My first big live boxing card was Dewitt vs, Smokin' Bert Cooper. It was aired on ABC (I think) and was Willie's big step up in pros, he was a Silver Medalist at the LA Olympics in 1984.
Just wondering, if any remembers this Canadian Boxer?

Yeah I remember him then. it was a big thing too.
But there were others we were watching.
From the Hiltons to Lalonde and Olajide (to bad he lost an eye)
Have you been to Cabbagetown boxing club?.
Do you know or remember Donovan Boucher?.
I remember the Cooper DeWitt bout, In fact I still have the recording. DeWitt was a pretty good amateur, just didn't do so well as a pro. I also remember seeing DeWitt fight Alex Williamson on the Hagler Hearns undercard. Williamson almost knocked him out too, Williamson probably should have won but they made it a draw. But Cooper, who was a cruiserweight back then really handed it to to him.
Yes I do. I was on several US Boxing teams in the early 80's as a lightheavy and he was always Canada's heavyweight representative. We sparred once for about 15 seconds in late 1979. He only had about 6 fignts at the time so his coaches told my coach to take it easy on him(I had slose to 100 fights at that time) even though he outweighed me by 20 pounds. When the bell rang I went to touch gloves with him and he just started whaling at me and hit and stunned me a couple of times until I grabbed his arms and spun him around up against the ropes and hit him with a body shot that put him on the floor. I took the mouthpeice out of my mouth and said "take it easy my butt!! He's trying to kill me!!". That was the end of sparring with him. Everytime I saw him after that I always wanted to ask him what the hell he was thinking that day. But I always just said hello and so did he and we went on about our business.
fuck gatti...never liked him.
Dude, i'm sorry , ok , I'm sorry. I swear as long as I live i will never mention his name to you.HAHAHA
He's alright, he did good early in his career.
He fights at 122, sonnie.
And yeah Bute is. I think he's able to beat the weakest titlist, whoever it may be.
If he steps up to Kessler, oh man....that could be a tad scary.
I knew 122, thus Vasq and Marq but added I don't think moving up in weight is in his cards. He doesn't have the punch for featherweight.
Oh shit, I remember the bulldog scotty olson. He was a regular on USA tuesday night fights.Ken Lakusta was punching bag from what i remember.
Yeah, Lakusta was kind of like Chuvalo but got knocked down alot.
Ken Lakusta lol....
I think Mollies good. He'll get beat by the top guys not named Ponce De Leon...other then that...I think Bute is very overated. Alcine is the 2nd best probably.
Bute is being managed alot better. Molitor needs to have his Joppy fight, a hard vet that played at the top on his way down. I don't follow his division much but he's no Marquez or Vasquez and he doesn't have the power for 126.
Bute on the other hand is being handled very well, and will have a big pay day. Will he be able to pull it off? If it's in Montreal, it is most likely.
I would say that he is overrated, but he's barely on people's radar. He looks like a good fighter but something screams at me Shaun O'Sullivan reincarnated. Let's say, I just don't think he has the skills for the very top tier.
You forgot Razor Ruddock , Bulldog Olson and Ken Lakusta

Yup.
Canadian boxing was ok back then. We have had some pretty decent fighters in the 90's. Otis Grant, Hilton bro's, Lalonde, Lewis etc.
Seems every 10 years or so we have a huge influx of talent.
Molitor is the king of the castle now, IMO.

You would have to tell me how to transfer vhs onto the computer and then to megaupload. It's a total beatdown, its pretty funny. Everytime he goes down the whole crowd gives that " shit we paid to see this bum get his ass beat" look.
I think he was even promoted by Bob Arum.
i have that fight. at that time cooper looked like a promising prospect, willie was suppoused to have waxed him, but cooper went on that rally in the second. the look of dewitt's nose was sickening, blood was just gushing. it made a headline the next day, the canadian public gave willie a harsh treatment after that defeat. it was a good fight tho.
i hear willie now is a lawyer
Yeah, Regina, pronounced like Vagina, Saskatchewan, my hometown. I was there, my Dad paid over $100 for 2 tickets in the stands in the late 80s. Yeah, Willie got stomped. It was his test, and he failed. He was never the same after, either. Any chance that fight could be converted for transfer to a PC?

There ya go.
I remember he had alot of brains. Boxing (at least the pro game) obviously wasn't for him.
Yeah, I remember him. My social teacher used to spar with him on a regular basis. Big, big dude.
To bad about the glass jaw.
:boxing:
I remember Willie. He grew up in Alberta. I can't remember where it was. May of been Red Deer or lethbridge. It was a shit town if I remember.
Me and my pops talk about him from time to time.
Grand Prairie, Alberta. He's a corporate lawyer in Calgary at this time.
I'm not Canadian but i have that fight on Tape. cooper stomped him so bad, broke his nose and made a bloody mess of poor Dewitt. I think they fought in saskatchewan on CBS.
