Most important first lessons is how to stand.
Its really that simple.
You don't start off with punching.
You don't start off with defense.
You start off teaching a kid how to stand in place.
Consign. .before footwork a person needs to learn how to be still, balanced, centered yet slightly off the "line" with their back heal slightly off the floor...this is also something that is consistently slept on today..u should know this before stepping. ....nowadays people are taught to step using one method ...the tension built up in the back leg can be used as a great motor to project u forward...u just have to know how to do it correctly so its not too forceful to where u jump or have too much forward momentum ...its a much more athletic movement then just the Frankensteinish move the front leg back leg front leg back leg. ..but it all starts with being still and balanced back heel up n conscious of ur weight transfer.
Outside of the obvious answers (LOL) you should note that Freddie Roach, Roger Mayweather, Buddy Mccgirt, and even Eddie Futch didn't build their star pupils from the beginning of their careers.
I understand that, n that isn't the reason I think he is over rated by itself,...I was just asking...I'm sure out of the trainers u listed, there had to be some fighters the built from scratch that did well..
I appreciate the responses, but nobody answered my questions, most people say hearns but he was a nationally ranked amatuer before manny approached him...
Man.. please trust me...and you can save a lot of money.. go with the ringside imf tech bag glove ...the imf tech padding is amazing...you could punch walls with those things
an observation
Its more then the broken jaw.. this dude is a con man, a liar and a had actor. ..he quit! He forced the stoppage.. and then the second it was stopped he said "I'm ready"and acted surprised! .....he wanted out...n tried to paint a image of something different! ...clown!
Peek-a-boo stance
Winky Wright
Floyd Patterson
Eddie Chambers
Arthur Abraham
etc
Shoulder Roll
James Toney
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Floyd Mayweather Sr.
etc
with the peek a boo some times u take away ur own field of vision...i dont like it personaly cause i cant see whats coming underneath or if someone throws a straight n thenhooks off with the same hand....like the hook off the jab...u cant see it coming....if ur a short crouching fighter with good head movement then it can work cause ur underneath n looking up...but u still gotta move ur head.....hence...tyson.....not everything is for every body....
shoulder roll will only work for certain fighters......n u have to have great reflexes to use it.....again not every thing is for everybody though....if u are typically very short for ur weight class....dont use it....ur opponent can still see the right hand over the top.....even if u are a little short for ur weight...like james toney...u must not only use the shoulder role but include great movement at the waist......to bend over away from the right hand....as he is getting older..he is losin that ability.....hence....him gettin hit alot more in that last peter fight.....
paul spadafora
this is usually referred to your rjj and fmj style boxer and most of the are of afro-american, hope that ir right, don't want to offend.
Just curious to who would the past and present the slickest white boxers. Very few come to mind.
dont forget about spadafora.....regardless of where u rank him as a fighter due to his layoffs n level of oppostion as of late...dude was a very slick fighter...i have been in the gym with him numerous times and he has prepared for fights at a gym i used to manage....he has great rhythm, timing and rebound....his rhythm is crazy!!!!!his ability to make subtle movements in half beats n quarter beats while changing from fast to slow speed was unbelievable...
also,...n i know this means nothing from a logical perspective.....but .....after the fight...it was clearly on floyds face, that he didnt even feel he won the fight......u can not tell me he didnt doubt that he pulled that off......just a point....n i know that means nothing about who one or lost...but if the fighter himself is in doubt....that tells u something..especially when its FLOYD who is in doubt.......but again...even if he was confident in his expressions.....from what i watched n watched thoroughly n without bias...i scored it...n castillo won that fight in my eyes
this post is ironic cause i jus watched the fight again online just to see if what i felt was right the first time around when i saw it years ago....i am at work now n i dont have the score with me but i hinestly did score it n i believe i had it 115 113....not positive on the score but i had castillo winning by a few points...it was a close fight n remember i had a even round n also a another round i was gonna call even until floyd lost a point n made it a 10 9 instead of the 10 10 round i would of called it....i honestly was objective n gave it to castillo....n yes defense counts, as far as ur logic of where the punches landed....but casitllo did land punches n there were rounds where floyd did nothing!!!!!....just doing nothing but blocking or tryin to block punches doesnt win a fight either.....i do belive floyd was hurt..so yes i will give him that...but floyd still should of lost that fight
floyd lost
also,...n i know this means nothing from a logical perspective.....but .....after the fight...it was clearly on floyds face, that he didnt even feel he won the fight......u can not tell me he didnt doubt that he pulled that off......just a point....n i know that means nothing about who one or lost...but if the fighter himself is in doubt....that tells u something..especially when its FLOYD who is in doubt.......but again...even if he was confident in his expressions.....from what i watched n watched thoroughly n without bias...i scored it...n castillo won that fight in my eyes
what they should do
what floyd n paq should do....n what I think more fighters should do is this..... if u think u deserve the lions share...n u really think u are the truth n u are that ****in confident......WINNER TAKE 60 LOSER TAKES 40.....whats the excuse then????....u gonna win anyway...right floyd????......
