In typical Usyk fashion, he didn’t over power Fury, or ever have him hurt like he did in the first fight, he didn’t even completely outwork him in every round, but he did clearly look like the better, sharper puncher of the two. Landing the better shots in majority of the rounds.
In many ways this second fight was a lot less closer than the first fight even though first fight saw Fury getting knocked down and out on his feet.
Usyk should now seriously consider retirement. Undefeated, undisputed, and nothing left to prove. If he continues to fight he is going to lose to sooner or later, he’s not unbeatable and that’s why we love watching him fight. But at 38 by the time of his next match he is only going to slow down and it’s always a matter of time with aging boxers.
I haven't watched the fight, so can't comment, but it sure sounds like there is no chance that usyk retires. I wish more fighters left while on top (see Roy Jones vs Ruiz)...but they almost never do.
During his rise to popularity there were other Mexican stars such as Abner Mares, Leo Santa Cruz, JCC Jr. etc but what was it that made him stand out above the rest? He didnt have an amateur career, his first televised fight in the U.S. wasnt very impressive (Jose Cotto), he didnt come from a boxing "name" like Chavez, and he's not the most charismatic boxer to ever grace the cover of Ring magazine...
This isnt a diss thread so PLEASE dont treat it as one, Im just trying to understand what makes him Mexicos prize fighter above all.
I think it was a number of things, many of which might have nothing to do with boxing. Not being prejudice or anything... but a ginger Mexican is going to grab some attention. I recall when he was just grabbing the spotlight hearing people commenting on the "Gingercan," and things like that. Plus, he is a good looking dude, which always works well for marketing with a likeable personality, in addition to the fact that I think his power and boxing skill were somewhat overrated.
In this game, I think promoters and commentators try very hard to latch onto, hype/build the "next one," and with the aging Mexican stars, boxing needed (or needs perhaps) another legend to rise up.
Just my two cents :boxing:
damn... just read on two diff sights that the even the closed circuit tix will be $200 plus service charges... looks like I'll be watching this one at a bar somewhere.
But anyways, I'll admit that while I personally favor Manny over Floyd (simply because I think MM is first rate a**hole), I honestly believe this fight comes down to one question:
How much has Floyd "aged" or slowed down? The Cotto and Maidana fights (especially the first fight) linger in my mind. Floyd got hit with some clean, flush shots--even in the second Maidana fight, toward the end of one of the rounds, Marcos clocked him hard and Floyd was lucky that it was near the end of the round. Even a completely shot Mosley had Floyd hanging on for dear life, literally, for most of a round.
I believe it is inevitable that manny will land clean, given his speed and odd punching angles/tendencies--only question is, what impact will his punches have?
p.s.- I know I don't have many points, but if anyone wants some action for fun, I'd do 20,000 on Pacman :)
I just loaned you 1 tril. If Floyd wins you return it. If Pac wins I'll give you another 1 tril. :boxing:
EDIT: NVM I made a mistake. I'll get back to it later.
Cool, thanks man :)
this thread is insane. Who has Valuev fought that would qualify him as a great? Ali fought Foreman, fraiser etc. Several of Valuev's fights were also very questionable decisions. The larry Donald fight was close and his fight with Ruiz could have gone either way. Bottomline 50-0 against pretty much nobody means nothing. If he is able to beat sam peter, either of the klits or even briggs for that matter, then perhaps he will get SOME consideration as a great HW.
i dont see any need for taylor/hopkins three. taylor has beaten him twice and i dont think the paying public would like to see such another 12 BORING rounds. Winky vs Taylor is surely to be a sleeper as well. mabye one day we will see a taylor/lacy matchup.
this would be bizarre, may provide Mike with a definative reason to retire if taylor beats him, lol. I dont think they would let this happen anymore though, with the deaths in the ring.
well, i think this might just cause more problems, if this fight goes to a decision, ruiz will have to DOMINATE to get a decision IMO. may see a robbery.
im glad hes going out this way. given how many boxers (holyfield) hold onto some stupid hope and continually embarass themselves, bhop will be remembered for going out while he still had skills.
i was there. It was Tarver.
i was wondering, from someone who was there, you could probably tell how this movie is gonna turn out now? they must have shot clips of either rocky or tarver being knocked out?
im curious to see how sly ends it. mabye this time rocky will actually lose. he was supposed to die at the end of part 5, but sly changed the script..
