you're on of the ones making exuses and not posting anything logical really to back up the excuses. tarver landed a so called lucky shot that jones went down from and didn't get up to beat the count from. the shot also made jones back up a lot in their third fight. johnson made jones look dead.
floyd's resume vs roy's resume is hard to compare really when determining who fought better competition when people are too stuck on claiming who they've ducked.
now you claimed floyd did enough to win in his toughest fights, but he still won. while, roy was knocked out in his toughest fights. what's that saying. that's not taking away from his talent at all, but it does play a role in comparing these 2.
you can have your opinion on what roy did better than floyd in as far as skillset goes, but that's just ypur opinion, imo, floyd's skillset was much more polished and well rounded than roy's, and many people will agree that he was more fluent with his punches and was better defensively and fought better off of the ropes, etc. i could go on forever. his jab was a hell of a lot better than roy's was.
i dont even know why there is an argument for this. prime to prime evryone knows Jones wins fair and square, jus coz floyd was better than Jones at SOME things doesnt make him better than Jones...
haha RJ didnt need a jab...
RJJ vs Calzaghe will be an interesting fight. if anything RJJ is gonna make it interesting.. hes the one thats gonna be throwing proper PUNCHES that hurt, if theres any kncokdowns its frm RJJ.
i agree,
Calzaghe's power will not be a factor.
true. Roy definitely has more power.
Speed? Prob Clz but wel never know till fight night. Roy gettin better and better since defeats.
Workrate goes to Calzaghe
Defence RJJ
Chin Clz
Heart? Not sure
RJJ will want it real bad as he has all to gain whereas Clz has all to lose
Accuracy RJJ
Footwork? curently i would have to say Clz
Stamina? RJJ got more stamina than B-hop. Clz probz got more than roy at his age though
Skill/Technique? RJJ is the more technically equipped fighter.. v clever in the ring too
who will win? im goin for RJJ because he is getting better since his defeats and Clz failed to impress in his last fight. if b-hop could negate Clz workrate than im sure RJJ can too.. fight is also in america so i doubt any controversial decision or a KO/TKO unless its from Roy.
Definitely wil be an interesting fight. one to watch
Come on RJJ!
Speed: Calzaghe, faster Combo’s and footwork, Jones does throw single shots faster though
Power: Jones
Stamina: Joe by 100000 bagillion miles
Defense: Accendtly voted Zaghe, meant to choose Jr, just.
wins the fight?
Jones vs Hill. What a body shot.
yeah. sounded like a rifle goin off. one of the best bodyshots iv seen. ever since he fought Mike 'The Body Snatcher' Mcallum he started targeting the body alot, especially after the Hill fight, when he saw what reawrds goin towards the body could provide.
Lol they should have a Doubleheader with Pavlik - Wright and Jones - Clz on the same night. that would raise some interesting trash talk in the conferences haha
he has the best record out of any light heavyweight,he only lost hopkins because he was weight drained, this is the guy that finished roy jones,he is back and he gonna become the undisputed champion,
how can calzaghe be the best lhw after one fight in the division that shit aint right
tarver is the man at 175
calzaghe would never wanna fight him. calzaghe only after what tarver finished
Best record? tarver 27-4 hahah
RJJ we all know he was shot then and weight drained
Best light heavy out there we cant tell yet, after jones vs calzaghe wel porbably know
If Roy jones does beat calzaghe ... do you think there will yet again be another jones vs tarver match ?
If he beats Calzaghe Yeah a fourth fight would be real interesting, then Roy could retire with a Belt... But if Roy loses than Tarver gonna trash talk Calzaghe till he fights him hahah..
Roy vs Tarver IV
thts wht i want to see
or perhaps avenge his loss to jonhson.. take care of all his losses and retire on of the top ATG's
maywetaher wasnt the greatest from 2002-08... it ws RJJ all the way to 2004. then after that i would say B-hop/Mayweather. Mayweather definitely p4p from 2005 though.. 3 years on top
Amir Khan may dissapoint us, gotta work on his defence
Odlanier Solis was a great ameature, hasnt lost in pro yet but his weight is an issue, keeps putting on more and more weight before fights.
that liverpool flyweight guy that got his knocked out on the amir khan - kristijanson undercard, forgot his name. he was dissapointing.
Most deffinatly.
