I got this article via email. Thought it may interest you:
"While such a rumour would have been immediately dismissed by the boxing world 2 weeks ago. There is increasing talk about Kelly Pavlik fighting Anthony Mundine in Las Vegas in September. The romour has taken this boxing blog and every other boxing site by shock.
While there has been no media release or confirmation by either fighters managers just yet, it remains a growing possibility!
Reasons Why:
- Paul Williams is asking for to much money, reportedly $2.5 million US, to fight Pavlik at MW. Mora has also priced himself out of the fight. Arum seems intent on fighting Winky at a later date, with Winky possibly wanting a warm up/tune up fight, as he hasn't fought for over 12 months. Pavlik fans seem unhappy about a possible fight with John Duddy, who is being compared to Gary Lockett, AKA another mismatch.
We are not sure how correct this is yet, or whether a deal has been struck. But by interpreting news from recent months, a fight between Pavlik and Mundine makes more sense. In April, Mundine stated he is looking for fights against the big name Americans such as "Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright". Pavlik will be able to keep an absolute majority of the purse, probably profiting around $4 million dollars. Whereas Mundine may still make more than he did against Soliman in the 3rd fight, even if he takes a minor 20% of the purse against Pavlik. (Making this deal much more attractive to Mundine, is the possibility for channel 10 in Australia to show the fight, as they seem intent on showing more Australian based fights and will be showing Klitschko vs Tony Thompson from next Sunday).
We are unsure how true the romours are, or if there is any truth at all to a possible fight between Pavlik and Mundine. It could be the match up all of Australia has deserved to watch for years! Or it could prove to be total fabrication!
Only time will tell!
And Pavlik may indeed give "The Mans" career a lifeline!"
Yeah I think so also. I think many of the guys in Mundine's camp played him and spoon fed him stuff that Ult ate right up. He would then come and tell us and the mockery would ensue. Ult was a very passionate fan, to the point of being overbearing, but I still liked the guy for the most part. He could be damn funny at times. He really started to lose it though!LOL
Nahh. The guy appeared mentally ill. A nutcase. As for his alleged 'contacts' it must have been a voice in his head.
Yea, I think he knew some guys that worked in the camp or something along those lines.

Did Ult. have some contact in the Mundine camp or something? He always seemed to claim he had very solid information about upcoming fights etc but i never asked him.

Ult.!!!!!!! :rofl::rofl:
Oh Dean I burst out laughing here at work. So much that I actually drooled a little coffee on my keyboard.......
I wonder when ult.'ll be back. It'll be a huge letdown for him because a Pavlik fight for Mundine is possibly the only fight he hasn't predicted. Not even in his most far-fetched long-range scenarios.
Send me the bill for the Keyboard!hehe
Yeah Mundine must have turned around and offered Pavlik that 8 Million dollars that Danny Green refused (or was it 11 million?) . It is good to see Mundine having such deep pockets. He is now the official wheels of our sport :D
:lol1: He was a little fanatical about Mundine, but i guess all he wanted was to convince people that Mundine was looking for big fights. It's a shame really, it was his fanatisiscm (SP?) that brought some hate against him and Mundine.
Yeah. Ult. made me dislike Mundine a little as a fighter and even more as a man.
Ult. will probably creat a new alt. It'll be Ultimateboxa3. :lol1:

I think you will see Abraham vs Pavlik by mid 2009. You know it will take some big money to make the fight happen. Abraham's camp will not do it for free. They will definitely be looking to get a huge payday as both present a huge amount of risk to each other.
The Winky fight will happen after he comes back down to earth and will settle for a non multi-million payday.
Somewhere right now Ult is reading this thread and frantically e-mailing BigPoppaPump looking to get reinstated.

I doubt this fight would happen, its just pure speculation.
IMO Mundine would school Felix Sturm, so as an Aussie, i'd like to see him go down that route, assuming Sturm gets past Sylvester. Mundine is a much better fighter than people think, but he still wouldn't have a chance against Pavlik, Kelly's workrate is too high and his punching assaults are too relentless for Mundine, he doesn't like getting hit.
Winky needs to retire or get his arse back in the ring.
IMO Abraham v Pavlik is the fight that needs to happen, and it will, with time. Winky v Pavlik would be cool, but Winky isn't doing himself any favours by taking his time, he isn't getting any younger, put up or shut up IMO.
Whilst I rate this fight as virtually no chance of ever actually taking place I don't think that, in the event that it did, it would be the walk in the park for Pavlik that people would think. Mundine has improved a lot since losing to Ottke and he took Kessler's best shots for 12 rounds. I don't think Kelly hits harder than Pavlik. I would pick Kelly by UD but not in a totally uncompetitive fight.
Mundine, if he is still anything like as good as he was when he fought Kessler would definitely be competitive with Pavlik. He is not a bad fighter at all.
Wouldn't mind seeing that fight, but if Pavlik is struggling for opponents I hear there's this guy named Abraham. They say he has belts in Kelly's division...but nah...fighting him is a ridiculous idea.
aa will be facing his mandatory in marquez, than he allegedly will fight pavlik in january!
Tough to call. In one way Abraham's style is absolutely made for Pavlik in that he stands in front of you in a high guard taking shots on his gloves, waiting for you to stop so he can throw back. In theory, with Kelly's workrate and reach he could be raining blows on Abraham all night long, and either wear him down for a KO (unlikely) or just get a points verdict.
However, Abraham is no chump and will have his opportunities too. He is faster than Kelly and Kellyis not hard to hit. We have seen what Abraham's power can do and I have absolutely no doubt that he will land some hard shots on Kelly. If Taylor can put Pavlik in trouble then Abraham can certainly KO him.
So, in the end it really comes down to which man's strength/ chin/ stamina is in the best condition to withstand the other mans assault. Can Abraham withstand the accumulative damage inflicted by Pavlik and can Pavlik withstand Arthur's single shots. Based on their recent fights I'd say I slightly favour Abraham, who went 12 with Miranda despite having a broken jaw, over Pavlik who has been dropped several times and was seriously hurt when it happened against Taylor. I might very easily be wrong though, and if it goes the distance then I think Pavlik will get the decision.
Yeah I'd say that is a pretty fair appraisal. I really think it is a pick 'em type fight. Very difficult. Although I haven't seen as much of AA as I would like.

Abadger, you think Arthur beats Pavlik?
