Before the Margarito fight, there was a news item that said Manny Pacquiao co-promotes Chavez.
Marquez and Schaefer know they don't have a shot. Pacquiao and Arum would never hand over the lead promotion of a Pacquiao fight to Golden Boy Promotions by fighting a GBP fighter. Arum also gives Pacquiao more money and audience fighting in-house, and Pacquiao ---if Marquez and GBP has not realized that yet---does not reward taunts and insults with a big payday.
Whoever Arum will guarantee Pacquiao the most money ($15M minimum) is the one Pacquiao will fight. If it is not Mayweather, my guess is it will be Cotto.
This is typical Pacquiao negotiating. He wants big money for the Spence fight, the kind of money he thinks he could get from a McGregor fight. Probably will not get it.
Even with a 60-40 split, with the kind of money the fight generates, the loser would still earn much more than he ever had for a fight.
But I suppose Mayweather does not want Arum to profit even a cent from his fights, so all this 'solutions' are pointless. Arum just has to get out of the picture completely so the fight can happen.
Pacquiao has bigger wrists and thighs. Marquez is taller, with bigger fists, calves, chest and waist. They probably have similar walking weight of high 140s. So, if there's a smaller guy of the two it is Pacquiao.
When Pacquiao was a featherweight he could drop 20 lbs to make the weight limit. Now he would rather fight welterweights to avoid dieting and training hard and long as he used to.
Has pacman ever weighed over the contracted weight limit for a fight?
Yes, he did. Twice. First time, he was penalized with heavier gloves; the second, he was stripped of his title. He lost both fights---by knockout. Hope Canelo does not suffer the same fate.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't like the Manny Pacquiao fans too much. I feel that they are very arrogant and boast too much about his victories. This is kind of messed up. You don't see other fighters doing this kind of stuff. I think Manny himself is humble, but it's just his fans that piss me off. I hate the people that hang around him, they're are like mutha****in tag-alongs. They should be their own men.
That's how it is. While Pacquiao does his best to be likeable, his fans do their best to make him look like ****. But they are his fans and his problem.
Not going to happen while Marquez is with Golden Boy. Too much bad blood between Team Pacquiao and Dela Hoya/Richard Schaeffer for the 3rd fight to happen.
Martinez needs a fighter who brings enough $$$ to the table to make the fight viable--in this case, it's Barker. If Pirog brings little and asks for too much, then Martinez should duck him. If you want to lay blame on anyone, it should be on Pirog's manager/promoter, not on Martinez's.
Give Martinez a break. While Pacquiao is really a small welterweight, it is also a fact that he concedes in terms of weight and size for guaranteed money and a shot at another title. As a junior welterweight he conceded 5 lbs to Cotto for a welterweight belt. As a welterweight, he conceded 3 lbs to Margarito for a junior middleweight belt. It is okay for Arum to make catchweight proposal but Martinez or DiBella are out of line?
Basing on Pacman's reaction to blood taking (Morales fight), it might even take him more than 3 days to fully recover.
As for his Philippines training camp, Roach and Arum and Ariza had been complaining about the distractions, his condition and performance. I think you will see that in the Margarito fight.
Both Mayweather and Pacman are not using excuses (neither is afraid of the other). They just want conditions stacked in their favor. I mean both of them are known for that.
This fight coud still happen. You know, they could have random testing until a week before the fight. And then embed people in PacMan's camp to watch him 24/7 in the last week. Or maybe, if Arum and HBO shows him the money, Pacman starts geting used to blood-taking during training.
Yeh I don't think Pacquiao meant it like that he just doesn't agree
This is what happens when an inarticulate and simple-mided boxer and boxing journalist converse about a topic they really do not understand.
For Christians, nothing really wrong about Pacquiao's accept/care about 'the sinner' (gay person) but reject/hate 'the sin' (homosexuality) line. It is pretty much a standard Christian belief.
But for others, is this homophobia? Of course, it is. Whether the attitude is of the redemptive (Christian-Pauline writings) variety or of the punitive (Jewish-Leviticus) type, it is a negative attitude. Is it hate-mongering? While the intention is not, this posturing reinforces self-righteousness among Christians and their prejudice against persons of unusual sexual orientation. This is what Pacquiao does not get.
These warnings from Philippine doctors of the health risks of boxing is a constant, tired refrain. The writer is just using it to promote a Pacquiao-Marquez III. If the Pacquiao fans will swallow health risk argument and demand the fight, he thinks Pacquiao can be persuaded to accept a Marquez fight even if Bob Arum says he will get the least guaranteed money for it.
Not likely. Money Pacquiao and Roach said they will fight anyone for the right money. That puts Bob Arum in the driver's seat.
lol
If Pactards clamor for the fight, not the people who think he is ****, I think Pacquiao will oblige (example JMM) if Arum pays him. But I doubt that will happen. Most likely, it will be Bradley after JMM.
