After losing to Floyd (mind you that he accomplished something in the 2nd round that no other fighter ever did to Floyd) and having that long layoff from the Margarito win, I think Shane should take an inventory fight. In other words, Mora is a name opponent and a West coast fighter that may draw fans. Its the type of fight where Shane can discover if he has gas left in the tank. I don't see why he should take a Paul Williams fight after a tough loss at age 38. Anyways, Shane would make more money against Mora as it is since he'll get more of the pie than a Williams fight.
You may be right about being mislead but Richard Shaefer did the misleading and that is wrong. I feel this whole situation stinks and that MANY people bought the fight because of the discount. I'm gonna try to be a nuisance to a few people and see if it does any good
I'm gonna print out that coupon ad, send in my barcode from my 12 pack, and then send in the copy of the cable bill. My liquor store did not have any cards for the rebate. I think if you send in barcodes/receipts and the cable bill that they have little choice but to honor it. They'd have a HUGE issue on their hands if they didn't
I ordered an autographed pair of trunks yesterday to frame for my wall. I was always happy that he didn't come back and get hurt anymore, but I hoped that maybe I'd go to Canasota someday for the Hall and shake his hand and maybe take a picture with him and Micky. It's too bad that can't happen now
I just want to say a very sincere thank you to the posters of the links. It is giving me a night of entertainment and you are responsible for that. Thanks!
Why 4 instead of 3 though? What welterweight not named Cotto or Mosley is above Floyd? I don't see how Clottey or Berto's resume is better than Floyd's at 147. Also, we certainly cant count Williams there in the rankings. Just curious
Let's put it this way: Floyd can make any fight he wants. He took big name big payday fights that I didn't have a problem with. I had no issue with Oscar or Hatton for Floyd. I had a problem with Marquez. As for Manny, he moved up in weight to fight the same two guys so he should be applauded for both. The difference was that he went and got a Cotto while Floyd still wants the easiest money possible. Floyd has to fight a Mosley or Williams for me to acknowledge him as the best welterweight. He's the best p4P in the world but he has a TON to prove at 147 still
Just remember, chaos doesn't bother Manny. I think he needs some. However, I can't wait to see him fight an in his prime real welterweight. Who thought Manny would fight one before Floyd!
If he did kill himself, then I'd be more likely to blame his injuries sustained in the ring for messing with his head. Also, substances can bring out the worst in people and make them do things they normally wouldnt do. Either way, its just sad
I would probably about agree with you Al. I'd put him behind Mosley and Cotto at 147 for sure. I'd rank Floyd ahead of Clottey and Berto though so I guess I'd say I have Floyd as the number three welterweight in the world on merit. That said, I have him as the #1 p4p which may not be a minority opinion but certainly different than a lot of people so it's not like a disrespect Floyd's ability. But, Shane and Cotto are fighters and Floyd is a businessman and a boxer. He deserves a lot of credit but not so much for his welterweight resume
Judah was coming off a horrible loss to Baldomir so I think he was a questionable opponent. He was ok for Cotto because he was Cotto's first real fight at 147. As far as Shane goes, it had more to do with Shane being ducked by other guys at Welter until Margarito manned up
I saw it only once (not tonight) and I think I thought Spinks won although I guess you shouldn't be able to take a man's title on a bicycle. In hindsight I guess DK though Mayorga could dust anyone but thats some bad matchmaking to put a pure boxer in against Mayorga.
I have a hard time thinking Mayorga weighs 156 given that he needed to use an illegal diuretic to make 154 for the Oscar fight. Maybe a few more beers and some turkey will get him to 166. A Thanksgiving Day weigh in might add 20 pounds to vargas, haha. Just remember, Fernando doesn't want to fight anymore. You could tell in the 2nd Mosley fight. If he can't dust Mayorga quick then I think he goes into survival mode or he takes a big overhand right on the chin and gets counted out
No he's not ready to be on HBO PPV. He needs to be on Showtime or HBO and fight in America before he brings naything to the table financially for a $50 fight. I'd love to see it and maybe they could do it now on Top Rank PPV but he needs to get licensed and get more exposure first
Santiago wasn't in as good of shape as he claimed. His body looked soft and Tarver took advantage. Tarver still looks like he's way past his prime. Not a shot fighter but he's about one KO loss from that
He fought a bum. I think that he should have moved up from 175 a few years ago. He's a physical mismatch for guys at that weight but I think he'd look stronger at Cruiserweight. That said, there's little interest in that division and his chin may not have held up there then and certainly not now
Well Jim Gray famously grilled Pete Rose about gambling on baseball when Pete was honored before a game. He looked pretty bad and took a beating for that
He only took the Rubin fight when he thought Ward wouldn't go through with the HBO fight. Then ESPn refused to let him out of his FNF contract to fight Williams. Ward would be a good dangerous fight for both guys. Its hard for him to step up too much given that he lost in his only HBO appearance but if he beats Ward then he's back in the mix with pretty much anyone at 168. Allan Green is a bad man and will prove that once again with the colon issues now past
I do think he's gonna KO Jones (minority opinion) and I definitely think he'd outwork Lacy. Probably couldn't KO Lacy though. I still like Lacy's chin. I think HBO would never pay for Wright-Trinidad 2 but maybe a fight with Bernard could be made if his win over Jones was impressive enough. Plus I think him and Winky have become too good of friends to make a better fight
Since Oscar bought it they probably aren't mentioning it by name so as to seem objective. If both of those fights were fought and Ring was discussed a lot it would have seemed like Oscar was the reason why to some. Thats my guess. Plus the Ring has had some shaky rankings lately so I don't know if I quite buy the Bible argument
They may not mention it all the time but its the only title they mention. They never mention the decrepit organizations like Showtime does so they are good by me
