I've seen lots of fights of Mayol, Calderon and Kyowa. In my observation, Calderon has the style, skills and the speed to outbox both fighters. A slick boxer would usually outsmart, outpoint the stalking big puncher. IMO a fight between Mayol vs. Calderon is a match-up of contrasting styles, favoring Calderon. Mayol-Kyowa will prove to be a more entertaining action-packed scrap, Kyowa is a very skilled boxer as well, but loves to slug it out...I reckon, they'll be in front of each others faces throwing leather.
My take on the upcoming Kyowa-Mayol fight on May 6th:
Mayol by middle rounds stoppage, or...
Kyowa by UD or late stoppage
Just my 2 centavos. Peace.
I like Arce on this match-up. Darchinyan is a hell of a puncher, but his defense is so porous, his chicken wings stance lol :D is just perfect target for Jorge's crunching body shots. Arce will eventually wear him down and stop him late.
one titles in two (soon to be 3) divisions.
was in the Fight of the Year 4 times.B]
won the KO of the year against ruelas.
is one of the biggest box office attractions in boxing.
doesnt dodge anybody.
gave three of the greatest fights in history.
has more heart than anybody in the sport.
has faced two of the greatest boxers in our era (floyd and oscar).
his resume is none too impressive and he has 7 losses. but gatti is good for boxing. hes a fearless warrior who gives the fans a good show while showing the heart and sportsmanship of a champion.
THAT'S what hes done, bitch.
You pretty much said everything I'd like to say mate.
Gatti-Ruelas is one of my all-time favorite brawl BTW.
Mayol had stamina for a 6-round fight only. When was the last time he lasted the full route? He fought a furious pace expecting Eagle to fold just like the previous opponents he's been knocking out one after another. The problem is - when an opponent just smiles back to your powerpunches and just won't go down, can you sustain your attack? Pacquiao is simply a freak of nature IMO, RE Barrera fight. I've read posts that Mayol employed the wrong strategy. I'd say it's the only way to fight Eagle - overwhelm him. Aguirre, Takayama, Bustos tried to box and brawl him at spots, but they were simply dominated and counterpunched all night.
As for Eagle, now we know just how tough and durable he is. His stamina is superb and his punches are so accurate. He's like a mini-version of JMM @105, excellent boxing and counterpunching skills. Never throws a single punch, always 2~3 punch combo with precision. He's the best @105 at the moment IMO, until Calderon proves this otherwise.
Now, let's have that unification fights with Kyowa-Niida-Calderon. :) BTW, IBF champ Rachman TKOd Soto, he deserves to be in this tournament.

I saw this fight. Definitely FOTY material. It was a phone booth war from start to finish, both fighters just throwing everything including the kitchen sink with complete disregard to defense and safety. Somsak was outgunned throughout the fight, but he's got a rock-solid chin, he kept on countering and coming whenever Mahyar pauses to take some breather. Mahyar is a relentless pressure fighter and just tries to overwhelm his opponents with a barrage of powerpunches from all angles, this time he couldn't stop his opponent who's like a sponge taking all his punishment. By rd. 9 Mahyar's all done, completely exhausted, he's just throwing pitty-patty punches at this point, while the Thai challenger still has enough energy to last another 3 rounds. On the fateful 10th rd, Mahyar was stunned by a thunderous left hook followed by 2 big overhand lefts sending him reeling on the ropes, Somsak punished him more with 5 unanswered left uppercuts, Mahyar was already punch-drunk, but the ref let 1 more big combo of right hook-left hook from the Singchatchawal before stopping the fight.
It was like watching Corrales-Castillo 1. Entertaining fight.
Bozo_no no, please hook me up with a DL link of this fight, I wasn't able to record this on tape. Thanks.
I will like Mayol to win because i will like to see mayol vs calderon that will be a good fight
Probably not gonna happen. I read somewhere that Mayol's team reckons that Calderon is a bad style match-up for him. But, they may pursue Iron Boy's WBO belt if they fail to beat Kyowa.
It's a pick 'em kind of a fight, both fighters are very capable of beating each other. Eagle has the advantage in world championship fight experience and a fine technician, but Rodel has that 1-punch equalizer.
Eagle Kyowa, in an interview here, has said that he respects Rodel's power and he will try to box more. Use the ring and get the necessary points to win every round...he'll take it one round at a time. If Rodel gets frustrated and gets reckless, he'll take advantage of such mistakes and counterpunch him. He said that from the tapes he saw of Mayol, he noticed that all of his opponents were KOd with the left (hooks and uppercuts), so he'll just circle to his (Mayol's) rightside to nullify the left and jab him all night.
My take on this - Eagle wins by decision. But, I won't be surprised either if Mayols stops him in the middle rounds.
classic jab then followed by a straight, a la Lennox Lewis, Wlad Klitschko and Pacquiao (lightning-quick straight left)
double left hook, to the liver then to the jaw, followed by a right straight, JMMarquez and Barrera executes this perfectly, simply a beauty.
