Porter vs Lopez let's make it happen.....
I think Porter vs Lopez would be an action fight for sure. Both guys never let up. I would definitely be a war for ever how long it last.
Sounds like GGG vs Jacobs is on..............
I think this fight is going to be a done deal with Jacobs at the Barclays. Looks like there shaping up the card to have a fool house.
Foy?
I have to concede I haven't seen every fight this year but this has to be at least a candidate for FOY. This was definitely fight of the night and congrats to both gentleman on a hard fight.
GGG is skilled however has lackluster record
GGG is 32 and hasn't fought a single person at this point in his career. His whole resume is padded with B/C level fighters. I'm not sure why GGG hasn't moved up to fight guys his size because he's a big middle weight in terms of his width and thickness. Maybe not the tallest but definitely a big guy. Canelo will fight GGG after Pac. I said they would fight and there was obvious talks. I think Arum will see the bottom line and make the fight happen next year especially since Pac having trouble securing a fight HBO will support.
GGG body shots is why Brook bulked up.....
GGG body shots that are very accurate is what puts fighters down. He has a very good up and down attack. Kell does have defense so will see how he adjust. I like the fact Brook does have a good jab as well. I see GGG boxing and trying to setup Brook with power shots behind the jab. It'll be up to Brook to be mindful pot shot and move. Don't admire your work Brook hit and get out of there while constantly turning GGG. Stay off the ropes. It's a tall order will see if Brook can do it but Brooks skills I don't doubt.
People are putting too much emphases on Kov power..
I have Ward winning this fight and could even be by knockout. When I look at both guys I see a lot of flaws in Kovalev. I'm not going to get specific but I see Kovalev having a very bad night if these flaws aren't fixed and I mean very bad night unless some how his power bails him out which I don't believe it will because he's not a one hitter quitter like Tyson and Ward doesn't really take massive punishment.
Ward fights top opponents
People are complaining about Ward not having a lot of knock outs but he's fighting guys in their prime who don't get knocked out and have solid chins makes a difference when your fighting real competition and not weight drained, old and faded fighters........
Ticket Sales
55K tickets are impressive. I saw a few blogs about boxing sells. Usually most fights take place in Vegas at smaller venues but the gate take is as much or larger than $5-10 mil for a major fight. In boxing people are willing to pay
$30K or more for tickets and VIP passes.
Cant Blame Berto
Ortiz body looked totally different against Berto vs Floyd. I've never seen Ortiz looked that ripped and moving up in weight come on............
People have to understand whether your a fan of Pac or not that anyone who passes up on a guaranteed $50 mil pay day because they don't want to take a drug test is going to look suspicious especially when they can make significantly more than $50 mil for a fight.
People can say Mayweather is scared all they want the fact remains Pac has refused a $50 mil payday to take a blood test when you have to draw blood for aids test in boxing. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
I had Charlo winning....
Lubin as I said before didn't see anything special about him and he hasn't fought anyone. I thought it be competitive but Charlo would win. Didn't expect it to end in one round thought it go 8. Lubin made a rookie mistake he's young and can bounce back.
Lubin was moved too quickly.....
Lubin was never ready to fight a Charlo at that stage in his career. His team did a poor job of moving him forward as I said in my previous post before they even fought. Lubin is a solid fighter not sure if he'll be good or great he's still young. Time will tell however I wish him luck in his career.
Trout deserves another money fight.........
Given Trout was in a FOY candidate with Hurd, even in a loss deserves another money fight. He gave the fans what they wanted a war and we as fans should support him because his corner stopped the fight and he was willing to go out on his shield. So, I hope Trout gets the payday he deserves for being a worthy opponent in championship fights and as a former champion.
Didn't Duran challenge Hagler at MW.....
I just hope there is a rehydration clause for GGG. For some odd reason I'm actually OK with this fight even though I've been a heavy critic of GGG. Besides they both looking to get paid at this stage in their careers and even though I think this is a bad career move for Brook it's his choice.
No what I expected but still good money.....here's why
So they made $10.4 mil in PPV not assuming anyone bought HD. They also sold international rights for probable $5-10 mil plus merchandising and gate. So this event brought in $15-20 mil on an aggregate basis. Not to mention local impact to Vegas casinos and hotels. Maybe not what we expected but to say it was at a loss I can't see that. I would say Duva and Roc Nation were left with roughly $5-10 mil to divide among theme selves after everyone was paid. Not a big payday given the effort put in but not a losing effort.
Chavez Jr. sounds jealous
Chavez Jr. should be supporting his Mexican patriot and not criticizing him. Make weight for once Chavez Jr. before you comment on someone doing more than you are. Try repping your father's name with some pride and get serious bout your profession then maybe you can mention Canelo's name.
Chilemba is a solid fighter w/ a decent record
Fans have to understand that every fight isn't going to be against a killer or you wouldn't last long in the sport of boxing and all good fighters fight B to A level opponents throughout the year. You don't want a lot of wear and tear before a big fight.
