Loma topped at 126, dominating 135. Crawford outgrew 135, maybe tops at 147, does he dominate 147? does he move up past his topped weight of 147? Loma overall more accomplished career, amateur to pro.
Lomachencko could end the hypothetical debate by calling out and beating Crawford.
Good if Mikey man's up we can bet.
If Mikey mans up??? How about Lomachencko manning up and fighting Mikey at a comfortable weight. I have no clue what Mikey’s plans are. But if Lomachencko is only willing to fight Mikey at a 135 limit. That has the potential to end negotiations before they even start.
Didn’t you get the memo? Loma wants to unify belts and Mikey has one of them. If Mikey wants to fight above 135 fine. Let him vacate his belt and let Loma take it from somebody else’s. They can fight later.
That’s where you and I go in opposite directions as fight fans. To me, “unify” is nothing but a fancy term for fighting a bunch of subpar opposition who happen to be holding meaningless trinkets. I’d rather have my big fight now. And afterwards, Lomachencko can return to his bum of the month club if no other bigger fights are available.
BTW, how does a Tank Davis fight correlate with Lomachencko’s unification quest? To my knowledge, he fights in a lower division. And Lomachencko’s diehards seem to be totally cool with him putting the belt quest on hold for that fight. But when it comes to taking on Mikey above 135, the belt quest becomes the most important thing. Make you say hmmmmm
He's still a champion at 135. How do you know he can't make the weight?
I don’t know if he can or can’t. But he just fought at 147. And three of his last four fights have been above the 135 limit. So it’s not far fetched that Lomachencko only being willing to fight him at 135 may be a deal breaker.
I am from the UK too and the problem with Kahn is not his race or religion, it is his constant waffle about how great he is and how poor everyone else is, he never gives credit to his opponents, even getting sparked by Canelo, he went on and on about how he was winning till he got caught, same with his loss to Garcia, waffle waffle waffle. I really liked Khan when he came on the scene, but he is just an attention seeking whore now !
What makes Khan annoying is also what keeps him relevant. And it also makes him a great “opponent” for top fighters in need of a stay busy/tuneup type fight. Khan has done skills. He has a solid resume. And he sees himself as an elite fighter. So he’ll come to fight. All of us know this is a stay busy fight for Crawford. But Khan sees it as a superfight that the world has been wanting to see. Same as the Canelo fight.
he just beat 135 champ, Easter Jr, 8 months ago or so. and was chubby and flat footed against 147 Errol.
no logic, whats over
Mikey’s always flat footed and has never exactly been a body-beautiful.
What’s the purpose of Mikey’s belt if he’s not fighting for that belt’s weight?
I don’t care about the belt. I care about seeing Mikey and Lomachencko fight. If they can do it at 135, great. If Mikey wants above there, I don’t see why Lomachencko wouldn’t be willing to do it.
Mikey is going to vacate. He doesn't want to fight Lomachenko.
IMO that would look really bad on Mikey.
I guess Mikey no longer being able to comfortably make the weight wouldn’t matter to y’all.
“It doesn’t make sense”
Let’s just break that down. First of all, he doesn’t even read the whole thing OR he doesn’t comprehend much after the first sentence and why? Let’s start there.
He does actually have names on his fight card yes, names!
Barrera, Judah, collazo,Alexander,Diaz and maidana.
The last being the only win of note (albeit within a whisker of defeat by stoppage) however, all other names were by far well past their prime.
He sees the above as his claim to being something he clearly is not but the confusion area for him (bless his little cotton socks) is where his head has taken such punishment, that has discombobulated his thought processes. Understandably, cracks to the head in time will do this and so, he can be forgiven for appearing the dummy that he now is in full.
Hating is not something I feel for him it’s just, the going public in mouthing how his brain now works which makes me laugh not hate.
I don’t like the bloke and never have and why?
Example: during the Olympic Games he earned a silver medal in, i was screaming at the tv in his support but upon his time turn to the uk, with the demands he made for “a million quid” just to sign him to go pro I thought, “you greedy little kunt” and disliked him ever since.
Maybe it’s just me but he done well in the games and all that however, he had n place or else to dictate fack all before entering the pro circuit end of.
I did actually think at the time Prescott would ko him but never gave it another thought and then, boom!
His career was mapped out and that my friends, is where through my posts dating back over thirteen years on this site will tell you exactly that.
I was right all along and glad regardless of wealth or imaginary glory so, jealousy plays no part.
I don’t see how you can dislike a guy for trying to maximize his earning potential. Olympians, especially medalists, are very often in the middle of bidding wars between promoters and receive big signing bonuses when they decide to go pro.
If Hurd’s people were smart. They have in the contract that the rematch will be above 154. If not the full 160, somewhere between. At least around 157-158.