Pongsucklek is good, if not the best in the flyweight division IF ONLY he's got the balls to prove that by fighting Arce who's been calling him out for the longest time, or Darchinyan, or even any of the top 10 contenders listed by the WBC. Tell me, when did he make his official title defense from a legit mandatory challenger? Yes, that was 3 years ago! The SOB is a very skilled technician who can whack, but the thing is - he's chosen to fight cab drivers who has no chance to beat him. The only fighter worth mentioning in his resume' is Malcolm Tunacao whom he blitzed in 1 round and Hussein Hussein whom he beat up years before Arce had his chance.
And he's being mentioned in the same sentence as Muhammad Ali now that he's broken Miguel Canto's record 14 flyweight title defenses?! WTF?!!!
whatever, it's your opinion, nothing more nothing less.. but its becoming obvious that this is a Darchinyan fan's plea in disguise
also i've never heard of a WBC #10 and WBC Continental Americas bum before...
btw, i have nothing against Vic, i'm a fan of his as well.
Morales was rated #20 before Pong's supposed mandatory against Myekeni of South Africa. To cut the long story short, Myekeni was perceived as a threat and was dropped, and this cab driver was elevated by the conniving WBC to #10.
Everybody made sure that Pong's record-breaking feat won't be spoiled. After all, this is in honor of the King's 60th anniversary.
Cotto in my opinion can handle Cintron, his excellent boxing skills, tight defense, poise, power and accuracy will negate whatever size advantage Kermit has on him. Kelson Pinto is about the size as Cintron and he's got power on those gloves as well. Cotto patiently and systematically dismantled him.
I agree mOOks.
BoxRec has listed the 26th of February 2005 as the WBA & IBF Featherweight championship showdown between Pacquiao and JMMarquez. Fightnews has that date also.
I just need you guys to look further than the west and give a second look eastward....
Five (5) champions.
#1-USA = 16 champs
#2-Mexico = 12 champs
#3-Puerto Rico = 6 champs
#4-Thailand = 5 champs
...2 Filipinos have been inducted into the IBHOF:
Pancho Villa & Flash Elorde.
...Pacman...
Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista
Z "The Dream" Gorres
...and Rodel Mayol I must add. More to come, hopefully. :)
Peace.
"Sigh". Espinosa was the great hope, before Manny entered the picture. Last I heard is that he is doing some scrappy fights in L.A. just to keep his working visa "live". Feel really sorry for the guy...
I feel sorry for him. Heard he got screwed in the Carlos Rios fight, the purse was never paid. Well, that's the world of boxing. :o
As for the Galaxy twins, Khaosai's name is in the IBHOF and a rich man...Khaokor's busy making people laugh on TV...they're happily driving towards the sunset.
Lewis KO Rahman. That was vicious. Lennox circling Rahman to the left, left hook...then the over hand right BOOM! The cracking sound heard all over the world. Timberrr.
Gatti KO Ruelas. After trading uppercuts, both warriors hurt...Gatti lands that big left hook, that was scary! That's Karma.
Pacquiao KO Chartchai. After a brilliant display of a boxing lesson for the NKOTB, Chartchai got hit with a lightning-quick straight left...didn't see that coming.
Espinosa KO Gonzalez. Not really a one-punch KO, but a devastating left hook-right straight combo. Cobrita looked like he drank a whole case of Coronas.
I would love to see this. I say Tsyu by KO in the 9th. i would rather see this then Gatti vs. Mayweather.
Gatti won't last that long vs. Zooo. Well, if he decides to do a Gainer-type of a performance.
Surprisingly easy fight for Kostya. Gatti's one tough warrior but you know his style, he gets hit a lot when on his punishing mode. It's gonna be like a Gatti-Ruelas fight (oh, how i love seeing them trading vicious uppercuts), this time it's gonna be a bigger & more accurate puncher in front of him. A short but exciting fight.
I think if Morales beats Barrera it will undoubtedly be him.
I agree. If Barrera beats him, then I think it's Chicco for a good performance vs. Casa and Freitas.
Comeback of the Year : It's a tie. Trinidad and Zooo
Michael Nunn's KO over Kalambay was pretty wicked (I think it was 1 punch)
Ike KO of Byrd
Foreman KO of Moorer
The shot Duran took from Hearns was freakish...I wonder how Hearns didn't break his hand after hitting Durans face that damn hard.
That shot by Big George was kinda robotic but still Moorer wasn't able to avoid it, i'm sure he saw that coming...must've underestimated its power and looked for a big counterpunch.
Re Hearns-Duran. It's amazing how the human body can absorb such punishment and recover.
KT-PBF
PBF could certainly outbox KT, but eventually he gets tagged by one of Kostya's precision punches...and down he goes. Remember Judah and Mitchell 1. ;)
BoxRec says it all, this Fahsan 3K has been feasting on patsies! Fighting guys with (4W-23L-4D), (25W-35L-2D), (15W-20L-6D), (16W-20L-3D) records! WOW! So much for "the Destroyer" hype.
