This one is a bit more "logical" but he has no one to blame but himself that his career hasn't taken off, quitting twice when you could have continued is just bad. Abraham finished and won, why can't he?
Ortiz was scampering away, terrified at the end of the last round. He panicked.
He wanted out. That's my honest opinion. He got a reason, maybe a legitimate one, but either way .........
Miranda was/is also a crude slugger and at the time Abraham was a good defensive fighter... the danger was much less for Abraham to carry on fighting compared to Ortiz who was being punched consistently throughout the fight.
Did you really just try to make the argument that Abraham (who had his jaw broke in the 4th) was in much less danger than Ortiz (who has his jaw broken 5 rounds later)???
If your goal was to fail you've succeeded admirably.
Ortiz's dirty ass got what was due for that punch behind the head. He quit for a clear third time tonight (against Maidana and Floyd) and his career is in the sh*tter. I'm angry that his quitting ruined two fights that were surefire fight of the year candidates. That Berto fight will be the highlight of his disappointing career, and I do wonder if he had some liquid courage for it.
Mayweather/Ortiz was definitely a disappointment, but Maidana/Ortiz and Lopez/Ortiz were VERY entertaining even with their unfavorable endings.

Victor "The Quitter" Ortiz : The pride of Mexico!
Ortiz quit, "Ive broken my jaw!" x 2 :bottle:
Fuk outta here, Mexicans don't claim Ortiz or Lopez. Both are as American as apple pie. We'll take full blame on Soto though.
See, you're basing your argument on assumption. The bolded proves it. Arthur Abraham's jaw was broken much earlier in his fight with Miranda (4th round) and he finished (and won) the fight without suffering this so called "permanent damage" to his jaw, and Miranda was a much bigger puncher than some lanky Mexican kid like Lopez.

Your so full of fail. Yes, he's a professional fighter, but if you watched his fight, he got hit with everything and he kitchen sink, but unfortunately for him suffered a broken jaw. You mean to tell me, knowing he would've suffered permanent damage to his jaw, he should've continued otherwise he's a quitter? So what was he doing the 10 rounds, while he was getting his face smashed? Was he quitting for 9 rounds??? Just stop trying to justify your lack of human compassion.

no one is denying the toughness and mental fortitude of fighters who does fight through broken bones/jaw, but to call someone a 'quitter' because he does not is ridiculous. The previous brutal rounds gave Ortiz ample time to quit and he didn't... also on a side note MOST fights where a fighter fought through a broken jaw that i saw featured a fighter who was confident in his defensive ability. Fair enough if you can show me otherwise...
Ortiz sucks no matter how you look at it.
He quit because he couldn't take the pain or he got his ass beat by a guy who has no business being in there. Congrats to Lopez, but he's not a very good fighter. That makes Ortiz look even more terrible that he got beat by such an opponent.
Ortiz will always be Ortiz. He's got a fragile mind and if you apply just right amount of pressure, he'll start to fall apart. He's been overrated lately because he was a Mayweather opponent. The reality is that the guy has always had mental issues and it's not fit for boxing.
I agree, he should seriously think if he's going to continue in boxing or not, but if he decides to retire at least he's going to retire with his health. He's going to have surgery since it's the only solution for a broken jaw, but he could've been seriously injured if he had continued.
I don't like when fighters quit, but I can't say I blame him this time.
Every fighter has their threshold, and Ortiz's threshold is lower than other fighters. While others would've kept fighting with an injured jaw, Ortiz decided not to. He went 9 rounds, who knows what could've happened in the last 9 mins? Maybe he would've been able to eek out a close decision, or maybe he would've gotten stopped and permanently damaged. This was a highly competitive fight, and I think people are gonna get caught up in how it ended, rather than admiring the performances of both fighters.
After this loss, I honestly think that Ortiz needs to re-evaluate his career choice. Although I believe it was his defense that lost him this fight, it was his mental fragility that allowed him to quit. I will say this though, Ortiz had numerous chances to quit in this fight, but he didn't. Ortiz was getting with big shots in every round, and it was his chin and his will that was keeping him up. He absorbed a ton of punishment. I honestly don't think Ortiz would've gotten to the 12th with his jaw in the condition it was in. He was gonna be on the receiving end of a nasty stoppage. Had Ortiz not quit against Maidana, the public probably wouldn't be coming down so hard on him right now. He's set such a negative example, and people can't help but bring up the past, "Oh look, he's fouling again" or "He's quitting again". After the fight they just put on, I think Ortiz deserves a pass and Lopez deserves a round of applause for that world-class performance. Two PPV-worthy fights on Shotime.

And also enough with all the "ortiz could have been hurt" BS. Its boxing. Not chess, not golf, not soccer or basketball, its BOXING. You are going to get hurt in the sport. For all I care Ortiz could have broken his jaw, his hand, his pinky toe, his nose, and sprained his ankles, if he would've quit he would be labeled a quitter. In this sport you know you're going to deal with pain and injuries and if you're not prepared to fight through them, then you shouldn't be in the sport in the first place. You fight on and go out on your shield, but you dont call the referee over and tell him to stop the fight. Lets look at Gatti with his broken hand or Malinaggi and Abraham with their jaws or Marciano with his nose. You are in this sport to hurt your opponent and must expect to be hurt sometimes along the way, you are not in it to quit. That's why people are losing respect for Ortiz.
Yeah, but shouldn't we leave that to his peers? What right do any of us or some fat nerdy journalists have to criticize someone that got into to boxing to get out of his circumstances. You can say he should've continued, but to call him a quitter is downright in compassionate.
I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have continued. Ultimately that's up to him and his priorities.
I have no issues with someone who considers there health more important than winning a particular fight on that particular day.
It's still not going to change the fact that they quit for whatever reason. Whether it be legit or not.
