Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is good, but you'd think he was the best thing since sliced bread if you believed the hype. Maybe I'm wrong but the guy has power for his weight and seemingly good stamina, however he's very loose and gets tagged, its strikes me that he is going to get KO'd a few times in his career before he's done fighting at the higest level.
Before the barrage of replys come flooding in saying
bla bla bla bla... he's the best etc etc. Im not saying that he's not one of the best fighters in the division currently but he's hardly one of the greatest fighters of all time as some are attempting to make out
I know, right?
Absolutely. Seeing as you've probably seen Pac's earlier fights, you can see that used to throw vicous hooks to the body and head. I barely noticed him throwing straight lefts in the past. He used to knock out guys with his right hand. The Makelin fight was sick and scary. He pounded his body to mush with hooks before the ref interevened and stopped the fight. I think he broke Todd's ribs.
Pacquiao is a guy who has alot of good weapons, but doesn't use them all the time. His right hook is very good (See the Rakkiatgym fight), has speed to burn, understands the importance of body shots, and takes a good shot. He's been ko'ed twice, but on body shots because of weight making measures. He's always in great shape and has stamina like crazy. He is wild, but he has been under control with Freddie Roach. The "hype" around Pacquiao comes from blowing out Marco Antonio Barrera and dropping Juan Manuel Marquez 3 times. The only fighter I see knocking out Pacquiao is Morales, and even then I think Pacquiao would thrive with Morales' face first defense. But Morales might be simply too skilled and would thwart Pacquiao's raw tenacity.
Described him to the T.

Lemme clear it up for you guys. A lot of Filipino fans, like myself, are believing a lot in him because boxing has a lot of meaning back in my country. Therefore when you have a fighter from your country making a name for himself and getting that exposure, you do feel that sense of pride. It goes for any fighter in any race. I do agree that some fans are extremists and I try not to fall into that.I DON'T think that he is in anyway UNBEATABLE and posseses skill that surpasses all.
We get excited beacuse we have followed his career dating back from flyweight to now. We have seen him emerge victorious against tough opponents, claiming world titles in 2 different divisions even dethroning MAB at feather. A fighter who is doing as well as him and against world class opponents will be definatley subject to hype. That's normal. We all know he has flaws and that he doesn't posses Mayweather defensive skills but his style and his tougness overcame his previous oppositions. There no wrong for a fan in thinking that he can continue to do so. There IS reason to believe.
Now to put him in the same breath as Sanchez, Gomez, Nelson is a little getting ahead of ourselves but some die hard fans would but I can't blame them cuz they are just that. Die hard fans.
I know a lot of people are sour on him mainly because of these fans that spam these forums (evo in the past for instance) and that sucks because it would be sad to hate a fighter because of his fans. I have reasons to believe that he CAN beat anybody at featherweight even Morales at 130, realistic reasons, I'll happily debate.
Pac is an up and coming superstar with a lot of potential considering he is still 25. He has a long way to go to be dubbed an all time great but he sure makes a great addition to the featherweight division. The hype will be there, it can't be avoided. It just sucks when people discredit his accomplishments or his skills because of overhyping fans. If I'm guilty it ain't my intentions.
BTW we aint ALL as ignorant to boxing as some of you think.
I dont think any of you are ignorant (just star struck, but who say's that's a bad thing?). Anyway, great post Mooks! Very insightful ;)
I don't see any over hyping of the Pac, plain and simple, coming from a lower weight, flyweight at that faced the two best featherweight on the planet and can put on a good show....
Pac fans like myself always expect a good action fight, and we won't see him in yawner, we don't just expect him to win, we expect a KO...
I just think some guys/fans are over critical and don't give other fans some slack, others are boxing geniuses who think they know all and don't see pass what they think...
great fighters of the past have their own critics and hyping during their time, but we all know where they stand now, same for Pac, at present he will have his critics & doubters, but when everything is done and the smoke is gone, then we will see, what is Pac all about...
Don't you worry guys that's the job of Freddie Roach. Good champions become best with the best coach on their side.
I know Pacquiao has all the will, power, stamina and the brains to win against Morales! Viva Pacquiao!!!!!
he commits so much on that left and that is what leaves him open. In a fight against Morales, I feel he's gonna get dropped by that lazer uppercut. If he's gonna punch he better connect.
agree with you on that one.
I know. he does do well on ducking shots. He probably needs work on moving away and having his hands up when the opponent is on some serious attack, then at the right time go on his own relentless attack himself. Watching him go toe to toe almost 100% of the time I feel is too risky, especially against a Morales. my thoughts :)

Here's the dilemma, his instinct is to go forward and attack. Up until JMM he hasn't really encountered anyone who can withstand his attack. It's hard to pay respect to your opponents abilities if you have as devastating of an offense as Manny does. He does however have very quick reflexes and can see the punches coming. All and all, compared to Manny of the old, he has improved a lot on not getting hit. Anybody see his face against Hussein after the fight? Yeeesh, Gatti looked better.

Other than beating Morales & JMM, for him to be considered a future all-time great, he needs to seriously work on his defense.
If not, he will be KOd in the near future by the likes of Morales.

That's the problem of Pacman and Freddie Roach. If that time comes then I'm sure he is prepared for whatever Morales will bring. His defense and boxing strategy will be different than when he fought JMM or MAB. It's boxing and boxing to me is not just hitting your opponent. What keeps a fighter always winning is by using his head even in Martial Arts. A good example of a smart boxer is Hopkins when he fought Trinidad.
Bring on Pacman vs. Morales. I want it.
Pacman I say has not perfected his skills yet. But at 25, he already proved to boxing fans what he can do and what else he can in future fights. He is an exciting fighter, and fearless. This is why I like him and I like his attitude. I didn't say JMM, MAB or MORALES is not good. They are. But I am on who is the best. Pacman has proved to everybody that he is not over hyped because we've seen what he can do. Media people or promoters is to be blame for that and for other boxers as well. But to me, he is the best fighter right now in his division not because he is over hyped but because he has proven that to me. As simple as that.

Thailand has five (5) current world champions BUT Pacquiao is looked up to as the big brother. Proud Asian dragon!
The Real Asian Storm : Manny Pacquiao :D
Pink.....
I think he's a super-exciting fighter. He's also one who seems totally fearless.
He's overrated by his countrymen, that's all.
99% of them know little about boxing outside of what Pac does. So, their love of him leads them to make bold statements while knowing few facts.
this happens with a lot of fighters....Trinidad, Klits, Oscar, Tyson.
Pac should be summed up like this...
A unique, tough to beat fighter.....with explosive power & speed...a fearless attitude....& big, gaping holes that will eventually lead to his downfall.
good post dude ;)
I think alot of the hype probably comes from the fact that if you put two fighters in a ring and one of them is named Manny Pacqiou you will probably have a pretty good fight. The guy has an exciting style with good speed (ask Barrera) and good power (just ask Marquez) and he leaves himself open to get tagged. Those qualities usually make an exciting fighter.
