Carl Froch was among the experts who spoke to Sky Sports regarding the departure of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and which fighter stood to take over as the pound for pound best in boxing.
Froch presented his opinion on the matter, stating he believes former opponent Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs) is without question the best of the best out there. Froch was beaten by Ward in the finals of the Super Six super middleweight tournament.
A Froch-Ward rematch was often discussed, but terms were never close as the two fighters were never able to agree on the location or the monetary split.
When discussing where middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) would fit in the equation, Froch says he wouldn't even rank Golovkin in the top ten of the pound for pound best in boxing.
Froch was in talks to face Golovkin earlier this year, but the Nottingham boxer felt uninspired by the fight and announced his retirement from the sport.
"I wouldn't even put Gennady Golovkin in my top 10 yet because I look at the resumes, so if you are looking for the pound-for-pound best, I have to go with Andre Ward. Because of the way he fights, I just can't see him being beaten and he won't be beaten throughout his career - so that makes him the best," Froch said.
While Froch tips Ward as being the best, he is not a fan of Ward's style and for several years he's been critical of the way Ward fights. He even feels Mayweather is a more offensive fight and gave a better in-ring effort than Ward when it came to pleasing the paying audience.
"I'll be honest and admit I am not a fan of Ward. I am a boxing fan and I like to be entertained. Even Floyd Mayweather gave it a go and was a little more offensive and there are plenty of fighters who are much better at that, but when it comes to pound-for-pound, I can't look past Ward," Froch said.
