Thurman got off to a fast start with a second-round knockdown, withstood a big seventh round from Lopez, and regained control to improve to 29-0. It was the WBA champion's first fight since March 4, 2017, before he was sidelined first by right elbow surgery and then an injured left hand. Click Here To Read More]
Porter vs Lopez let's make it happen.....
I think Porter vs Lopez would be an action fight for sure. Both guys never let up. I would definitely be a war for ever how long it last.
We obviously have a different definition of what athleticism means. To me it needs no explaining at all, Broner is athletic. Now his right IQ and strategy/tactics are another story....
Apparently it does need explaining. At the top of the apex lets take a fighter like Ali or Jones. Both guys can do things with their body that others cannot do. They can move faster, react faster...that is athletic ability. the greatest fighter to many Sugar Ray Robinson could knock you out punching while moving bacwards, that is athletic ability. A fighter like Archie Moore or Charlie Burley were very efficient. They knew angles, set traps, moved fluidly, and did not depend on being very athletic.
Pacman is athletic, he moves in straight lines but is fast enough not to get caught on those lines with a counter. So I don't know what is athletic about Broner. Fighters are considered athletes but also they are fighters. Some have athletic ability more than others. It does not mean they are better, or worse, necessarily.
Athletic doesn't equal Good
Broner also fights out of the pocket, does not move, prefering to try to counter, often off the back leg. That makes him flat footed. That and the major critiscism that he uses manuveors like the Philly shell the wrong way by not moving correctly, again, a lack of footwork.
I would even question any contention that Broner is an athletic fighter: he throws few punches, does not move well, if at all... Does not fight going bacwards... I mean he has fast hands and he makes wonderful noises when he occasionally llets a punch fly.
So what makes Broner athletic in any way what so ever?

Exactly. Instead we are being told... "Pac would kill Thurman!" I honestly think that there are posters that think they should not even have to fight lol. It should be obvious that Pac would look at thurman and Thurman would melt away, winding up a puddle at Pac's feet.
Lol
I just cannot believe the reaction people have after this man has not fought in two fughin years
Gents are literally playing favourites : you can’t compare two rounds in two different fights and not keep in mind what happened previous to that round
Willis in my eyes did the right thing in their
Although I believe Thurman should of held on and the onslaught would of been minimized
Just can’t believe the way people are reacting to a guy who just won his fight after a two year layoff
Imo Thurman won the fight outright , yes almost got laid out ( not sure about his holding capabilities ) but still got the fughin win
That’s it
Before dumping on the guy for winning , let’s see him out their again in a second fight and then maybe we can judge a little better

It used to be a champion was about finding a way to win. He didn't have to destroy, or hurt his opponent, only show he was better and keep going for what lies ahead.
Now its a popularity contest about who can look the best... "Oh my goodness!" Thurman did not kayo this guy!!!! hes done!!! pac would destroy him!!! Because against the flat footed Broner pac looked so good!
The irony is that a poster like Larry, who probably watched the fight carefully and probably can see little nuances about how Thurman actually is coming along...while many posters just look at the fight, while grabbing the cheetos, beer and pizza, listen to the commentators who have to drum thing up... and repeat what they have heard. Bottom line: Thurman has been consistent and found a way to win with no caveats. The middle divisions in boxing have the most people coming in. Even when the division is not as quality as other times, there is a lot of competition for top billing.

What’s amazing here is people don’t understand the levels to this boxing game. Thurman has skill power and a balanced attack but what I witnessed was a chin issue and just good basics good but not special. I would give Pacquiao a shot if not hurt, and pick Crawford or Spence by KO if he were to fight either. Thurman is more talk than bite for sure!
You consider getting caught flush with a left hook which is Lopez best and only legitimate punch a chin issue? He's been down once in his career. It was a well placed punch. There is levels. And one of them is being able to get hit and survive. Which he did. Anybody can be hurt in boxing. He fought bigger punchers than Lopez man. Garcia's left hook way more power. How come no knockdown? Porter physically bigger stronger than Lopez. You guys take one punch or one round and run with it.
Garcia and Porter fights were before injury. And it were a close decision fights. Last man Thurman destroyed was Collazo. So I don`t know what makes you think Thurman can DESTROY pacquiao, lol.
He's a bad matchup for Pacquiao. He's 10 years younger, he's stronger, and bigger. He's also better technically at this point in their careers. I don't think it would be close. Just like this Lopez fight wasnt close.
Thurman would stay on the outside box and land bombs. Also work the body. He's too good a fighter even after a layoff for a 40 year old undersized WW to beat. I doubt Pacquiao can be competitive with any of the top WWs.
OH YES!!!! We should declare the winners now, who needs the fight? It is obvious that Thurman went life and death and would be seriously injured, were he to fight up from LOpez! We could do like they do in college and declare the best fighter! I mean an actual match is such a pesky affair...with the judges and all... and guys could get hurt!
Thurman's corner should have told him at some point... "YOur not abusing this guy enough!!! the casuals will all say you are unworthy!!! Now go put em through the ropes, bite his ear off!!, do something to show you could compare to Pac man!!! heck...go find Broner in a bar after the fight and Knock him out!!!"
I have an idea let's put Thurman up against the most dangerous foe for him at the moment.. aha! 40 year old pac will do! The path of a legendary fighter in the making!
These pbc bum champs shouldn't call themselves champ. Who have they fought .they think just holding the belts hostage makes them great it's Embarrassing.
Lopez just exposed a pbc bum champ. Anyone with (real) champ level stamina and speed would have murdered Thurman tonight and closed the show.

Nice points but bad comparison, Broner is athletic has hell not flat like Lopez.......

I hope spence gets this punching bag lopez to showcase how better his skills are than thurman.. Welterweights out there lookin like middlweights these days lopez was huge. Really gave thurman trouble. Could have caused more if he would have kept goin to the body. Thurman is weak to body punches this wont go well for him against spence an crawford there body snatchers. Thurman reminds me of kovalev, his body just doesnt hold up to punches.

Absolutely right
I can’t believe people are brushing off his two year hiatus
Not like he decided not to fight , he had two injuries , one major ( hand )
Lopez last night came to fight , he probably smelled blood from a rusty returning fighter , and still couldn’t get him out
Wtf more donpeople want , give the guy a few fights and then tell me where he’s at

Here we go with the bum talk. Stop disrespecting the sport. You should excuse yourself from further commenting...go watch UFC. Extreme spectator here......
The only ones disrespecting the sports are these bum pbc champs refusing to fight each other. They think slinging that leather around their shoulder is all it takes. It's the utmost disrespect to the sport.
The most stagnant generation in history brought to you by pbc.
