rooting for the upset. Tito should fight Sturm. Sturm posesses a shoutgun jab that will give Tito trouble all night! I doubt tito will reign in the 160lb division again.. in fact he might go up.
final say
Just wanted to make a final point on this thread. First off I’m kinda annoyed at some people for wanting to "delete" the thread. Must be some weak stomachs that can't take a serious post and analyze it. First off IM MEXICAN! I didn't particularly enjoy reading that my Puerto Rican brothers had an edge against "la Raza" in title fights. Yet, rather than cry and get sensitive about it I prefer to make a analytical statement: Even though its a fact that PR leads us in championship fights I think that there are too many variables to make the numbers reflect the ultimate truth. As I stated in an earlier post, I strongly believe that the level of MEXICAN opponents for the Puerto Rican champs is much less than vice versa. Why? Well simply put it’s a matter of numbers. There are many more Mexican Boxers than there are Puerto Rican fighters. Many Championship bouts that some of the PR Champs had against MEX were against Mexican challengers that were not worthy of title fights and relative unknowns. I stated this before, and I verified it on BOXREC.com but Moonra countered that Chavez's record should be tainted because of fighting taxi drivers. YES IT IS TRUE, Chavez did REALLY fight Taxi Drivers, but not in championship bouts. Only Dwight Pratchett was IMO an unworthy challenger to JC Superstar's title, but even that fight was very early in JC's title reign.
In parting, I would like to say to those who suggested that this thread be erased.....if the intended purpose of the thread seems to be going wayward, make a post to try and get it back on track...otherwise don't post against the thread if it's a well written and a good intentioned one!! There was obviously a lot of research done to post this thread, so I know this wasn't intended to be a flame thread!
Margarito
Cintron is a helluva fighter with good speed and power. Yet i doubt he will discourage the ever persistent Anotnio Margarito. Margarito has been in a lot of wars, has lost, and has faced adversity. To my recollection Cintron has been adversity free and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to AM's pressure. Great fight, and i can't wait. PR vs MEX one more time!!!
Yo, i agree that 50 bucks is kinda steep for this fight, but i think that these two guys have proven that they are action fighters. They have never been in fights in which they have not tried to press the action. Even if Morales does feel PAC's power he will never give up and run, he'll go down like a man if that's how its going to go down. I'm suprised the author of this thread hasn't realized that. Anyway, i'd much rather pay 50 bucks to see 2 true warriors than 50 bucks for one of DKP "Night of the Heavyweights".
r u Serious?
You guys are out of your minds! Mayweather will never allow himself to get into Gatti's type of fight. Not in a million years. He will box Gatti's ears off and counter while moving. He might even do what he did to Chico and bust him up with counters and then put him down. I see a close fight, but i see it going the same way that the JLC fight went (the second one). Mayweather by UD. Sorry Gatti fans, you guys are giving Gatti WAY to much credit and severly underestimating PBF. Didn't Gatti lose to journeyman Micky Ward (great fights though) and has fought Dorin, and old man Lejia? Gatti is all heart and guts, but i see overall talent winning this one.
Non-flame
Well my intention was never to create a flame thread, rather i was looking for comprehensive analysis on fighters from both countries. While i'm of Mexican Descent, i have many Puerto Rican friends, and i respect their fighters. I Don't like Tito, but i always enjoyed watching "chapo" cuz he was a bulldog. I don't like Barrera cuz he talks down to Mexicans who aren't from the D.F. (he called Morales a sixth grade drop out). For being a small litle island PR has a great ratio, but IMO Mexico eeks it out.
Wow, i hope this isn't for real. This guy is a completly shot and should not be contemplating a comeback. He lost badly to two fringe contenders (Mcline, and Guinn) and his chin is made of glass. I hope he isn't doing it for the money. God Foresake he ends up fighting someone like Tua and really gets hurt.
Morales
Pac-Man is Mega quick but fatigue will play an issue. I believe that Morales's ability to withstand adversity will allow him to take Pac-Mans best. Here is to hoping that it's a clear cut victory for the deserving winner....NO TITO DLH replay please (the decision part i mean :)
Sources?
Whoa, whoa, whoa! GBP is asking for options? Are you sure? You must be pretty connected to the inner workings of the Taylor camp to make a statment like that. I strongly believe that GBP will be a difference maker in the world of boxing in the positive sense. Hopefully they will take the lead in bringing back boxing to network TV and take care of the fighters. Like Oscar said, "The boxers are my boss". I hope that remains the case. Give GBP a chance before jumping all over them.
I heard he just fought in Argentina. That is a big no-no and a slap in the face to the commission that banned him from fighting WORLDWIDE. Oh well, hopefully he doesn't hurt himself.
Good God man, could you get off the Gatti Ward stuff!!?? No doubt that Ward has heart, guts, and balls but he was barley an above average fighter. Whenever he stepped up in compettition i.e. Zab Judah, Vince Phillip, he lost and lost handily. Branco was a tough out, but is he better than Jose Luis Castillo, and Carlos Hernandez...both PBF recent opponents. I can feel your passion for your man, but PLEASE research and think about what your saying before you claim that Gatti has better compettition than PBF. As for your "Gatti is the only light in this sport" comment, i'm sure Many Pacquio, Erick Morales, Felix Trinidad, and Marco Antonio Barerra would beg to differ. All these guys can sell out the house too.
Yo, thanks for the input. I guess i will have to see for myself, but from the looks of things it seems that Whitaker won that fight fair and square. I also believe that Jose Luis Ramirez, just got inducted to the Hall of Fame. The Whitaker victory (tainted or not) seems preety impressive.
I'm geared up for this one....i'm taking my RR just to fly down to Vegas and watch this mega match up! Even the philipinos over here are tyring to place bets with me. Manny is an above-par power puncher, yet i believe the Morales can keep him at bay with his superior boxing skills. I don't know if the pirde of "la zona norte" can KO Manny, but i sure as hell know that he can outbox him. GO TERRIBLE! I'll be there cheering!
Hey, that would be awesome to see all of Tito's knock outs! Can some one do DLH's? LOL... especially when he knocks down VARGAS! :)
BTW, i don't want to start a thread on this, but can someone tell me how you can download these videos? What are torrents and seeding? What are the quality of these videos and stuff. Sorry just a little Technology challenged. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
