i think if you're gonna be on hbo/showtime you should be in tough fights. premium channels aren't the place to build a fighter up. maybe it's just me, but i don't really want fighters to root for, i want good fights. let people be a fan of the sport as a whole. the best way to do that is to put on competitive match-ups. i think it helps the sport when you don't know who's gonna win before-hand.
once these fighters get on hbo they only want big money fights and fight 2-3 times a year. if you ain't ready for the big league, do the club circuit and get your experience until you learn your craft. do ESPN or solo boxeo cards in your home area to build a fan-base. no need to have guys who may or may not be something great or a superstar having gimme fights on hbo when there's guys who deserve to be on there and have earned it.
personally, i dont think there would be anything wrong with mitchell vs adamek/chambers winner if he's gonna be shown on hbo from here on out.
while the fight was ugly/awkward/sloppy at times, both guys were still letting their hands go in the clinches. both guys were responsible and rios didn't help the situation by smothering himself on the inside. he made no adjustment to take a short step back to throw the uppercut and threw his left hook with no variations right at abril's right arm
well, now you guys know why we get these mismatches and trash ppv cards where the A-side fighter gets a gimme fight. it's what the "fans" want. bring on urbano antillon II.
Sold or given away? Because they were giving them away like they were covered in aids for their last fight.
hopkins vs dawson isn't a west coast fight. no idea why they decided to have that fight in cali the first time around. i'm sure they only gave away SOME of them this time.
it would make no difference other than ruining the suspense in a close fight, or in a not-so-close fight where the guy winning is getting the shaft. imagine being in a fight knowing you're getting robbed while you're still in there trying to execute a gameplan? and as others said previously, guys coasting/corners throwing in the towel.
if they can't change decisions at the end of a fight, no way it's happening during the fight. i personally turn the volume down on fights with open scoring. i think the official scorecards should be shown at the end of the fight presenting a graphic with all of the rounds and how the judges scored each round.
Uhhhh, let's be honest: If Fedchenko somehow managed to outbox JMM, he would've been robbed too.
You go for the KO like Orlando Salido or you risk being robbed. It's been part of the sport since the beginning of time.
why should only 1 of the fighters be allowed to win by decision?
this robberies are ok as long as it's in favor of the A-side fighter mentality that alot of you have on here is ****ing retarded.
so if salido didn't knock lopez out and lopez won the decision that would have been ok with you even though salido was kicking the dogsh;t out of lopez??
do you have to say stuff like that so you don't look like a hypocrite since your boy chavez has had gift decisions?
maybe only fighters with 75% or higher KO ratios should be shown on tv or even licensed period.
maybe they should just get rid of rounds altogether and fight until someone can't continue
i think it would do better ratings if fights weren't restricted to friday and saturday NIGHTS. it doesn't help the situation that if you want to see a good fight you have to make a vacation out of it. people go to basketball/baseball/hockey games on random weeknights, what would be the difference with going to see some boxing? they just need to take the show on the road and bring it to the people instead of making the people come to vegas etc.
i don't really see the point in moving up to 140 to take a gimme fight against another lightweight. if mensah had any kind of power he probably would have stopped katsidis last night.
i would rather see him in with a guy like kendall holt or ali funeka. alvarado would be a pretty decent fight. provodnikov is trash though, he's a so-so ESPN guy. if rios is gonna be on hbo/ppv he better start fighting some opponents that are worthy of being on those airwaves. i would just prefer not seeing him fight someone with a style tailor-made for him so he can look good. let him earn the hype a lot of you guys give him.
it's a tough fight to call because you just dont know when hopkins is finally gonna get TOO old. i think it will be a close fight and controversial again in some shape or form.
dawson always seems to lose focus at time during his fights lately. like he just kinda mails it in at times. and you don't want that against hop. he's been so inactive over the last few years too. is it possible that dawson's prime has already come and gone? he wasn't all that impressive in the pascal or diaconu fights.
people i know in real life all thought hopkins was winning that round and a half. i expect dawson to be more aggressive in the rematch, something that i think will be to hop's advantage. he's mad bro!
that's a tough question. marquez could easily be 59-1 while trinidad should probably have another loss on his record (de la hoya). i think skill-wise and p4p marquez is the better fighter while trinidad's resume is more impressive. between taking the 0's of guys like campas, carr, reid, vargas, and de la hoya...he had good wins over a lot of real solid guys.
as of now they're both 3-division champions, it might depend on how the rest of marquez' career plays out. if marquez doesn't accomplish much more, down the road trinidad may be remembered as the greater fighter just because of all those great knockouts and solid guys he beat.
looking at marquez' record, it's hard to say which win is even his best. an old barrera? old casamayor? smoke gainer? don't get me wrong, i'm a huge marquez fan. i just don't think any of his wins are as good as prime de la hoya and vargas.
on the other hand, marquez has never been dominated the way trinidad was against hopkins and wright. i know mayweather dominated marquez but i thought that fight was more competitive than the hopkins/wright fights, especially considering the jump in weight.
it's a really tough call for me and i'm undecided on this.
i will say this though: i would be more likely to re-watch marquez fights than trinidad's. i just prefer his style more. he's a more versatile fighter. with better management and some of those losses going his way, marquez could have had an epic career
wladimir looks the same as he always has. there was someone the other night saying he's a completely different fighter now. wladimir is still the same ESPN-level fighter i've always known him to be.
any links for tonight fight
can i get a link?
c'mon dudes...theres like 3 sites (at least) that have ALL of the links and they get updated EVERY day/week.
i'm always surprised by the punch stats for any fight on hbo. i dont think they're legit and always favor the A-side/hometown fighter. i have a hard time believing that mayweather threw almost 200 punches more
rios' best win is anthony peterson. i wouldn't even pick rios in a rematch. the dude is fun to watch but i can't believe the hype he gets. people on here seriously thought he was gonna be a p4p fighter? get real. marquez beats the ever-loving dog**** out of this guy.
lol @ handing out detentions. i used to hate malignaggi back in the day but he usually gives fun interviews and leaves it all in the ring. hard not to root for him. hope he pulls it off
i cant believe the way people support and defend these ppv undercards. these are all showcase fights. the guy arce is fighting has never even had a fight scheduled for more than 8 rounds.
