Devious - You got the wrong guy. I could give a shit about Mayweather. Sucker punching a fat guy and then running off in some staged wrestling event ain't nothing I would be proud of. My whole point was about how well Forbes boxed. Period.
muppetman - until you can generate your own comment, you deserve no comment. Geez, talk about a ball licker.
No, douche bag - I'm talking about you. I'm implying you are a horse dick for making stupid ass comments that aren't related to the post. So, just to clarify, when I was talking about Oscar and Forbes, that meant Oscar and Forbes, not Mayweather. When I was talking about you being a fake, soft ass punk, that meant you, not Calzaghe. And t-97, you can't concur to shit until you can fucking spell it. If you want to try and bust my chops, at least stay on topic and actually say something.
I'm not hating on Oscar at all. I just think people get out of hand with their praise, to the point of not being objective at all. Oscar looked good-in shape, good timing, good speed, etc. etc. BUT Forbes looked good too. Thats all. And if Forbes is as much of a scrub as some of these taints on here are saying, then it should have been a slaughter. It wasn't. It was a clean points win, but to hear the HBO sniffers tell it, Oscar could have turned Forbes into salt with little more than a steely gaze.
I agree, it didn't have the overall atmosphere I thought it would or should have. But I think that's poor promoting / venue management more so than anything else. I don't think the entrances have changed too much, and I for one appreciate less fluff and WWF type bullshit. I threw up in my mouth when Spinks did the ring walk last year with his rap video entourage, like they were more interested in getting on MTV than with fighting. But maybe that's the way of the future. We'll have to ask Floyd about his transition to WWE / acting. Oh, and while I'm bitching, I hate seeing fighters with websites markered across their backs. It's so whore-ish it's almost humiliating.
Joe won the fight for the judges, but didn't beat Hopkins. Based on the hoopla and trash talking, both men promised to dominate the other, but neither did. It's a win, but IMHO, if it's not a convincing / undisputed win, you should be pretty humble about it. Although I feel Calzaghe won the fight, it was close enough to where I understand some seeing it the other way. But with that said, Hopkins can't bitch because he didn't work to make it convincing for himself either.
If Hopkins wouldn't have gassed out and resorted to cheap theatrics to buy time and catch his breath, he might have done just enough to tilt the decision in his favor. Plenty of arguments could be made for Hopkins, because it was close, but for him-or anyone else-to say it was some kind of "schooling" or shut out is complete donkey shit.
Why Floyd won't face Cotto. Two reasons;
1) He'll get beat.
2) He's too busy with his acting/wrestling career. Hell, he might even be on to recording an album now.
IF they DO end up fighting, it won't be for years when they're trying to stage the inevitable "I should be retired but I can't seem to leave" PPV event.
by David P. Greisman - The greatest of expectations can’t always match up with the greatest of expectorations.
Kelly Pavlik knocked Jermain Taylor out in September. Emphatically. Taylor was still slumped in the blue corner when he came to. Twenty minutes earlier he had sent Pavlik careening around the ring, knocking him down and landing a total of 35 unanswered punches. But he failed to finish the task at hand, and this was the price he paid.
“I got knocked out?” he asked. Taylor awoke to an unforgiving reality. He was no longer the middleweight champion. Taylor nodded.
He’d have much more to say four months later.
“I want to beat the guy who beat me,” Taylor said in the days leading up to this past Saturday’s rematch with Pavlik. “This time when I get him in trouble I will finish him off. He won’t get back up.”
Tough words for a tough challenge. Once bitten by Pavlik’s knockout power, Taylor wasn’t shy about spitting venom in his opponent’s direction.
“It’s all about going out there and just making Kelly look like nothing,” Taylor said. “I was beating him on just half-ass stuff, so imagine what’s going to happen this fight.”
Imagine. A sequel to one of last year’s most dramatic slugfests. Taylor was knocked out. His championship was gone. And while this bout was a non-title affair contested at a catchweight of 166 pounds, the native of Little Rock, Ark., was returning to reclaim everything else he believed was rightfully his. It was either brave, foolish or both, and yet few minded as long as it meant a second helping of bashed pugilists. details]
If all you want to see is someone getting knocked out, go watch WWF. The sport is about so much more than that. Both men trained hard, worked hard, and boxed well. It was a great example of what boxing needs more of. Both should be extremely proud of their performance.
Joe won the fight on points. He worked harder, was more aggressive and deserved to win. But it wasn't as decisive as people are trying to make it out to be. Hopkins dropped him right out of the gates. After that, Joe did the work and should be pleased with the win. Neither man really punished the other though. I don't think he'll fare as well against Pavlik or Roy Jr. though. He should acknowledge that and retire or be ready to take his first loss back to Wales. Pavlik is too strong...if Hop dropped him with the short right hand, Pavilk will put him to sleep. And Roy is too good of a counter puncher. Joe leaves himself way open during his points-accumulating flurries. Jr will make him pay for that.
No doubt Jr. has been on the backside of his career for awhile now, but he's still fast and has much better body movement than Calzaghe. BHop's movement gave Joe fits until he started to slow down and stay in the ropes to wrestle. Calzaghe seems overly-dependent on fighting in his own rythm to be effective, and I bet Jr's movement would disrupt that. With Joe chasing him around frustrated, I think Jr would find the openings to stab those body shots and uppercuts that would have won Hopkins the fight if he'd of looked for them.