Counts have never been done in seconds, never once in the history of boxing. If you beat the referees count then you're still in the fight. When will this myth die?
Counts are necessarily perfect seconds. But when Fury beat the count in the final round of his fight with Wilder. The ref basically had him do wind sprints back and forth across the ring which gave him a lot more time to clear his head than he should have been given. In the Wilder-Ortiz fight. Wilder was given extra time coming out for the eighth round after being hurt badly in the seventh. Both instances are pretty common in boxing today as they’re trying to focus more on fighter safety. But personally, I think in some situations it drastically affects outcomes in fights.
Hearn needs to stop pretending that he would want this fight to happen without making an arrangement to have some financial control over wilder beyond that fight. At the end of the day, I'd prefer to see wilder vs Joshua but to say fighting Ortiz is an embarrassment when Ortiz is a higher rated heavyweight than anyone Joshua has fought (or in the case of miller, planned to face) in the past 2 yrs. Wilder's best 2 opponents are still better than Joshua's best 2 opponents. So the supposed fear of Joshua that Hearn is trying to portray is a joke.
I think I understand what Wilder is doing from a business standpoint. But as a boxing fan, there’s no defending this move. I understand that AJ is a dangerous fight for him and he wants to maximize the payday. But what exactly does an Ortiz rematch do for Wilder? I can understand a Fury rematch. But Ortiz??? Come on bruh. And to announce it during AJ’s fight week. I’m a Wilder fan. But it gives the impression that’s he ain’t trying to see AJ right now.
Joshua has really started to come across as a coward this past week.
I wouldn’t say all that. I think AJ has reached a point in his career where the business of boxing has become more important than the competition. And he’s basically saying what his promoter is telling him to say.
Didn’t watch the fight last night. It started way too late and I still haven’t bought in to the ESPN+ and DAZN nonsense. Guess it’s a sign of getting old and being stuck in my ways.
Anyway, sounds like Kovalev boxed his way to a convincing victory. Not surprising. Kovalev is an excellent technical fighter. He outboxed Hopkins. And IMO he outboxed Ward in both of their fights. Ward just outfought him and exposed Kovalev as a mental midget. Either way, Kovalev and Alvarez have beaten each other once. My question is, does Alvarez deserve a rubber match?
I believe him. I visited London last month for a week and the time change is no joke. Me and the ole lady would get in bed at 10pm London time. And would accidentally sleep past noon each day we didn’t set an alarm. Whether AJ is watching or not isn’t gonna change the outcome. So if he isn’t interested in watching from an fan’s perspective. I don’t have a problem saying he won’t either stay up late or wake up super early in order to watch.
I can’t speak for Haymon haters or fanboys. But it’s a loss for both of them. Sure a short term win for PBC biased people, but in the long term, it actually takes a lot away from them.
With Joshua potentially out of the picture, and definitely out of the picture for creating the next super fight, it makes the HW division that much more lacking.
What the fanboys needed, was a crowning Wilder win over Joshua in the ring, as justification of their petty ‘supremacy’. The same for Hearn fanboys.
Now that can’t happen. The super fight is gone, and what remains in the HW division, is not a lot
The “superfight” isn’t gone. This simply makes the Wilder-Fury rematch for the “undisputed” heavyweight championship because they’re now clearly the top two guys.
so if joshua comes back and beats ruiz easy in the rematch your still confine him to the fight last night......just as well your not an historian regarding joe louis , lennox lewis and ray robinson.
No heart lol...he was down four times and he was clearly a beaten fighter last night and he would not have seen out 12 rounds lol
For me its better to regroup and come back and fight on another day than get permantly damaged in that ring.
AJ lost his aura last night. Majority of people saw him as the best heavyweight in the world. He also would have been favored to beat Wilder and Fury. That’s over with, regardless if he beats Ruiz or not. Looking at the former Big 3 heavyweights. I always thought Wilder would beat Fury, Fury would beat AJ, and AJ would beat Wilder. Obviously, Wilder didn’t handle Fury the way I thought he would. And now, even though I think AJ could outbox Wilder in spots. I don’t see an scenario where AJ could deal with Wilder’s fire power for an extended period of time. Wilder hits too hard and AJ’s chin is too weak. Plus he’s not overly difficult to hit like Fury.
All the top heavyweights are vulnerable so it’s gamble either way...one thing I will say is Ruiz is tough and skilled heavyweight who is very deceptive because his size and shape but if he caught fury or wilder in close we would see the same thing happen....fair play to Ruiz though
He would have to catch Wilder very early. Because if that’s Wilder that caught him with the shot AJ dropped him with. He might still be sleep as we speak. Or at the very least need a day or two to remember his name.