GGG fighting Hopkins Next
Good business move by GB...GGG fights Hopkins then Canelo May of 2017. GB will get two big pay days while giving Canelo the time he needs to get ready for GGG and if Hopkins wins then Canelo dodges a bullet or at least Hopkins may soften GGG up for Canelo. I'm cool with it only if Canelo and GGG fight happens.
This fight is going to happen....
If UFC fighters can fight in martial arts tournaments which also pay money the notion you can't fight in a fight for a lot of money is bogus. Which is why Dana is probable silent at this point because he has no legal basis to stop this fight. Sounds like McGregor found his loop hole. Obviously will have to wait and see but I'm not into stopping anyone from making an honest living.
I got Quillen winning by knockout
I like Jacobs however I don't see his chin holding up to Quillin's power. I think the fight gets stopped around the 8th round or possible sooner. Quillin just needs to take his time but we'll see how Jacobs reacts when he gets hit flush with that left hook. Mora hurt Jacobs badly and really isn't known as a huge puncher so we'll have to weight and see if Jacobs has some new wrinkles and if Quillin has improved as a boxer.
I hope that fight gets made this summer......
Definitely will watch that fight if not out right go to see that one in Cowboy Stadium. That would be another epic event.
If Jacobs vs Canelo was the cash cow fight....
If Jacobs vs Canelo was the cash cow fight instead of GGG vs Canelo then GGG would have lost the fight. There's a mountain of cash to be made by HBO and everyone else for that fight and so Jacobs was fighting an uphill battle. Jacobs won and GGG knows it but at the end of the day when you're not the draw you may not be given the nod even if clearly won. Canelo vs Lara comes to mind. Still want to see GGG vs Canelo it will be a great fight, hence me just saying that tells you why they couldn't have Jacobs get the victory he earned. In all honesty even though Jacobs won I'd rather see that match up of GGG vs Canelo.
It's not going to be easy for Canelo......
Everyone Heredia trains like Macki Shilstone comes in excellent condition for fights. Chavez has an iron chin and I discount Fonfara fight because he had no business in there with a guy that big and powerful. Nacho is focusing on defense so I suspect with that slight improvement and great conditioning Chavez although not as skilled as Canelo will give Canelo a really tough fight. I still have Canelo outpointing Chavez but Canelo fades later in fights but however with Canelo having extra weight maybe he wont. It's going to be very entertaining.
This is a $100 million fight Hearn...............
02 Arena holds 70-80K people at $500 avg ticket is $40 mil. You take into account 1 mil PPV buys at $60 and you're at $100 mil easy so let's stop pretending like even the average joe can't do the math. Suppose your cost is $20 million for hotels, flights, promotion and other fighters. That leaves $80 mil. If you give AJ $40 mil that leaves another $40 mil and PPV get's there cut of 10% of 60 mil PPV so now we're down to $34 mil. You give Wilder $12 mil and you walk away with at least $22 mil. Yeah right.
Your eye went out because Spence hit you in your eye!!!!
Kell Brook fought well against Spence and got stopped end of story. Just give Spence his credit Brook and move on. If Brook and Spence fought again it would end probable even worst for Brook. Brook is still a good fighter just not at Spence level.
GGG vs Cancelo tough pick......
GGG in Jacobs fight showed me that's he's a really good boxer as well. GGG has better foot speed than Canelo however Canelo has better upper body movement and faster hands. GGG has a better jab and Canelo better defense. I give Canelo the edge but can see GGG winning. The reason I give Canelo the edge and could see him even knocking out GGG is that GGG can't fight on the inside but GGG may not have too because he has a really good jab that may keep Canelo at bay and even end up knocking out Canelo. Can't wait to see what happens!!!
Shane gases out these days in the later rounds. If he doesn't get Pac out early I see a brutal knock out late in the fight. That's how Pac gets you w/ an accumulation of punches which overwhelms you and beats you into submission. Although, Pac does have trouble w/ counter punchers and tends to avoid those types of fighters.
Froch is telling the truth....
GGG is not a top ten fighter. I think he's an intelligent fighter and has skills however he hasn't fought anyone to say he's definitely an elite fighter. GGG has fought primarily under size fighters. Even if he beats Canelo or Cotto they both are undersized MW. When Ward/Lara called him out he declined. So I wouldn't put him in the top ten till he beats some legit names that are actually his size.
Mayweather is right on this one fight someone first....
When you look at Mayweather resume which boast many future HOF and GGG has fought Danny Jacobs, Quillen, Lee, Korobov even Lara whose willing to move up....His stiffest competition has been undersized Curtis Stevenson, and Lemieux who doesn't have a lot of skill but can punch. GGG really wasn't willing to fight Froch after he realized how big he was so when Mayweather asking him to fight an opponent where the outcome isn't certain isn't unreasonable.