a few ways
FOR A TALLER FIGHTER WHO IS A BOXER-
i believe a tall rangey guy, who can control range with a good jab n straight right hand can beat floyd IF they make a boring fight out of it....make floyd lead and dont let the crowd or ur emotions dictate action..draw a line in the sand n meet him with the jab, then step back and make him reset and take the chance of closing down the distance again...a taller rangey guy does not have to press the action against floyd.....this was delahoyas mistake...he was too emotionally involved n got caught up in asserting himself against the smaller fighter....use the height n range n make floyd fight outside his comfort zone..
fOR A FIGHTER OF EQUAL HEIGHT(BUT A TRUE WELTERWEIGHT)
if ur physical attributes dont allow u to control range and distance with the jab....BUT u are in good enough shape to go pedal to the metal n fight the physcial bully typE of fight, then there are two things u must do....
one...dont stay on the straight line while ur inside...at times floyd will plant his feet n go into his shell, if u are in front of him..he can see n catch everything, do a quick step over outside of his left foot on the 45 degree angle and look for the left hook(like juan diaz used to step over and do)this way..the hook wont land on the right side of floyds face where his right glove is....it will split the guard!!!...the next effective punch to look for against floyds defense is ...the double right hand....throw the first right hand straight...AFTER THE FIRST RIGHT IS THROWN ,while in the motion of pulling the punch back, step in quickly, almost hop in immediatly...this will put ur body against his where u can pin his own left arm down against his own side....then depending on the angle of his shoulder roll...if he is leaned back, throw another striaght right hand, or if he is bent to the side, throw a chopping right hand(tim witherspoon like).....i have other ideas too..but these are a means to landing effective shots against floyd.......he is the man..but he is human!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well said....
Cotto will always have a problem like most boxers do - if somebody doesn't fight his pace he will have problems...
There only a few fighters right now who can fight every rhythym - most boxers today can only fight their own rhythym. Against guys like Pac, Margarito he will always loose, because he doesn't decide at which rhythym...
Guys like Judah and Clottey are prime examples for that - if they can fight in their own rhythym they are pretty good but as soon as the meet someone where they can't control the rhythym they loose.
in his training he must start being more explosive in spots n train his body and mind to change rhthym, tempo and pace......his consitent deliberate pace in benefitial against most fighters cause it chips away at them....but for fighters that can fight at a consistent pace above his, he cant hang!
Hands up high n tight elbows in n u just turn slightly to take the middle channel away or potentialy block the punch with ur elbow or fore ARM.....this is the safest way that requires the least effort.....some of the other techniques leave u defensively irresponsible......so if someone thrown a right undercut.u turn toward ur own right slightly by turning using ur legs n slightly ay the waist....without leaning forward, this will take the middle channel away n turn ur left ARM n elbow in...it will catch that right undercut....do the opposite to block the left...the whole time the hands can be in a high guard n elbows at ur sides....dropping ur palms down opens u up for the hook....the method above is safest n easiest, it also puts ur weight in position to transfer it back into counter shots...
I was watching Mayweather-Gatti earlier, and man that was a good example of a one-sided fight. Gatti was getting his ass taxed God rest his soul.
Roy Jones vs vinny pazienza
Lmao....all I can say is wow....the one fight where Roy consistently and aggressivly used his jab...pure dominance
not totally true.
I think its messed up how Jessie Reid is getting the pub as training Paul when the guy really working with him is Al Zuck from Erie pa...they are literally bringing in Reid at the last second and al gets no credit...not right !