Hearn is full of s.hit. This wasn’t a mental lapse by AJ. AJ got beat up and disposed of. And seconds prior to the counter hook that had him on queer street in the third, he was hit with the exact same punch. AJ didn’t get sloppy. AJ has a low boxing IQ.
As for him never recovering after the rough third. Ruiz did next to nothing in the forth and fifth rounds. That’s plenty of time to recover. AJ did the same thing in the Wladimir fight after being hurt himself in the fifth after dropping Wlad. And he didn’t “recover” for several rounds. There’s only three logical explanations as to why AJ has such a hard time recovering in fights after being buzzed. One, he has an undisclosed health issue that we don’t know about. Two, he has an undiagnosed medical condition that he doesn’t know about. Or three, he’s a mental midget that falls apart when faced with adversity.
so if fury loses to Swartz or wilder to Ortiz that’s still your same opinion ...we’ve already seen last night when fighters look beyond there opponent and then loses to them.
A real superfight comes along every decade.
Pacquiao vs mayweather
Lewis vs Tyson
Leonard vs hagler
Ali vs foreman and so on.
Wilder vs Joshua was never going to be that due to america not having the same passion for boxing as it did then.
Those fights transcended boxing and even people not really interested in boxing watched the fights.
Joshua for now is out the mix if he comes back and beats Ruiz in the rematch he gains some credibility he lost last night but not all... the only thing which can redeem him is if he manages to come back and take out wilder and fury.
That’s if they don’t lose before
If Wilder and/or Fury are knocked off before they make it to each other. The division will very much start to resemble the current situation at 154.
Well your definition of a super fight differs drastically than mine. In fact, yours is depressing as two top fights shouldn’t count as a super fight, that should be standard practice.
When I think of super fight, I think of Mayweather/Pacquiao, Lewis/Tyson, Ali/Foreman... fights capable of appeal way outside of the boxing fraternity. We’ve lost that now, the allure of two technically undefeated power punching HW’s, for all the belts, has disappeared
Your definition of a superfight has more to do with the size of the event moreso than the quality of the matchup. You also place too much stock in the belts. AJ was never a champion. He was a paper trinket holder. And to a degree so is Wilder. Fury has a good, or better claim to the legitimate heavyweight title as both. All that happened last night was a fake domino fell.
and neither have the potential drawing power of Anthony Joshua, or at least what he had prior to this loss
Big fight yes, super fight no
As a hardcore fight fan, a superfight is a matchup between two elite fighters when talking non-heavyweights. A heavyweight superfight is when you have two of the unquestioned top guys fighting. I don’t particularly care about drawing power or how much each fighter is getting paid. Before last night, there were three heavyweights that could make a legitimate claim to being the top guy in the division. One domino fell, and now we have two. If they fight, it’s a superfight. I wouldn’t care if they did it secretly in a small gym in AL. I’d be just as excited about it as I would if they did it in front of 100K people in a big stadium somewhere.
World championship belts.
Let’s compare apples to apples.:poke:
The discussion was about natural size and how Manny isn’t as small as people make him out to be. You went way out in left field trying to prove whatever point you’re trying to prove.
But if you wanna go that route, fine, I’ll play along. Floyd and Lomachencko spent their years competing as high level amateurs. Manny spent his teenage years fighting in filthy gymnasiums and outdoor dirt arenas because he comes from a s.hitty country that allows little kids to fight grown men. And the competition he was fighting wasn’t all that great. The guys Floyd and Loma were fighting as high level amateurs were better. Ironically, Floyd won his first world title before Manny did even though Manny has been fighting professionally longer. And Lomachencko won his first title in his third fight. I still don’t understand the point you’re trying to make.
How many belts does Floyd or Loma have on those lighter weights?:poke:
Floyd won the National GG as a light flyweight when he was sixteen. He won an Olympic bronze as a featherweight at nineteen. And won his first professional world title like a year later at 130. Very similar to the weights Manny was fighting at at the same ages.
Lomachencko won the jr world championship at like 17 as a flyweight. He won his first Olympic gold medal as a featherweight at like 19-20. Again, very similar to the weights Manny was fighting at at the same ages.
If Pacquiao is that small, then he should've fought Crawford @ 140, instead of Horn, and he should've fought Lomachenko @ 135, instead of Broner!
They’ve overplayed that “Manny could be fighting at 135 or 140” nonsense up for years. Manny was entering the ring in the mid 140s when he was fighting at 130. Him moving up from flyweight gets overblown too because he was fighting professionally as a teenager. If you compare Manny at age sixteen to someone like Floyd at sixteen. They were fighting at around the same weight. Yet Floyd is viewed as naturally much larger.
