Probably because combat sports doesn't have a governing body like the NFL or NBA or MLB has. And of course, money.
It would be next to impossible to organize via a governing body in boxing; MMA may be different as Ultimate Fighters Association is possible and would have a larger impact.
It would have to be done outside of governing bodies, and may have to offer their own titles or give credence to one in return for an agreement. It would be tough especially to get the club fighters that would actually benefit.
And? Who the fuck agreed with the judges in the Casamayor/Santa Cruz fight??
Not many, but it was also scored much closer then this fight. 114-113 or reverse vs 98/97-92/93.
i had campbell winning on points, casa started out good and faded, then got into his clinching and pulled out some veteran tricks and eeked out a decision.
Not arguing your recollection, but the judges didn't seem to agree with you.

47-0 all time great, undisputed supermiddweight and light heavyweight champ at the same time
all calzaghe cares about is winning, he will not let himself lose EVER
And with more quid then the Queen.
Just a note, Ring recently called Montreal the second most important boxing city behind Las Vegas. My guess is we'll be seeing alot more big bouts in Montreal.
I'm not Canadian but i have that fight on Tape. cooper stomped him so bad, broke his nose and made a bloody mess of poor Dewitt. I think they fought in saskatchewan on CBS.
Yeah, Regina, pronounced like Vagina, Saskatchewan, my hometown. I was there, my Dad paid over $100 for 2 tickets in the stands in the late 80s. Yeah, Willie got stomped. It was his test, and he failed. He was never the same after, either. Any chance that fight could be converted for transfer to a PC?
Oh shit, I remember the bulldog scotty olson. He was a regular on USA tuesday night fights.Ken Lakusta was punching bag from what i remember.
Yeah, Lakusta was kind of like Chuvalo but got knocked down alot.
He fights at 122, sonnie.
And yeah Bute is. I think he's able to beat the weakest titlist, whoever it may be.
If he steps up to Kessler, oh man....that could be a tad scary.
I knew 122, thus Vasq and Marq but added I don't think moving up in weight is in his cards. He doesn't have the punch for featherweight.
There ya go.
I remember he had alot of brains. Boxing (at least the pro game) obviously wasn't for him.
Yeah, I remember him. My social teacher used to spar with him on a regular basis. Big, big dude.
To bad about the glass jaw.
:boxing:
I remember Willie. He grew up in Alberta. I can't remember where it was. May of been Red Deer or lethbridge. It was a shit town if I remember.
Me and my pops talk about him from time to time.
Grand Prairie, Alberta. He's a corporate lawyer in Calgary at this time.
Yup.
Canadian boxing was ok back then. We have had some pretty decent fighters in the 90's. Otis Grant, Hilton bro's, Lalonde, Lewis etc.
Seems every 10 years or so we have a huge influx of talent.
Molitor is the king of the castle now, IMO.
I would say that he is overrated, but he's barely on people's radar. He looks like a good fighter but something screams at me Shaun O'Sullivan reincarnated. Let's say, I just don't think he has the skills for the very top tier.
You forgot Razor Ruddock , Bulldog Olson and Ken Lakusta
Ken Lakusta lol....
I think Mollies good. He'll get beat by the top guys not named Ponce De Leon...other then that...I think Bute is very overated. Alcine is the 2nd best probably.
Bute is being managed alot better. Molitor needs to have his Joppy fight, a hard vet that played at the top on his way down. I don't follow his division much but he's no Marquez or Vasquez and he doesn't have the power for 126.
Bute on the other hand is being handled very well, and will have a big pay day. Will he be able to pull it off? If it's in Montreal, it is most likely.
It would be a great fight to see, but neither fighter will sign the fight for anything but a major-contract. Joe will fight RJJ, and KP needs to have another BIG fight win to make this worth the dollars these fighters would need for that war. Boxing fans know this is fight of the year material, but the rest of the world needs to know it. It could happen but neither will do it for less then $20-30 million. I wouldn't. :)
I love the way it goes.
Since promoters will earn less, so less money will go to the boxing councils and organisations, which will lead to a constant struggle between them. Current status quo where everyone gets his dollar will be routed. Most of the belts will loose its value and we won't have situation with 3 world champions in each weight division of each organisation. Beside that boxers will be earning less and they will need to fight more often than once a year.
Is that bad for boxing??
Youtube is the best thing that happened to boxing since the invention of TV.
Amen, the more people watching the better for the sport. I remember there would at least one good boxing match per week on TV, growing up. Usually better then FNF main event now.
Maybe, if the cost for PPV was reasonable then more folks would purchase them and no one would lose money. However, it is my guess that the folks that use you tube could not, or would not, pay that exorbitant fees for watching it. This means that no real revenues were lost.
That said, I would be more willing to entertain higher fees for PPVs, if a portion of the revenues were placed in a fund to increase purses for non-Main Event fighters. These boxers are the heart and soul of the sport and deserve to make a better living and not have to fight every month. Promoters could take a small reduction in profit, headline boxers a smaller cut in pay, and the sport is better for it. In the end, nobody needs to make that many millions per fight.