Roy won the battle, Tarver won the war. To use a cliche to explain that. Roy won rounds with right hands to the body while Tarver wasn't working. In the rounds where he did his work, Tarver had Roy in trouble.
I can understand how, looking at the fight, you would think tarver won easily. I thought you were saying that Tarver had deffinatly won.
Yeahn it was a close decision. i didnt score the fight myself but a few of my friends were and they got on their scorecards scores of 115-113 or 116-112 for RJJ..
I like Tarver, I find him very funny and I don't understand why everyone hates him so much. I mean "Got Any Excuses Tonight Roy?" was an absolute classic.
Yeah lol that was classic. and before the third fight - ''ima slam the last nail in that coffin''.. hahah tht was clever too
Training takes the major part of the win but it not the only thing.
Gameplan is also very important.
People say style makes fight guess what fighters change there style from one fight to another. each opponent is treated differently.
So you gotta see what is you pros and use it effectively against the other fighter. For some fighters they got speed and power but dont are not effective with it, There are many fighters who overall level of skills and fitness is better then his opponent but end up losing fight just because he doesnt know how to use his advantage.
Yeah i agree. the fighter gotta be clever and intelligent, not weak minded. Lots of fighters out there waste their talent and end up losing the fight
honestly tarver would beat the snot out of roy again
roy should not fight tarver again
Dont think so. Tarver aint exactly young and his fight against Woods wasnt exactly a great performance... Roy could pull it off.. if you look at the 3rd fight, once Roy got into his rythm and started throwing punches Tarver had no Answer
Yeah it's a shame that Roy did nothing for 11 rounds, in Round 5 he nearly took Tarver out if i remember correctly.
Yep he sure did.. He had his moments in the fight.
but i think hes improved now he had to learn a whole new style for the fight and was cautious, thats probably why he lost. hes better now and not so much weight drained..
Oh yeah his trash talk is funny. I don't really like Tarver much, but i repsect him.
yeah same im an RJJ fan so i dont really like him much either.. but hes funny lol.
I did say in an earlier post, I think that Tarver would give him problems for a bit. But i feel after a few rounds Roy would take over and win it from there on.
Yeah, hes probably figured out Tarvers southpaw style by now.. for Tarver though, he has to work out a totally different Roy now.. its gonna be hard and all the disadvantages will be stacked on Tarver.
the woods fight wasnt his best performance but he won easily and was never troubled,
roy did nothing in the third fight, if anything roy is alot worse now, he may have changed his defence but he would get takin out by many of the light heavyweights,
you forgot to mention tarver nearly knocked roy out again in the 11th,
roy wouldnt beat tarver if they fought again,
ill make a poll
Roy did have his flahes of the old Roy in the third fight.. He was just too cautious and didnt take any risks in the 3rd fight. lol Tarver almost knocked out roy? he almost fell out the ring himself after landing the punch!
Trust me if they fought, Roy has alot more to offer now than 4 years ago, and would win by decision.
He lost his reflexes and has now changed his style to fight without them. You gotta admire it :)
Yeah, What a Legend.. Hes got a 'normal' boxing style now hahah... and hes been doing pretty well with it
I dont think it would be that easily
First Tarver footwork is underrated abit and he got abit of speed himself not like Roy but it pretty okay.
He knows how to use his size and jab to keep Jones away.
Roy Jones hit compacted punchs so with Tarver southpaw stance and right hand jab to distance him away from Jones it still pretty hard for him even if he got speed because he will be using it alot. Also Tarver is a counterpuncher so If Roy got passed Tarver right hand he could eat the left
Roy is a better counterpuncher than Tarver. he has more speed. Power i think they both have about the same. tarver gets hurt with bodyshots though, like he did in the first and third fights. and Roy is excellent at bodypunching, especially off the ropes. if they fought again it would be a good fight but Roy would snatch a decision
My top 5 would be
1) Gamboa
2) Valero
3) Devon Alexander
4) Banal
5) Khan
yeahh i should have included AJ Banal and Gamboa in my list.. totally forgot.
Today, July 8th, is the third year anniversary of Julian Letterlough's senseless killing. Julian was a great person and tremendous warrior. Boxing fans please provide some of your thoughts and memories of Julian.
I remember watching some of julian letterloughs fights, he was like Tyson, looked like him too. His fights come on Ballroom Boxing sometimes. R.I.P to a Great Fighter
